    Default The Kitchen Medicine Book

    Hi, Folks -

I once wrote a book - which (believe it or not) I forgot about. This was back in 2005, in pre-Camelot days. I researched and wrote it for a good friend, Kelly Neff, and it has her name on it as she is a herbalist.

But the book was mostly my own compilation, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed putting it together. It took me maybe 4-6 weeks full-time. Kelly was there throughout, working on a book of her own, and added a ton of helpful comments plus one or two sections written by herself.

It was never published: all Kelly really wanted was that it should be made available for all. So here it is. Do spread it far and wide if you think it's valuable and/or interesting.

    Love to all, Bill

Honey is sometimes used (quietly!) as a last-ditch antiseptic for seriously infected wounds in intensive care wards. Bacteria cannot live in it.

    Here's a BBC article:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/3787867.stm

    Harnessing honey's healing power
    By Angie Knox

Honey has been known for its healing properties for thousands of years - the Ancient Greeks used it, and so have many other peoples through the ages.

Even up to the second world war, honey was being used for its antibacterial properties in treating wounds.

Viking, you may be killing the beneficial properties of the honey by heating it up in your tea. Raw, unrefind, UNHEATED honey is the real healer. Go ahead and use it to sweeten, but also eat some raw to obtain the most benefit.

We always rub raw honey in minor cuts and abrasions. They heal much, much quicker and neater!

Oops, forgot to thank you Bill. Thanks!

    Thank you for the book.

My first thought is that the worlds bee population is vanishing fast. Have you got any thoughts or upcoming interview ideas on this issue?

GMO is currently getting blamed for it but what do you think might be going on?

    Minor update:

I was in touch with Kelly about this today after she'd received a bunch of queries about whether I really DID write the book. She wrote:
I think it's a GREAT idea to post it on the forum - it is presently in bits on Associated Content (which I discovered in a roundabout way).

I like what you've said. You can add from me that 'I believe that such things should be in the public domain because they are the result of millions of years of folk wisdom, and thus belong to all peoples.'

After discussing this book with some friendly kitchen witches, today...

Honey is also useful on acne and skin abscesses

It was suggested to keep two separate containers... one for eating and one for wounds etc.
