Default US Government shutdown, Tuesday Oct 1, 2013

Listening now to NBC Live Stream at Government Shutdown Imminent; "Obamacare-Delay" Continuing Resolution Vote - Live Webcast (ZeroHedge), and reading the following New York Times article that was posted within the hour: U.S. Shutdown Nears as House Pushes Delay in Health Law (NY Times), it seems likely that the US government will shutdown at the end of this month, Sept 2013, in two days.
U.S. Shutdown Nears as House Pushes Delay in Health Law

By JONATHAN WEISMAN and JEREMY W. PETERS
    Published: September 28, 2013

WASHINGTON — The federal government on Saturday barreled toward its first shutdown in 17 years after House Republicans, choosing a hard line, demanded a one-year delay of President Obama’s health care law and the repeal of a tax to pay for the law before approving any funds to keep the government running.

Republicans emerged from a closed-door meeting Saturday unified and confident that they had the votes to delay the health care law and eliminate a tax on medical devices that partly pays for it. But before the House had even voted, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, declared the House bill dead. Senate Democrats are planning to table the Republican measures when they convene on Monday, leaving it up to the House to pass a stand-alone spending bill free of any measures that undermine the health care law.

The House’s action all but assured that large parts of the government would be shuttered as of 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday. More than 800,000 federal workers deemed nonessential faced furloughs; millions more could be working without paychecks.

A separate House Republican bill would also ensure that military personnel continued to be paid in the event of a government shutdown, an acknowledgment that a shutdown was likely. The health law delay and the troop financing bill were set for House passage Saturday.

This will affect me directly as I work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

I'm wondering what is going on in the minds of all factions of the government. I wonder if the Elite want this government shutdown to happen? It definitely coincides with the October 1st warning about FEMA camps and the possible events to come.

The Elite definitely want their precious ObamaCare (or as David Icke would say "ObomberCare") to go into effect as it's part of their plan to hit the American people hard...so I think that it will stay shutdown if Congress doesn't fund ObamaCare.

Even though this is going to affect me, I commend Congress for standing up to these genetic bullies and liars. Methinks Congress is becoming more and more awake and aware.

I'll be effected as well ... my sole source of income is in the form of various US Government benefit checks.

It would be more than fine by me if they cut all that off, so long as they actually got some clues and did some really serious house cleaning in Washington, DC. However, pessimist that I am, I figure that this "shutdown" is just another charade,to get the US population more desperate.

House Republicans on Sunday pushed through an amended spending plan that would delay Obamacare for a year and wipe out its tax on medical devices, increasing the chances of a government shutdown in less than 48 hours because Senate Democrats reject the move and the White House said President Barack Obama would veto such a measure.

The bill now goes back to the Senate, which had already stripped a provision from the bill that defunded Obama's signature health care law before it went back to the Republican-controlled House.

The Senate is not expected to reconvene until Monday afternoon, leaving little time for the two chambers to work out their differences and continue to keep the government running.

Me, too. I checked my account. The state retirement pension isn't deposited. Technically, they've still got one more day, well actually it's today on the east coast.

The distance from one to the other is not really knowable by us peons. This is not like one's personal finances, where one could, for example, estimate how long it would take from losing one's job before one could not pay the rent check. Rather this is all Kabuchi Theater, and we are not shown the script ahead of time (hints, misdirections, hype, ... but not the honest to goodness real script.)

My guess, which is worth every penny you paid for it, is that US Government default on its Treasury Debt is about two years out. Other equally plausible guesses put it a few months out, or never.

And my two cents, when Treasury debt is funded by creating more treasury debt, it's like making your credit card payment using your credit card... it eventually becomes untenable. When you then take more credit/debt and use it to buy toxic crap that has no mark to market or intrinsic value, because it is leveraged derivatives, then it only takes a 2% move in interest rates to cause you to be unable to keep the ponzi scheme going and kick the can down the road.

So, more velocity is required to keep ahead of the tsunami, and shutting down and turning off the spigot sends a cascade into the flow and reverses the polarity, which cannot easily be undone. The reverse velocity of implosion is much quicker, shall we say cascading in ever accelerating waves.

This may be an engineered outcome designed to do just that. Hope all ya'll are ready.(to use a Texas colloquialism)

until the working class has money in their pockets to spend , all areas of the economy will continue to suffer , wealthy folks invest , everyone else spends ... the price of things go up and the household income remains the same, that road only leads to one place ... It wouldn't bother me if the government is shut down , they can't make laws that take our freedoms if they are not at work ...

Those guys don't go home. They're not paid by the government.

What happened under Clinton in 1996? What makes this event break new ground compared to back then?

There will be no government shutdown I guarantee it. They will agree on some bs plan last minute. They always do.

Except when they don't...Congress needs more transformational leaders.

That's the first thing that came to my mind too. But, this time round, I'm not so sure about that.
