Goodmorning Transiten. Aquaponics is an absolutely great idea to grow crops and fish with some very low energy consumption. As Rocky said here, with these type of technologies, which are quite simple to install, planet earth will be able to grow to 50 billion people. Fish, Fruits, Grains, Vegetables... all can be grown indoors. There are some other threads on this subject (search for aquaponics, hydroponics).

I had watercress beds - they didn't mention the cabbage white butterfly- they left me with a few stalks and a lot of caterpillar poo.

I have an aquaponics bed. It requires power to keep the pumps moving the water along, but I love the system. Here is a photo that I took. It still looks about that way out there. Still producing greens. Bugs are still a problem and you can't insecticide them because of the fish (and you). So as with all organic gardens you have to spend a little time out there with them. The fish are a different story. Tilapia is a choice for hot weather and blue gill for cooler weather. I choose a different method.... Quackaponics. Duck!!!

Did i misspell the word? No wonder since i'm a musiscian! Would be nice with some music also though: i've heard of sound being used to make veggies and trees grow better also and they prefer classical music before rock...

More Händel, Bach, Vivaldi, Purcell... https://youtube.com/watch?v=Kuw8Y...=RD7U8YVsW9I8U

And skippy, there was this ad with The Ark and the animals as i clicked on the vid, but here it's gone...great sync to me anyway...

It's quite easy to change the 230V waterpump with a solar panel powered 12V pump..

Did anyone listen to Alec Deacons presentation in the link? How did you guys go about building your Aquaponic? Alec says his way of doing it is much easier than anything presented so far and extremely cheap, you also get 1 year support along with books and the video explaining step by step how to build it for only 67$ and 190$ for the material for the construction.
