Default When the Comedic Make Us Think

Comedians can be an unexpected source of wisdom. Though perhaps it should not be so unexpected; they spend a lot of their time observing the world around them.

Here is Louis C.K. on the modern human condition, and the value of being sad and lonely. Presented somewhat crudely (have to keep it light on these types of shows), there is nonetheless a poignant message he conveys.

Please feel free to share your own favorite examples of comedic wisdom.
Mercy, forgiveness, and compassion are the most virtuous forms of love
Let your heart not be hardened by injustice and tribulation

Here is Jim Carrey's account of a spiritual experience he had, which sounds to me like it could have been an interaction with what many of us here have termed 'The Source':

Mercy, forgiveness, and compassion are the most virtuous forms of love
Let your heart not be hardened by injustice and tribulation

In war troops come up with a term for the enemy which makes them non human.
In texting, without the feedback Louie is talking about the other people posting, and making comments
can become non human ,and open season for those parts of ourself that are not willing to feel what we are feeling.

Then WE risk becoming non human.

Like music and music therapy, comedy provides a subtle (or not so subtle) avenue for introspection ... An art that can amuse, incite, or inspire us.
On the other hand, comedic entertainment can perpetuate status quo.

Thanks for this thread ... good food for thought (that tickles as it goes down)!

I really liked that clip when I saw it, Louis is really funny and thoughtful. Here is the late Bill Hicks.

George was indeed a very funny man. Here he is laying some tough love upon the concept of 'The American Dream':

Some great ideas here, and Bill Hicks adds the other aspect that I think is important--- empathy and compassion are important, but cooperation is vital for the next step. When we met others, even others whom we feel are 'different', we find that they are not so different after all if we work with them and get to know tham. Mostly they want the same things we do, sometimes they choose horrible ways to get them, sometimes they don't. It is probably true to say that together we will achieve more than just one person's dream, and cooperation will help achieve it.

Jim Carey's ideas are interesting- but the next step he takes will show if he has learned anything by realising that everything is connected, that we all really do belong, but we just need to find out where!

Both of these comedians are already posted. A couple of my favorites: Bill Hicks & George Carlin.

As I like to call him "The Supreme Empirical Sardonicus " Mr Louis CK................... The food chain ( some of his more mild and accessible work), he always manages to get things in perspective for me when I feel down and out, I love how he just jumps on a train of thought and takes it for a ride.......all the way ( could be controversial and shocking to some people), imo this guy is truly enlightened ( because NO SUBJECT is sacred and everything is open for intellectual exploration for better or for worse) and a real overall nice guy, just watch a couple of his interviews and you will know exactly what I mean.

And Dave Chapelle inside the actors studio, GREAT INTERVIEW, very nice, loving, intelligent and personable specimen of the human kind.

    Enjoy.

Say what you will about him, but I find Joe Rogan to be a pretty creative (and funny) guy. The point he makes in the video below might sound hard to swallow, and not altogether attractive, but it is never the less difficult to refute when thinking and observing objectively.
