I thought rods had already been very thoroughly explained by a number of video/optics specialists. They're simply as insects captured by digital cameras.

There is plenty to back this up by Googling "rods explained".

If you want the counter argument, then Google "rods are real". (But they are not, as explained by camera-optics experts.)

This sums it up nicely.
