    Default Look who's paranoid now!

... where reality goes beyond 1984 fiction...

    Here is the set up:

Dieudonné M'bala M'bala and the Quenellization of France
    Sott Editors Sott.net Sat, 04 Jan 2014 08:43 CST

    Dieudonné M'bala M'bala

The government of France has declared all-out war against Dieudonné M'bala M'bala, a French comedian whose comedy sketches are performed at large, sold-out venues and remain popular with French audiences despite the fact that he has long since been banned from appearing on national television. The comedian stands accused of 'anti-semitism', particularly in relation to a gesture he makes in his comedy sketches, 'La Quenelle', which has become widely popular in France.

Many charges have been brought against the comedian in recent years - some were successful and resulted in fines, others were thrown out of court. What's different this time around is that the French state itself is going after Dieudonné. Up until recently, French Jewish organizations have pressed charges 'on behalf of French Jews', on the grounds that Dieudonné's public comments and comedy sketches broke France's strict 'hate crimes' laws forbidding expressions of 'anti-semitism'.

The French state's strategy to date of ignoring Dieudonné and minimizing his access to mass audiences apparently changed between Christmas and the New Year when top government officials, including President François Hollande, publicly declared their intention to shut the comedian out of French public life altogether. The Interior Minister, Manuel Valls, declared he would "thoroughly examine all legal options that would allow a ban on Dieudonné's public gatherings, which no longer belong to the artistic domain, but rather amount to a public safety risk."

Despite being banned from mainstream media several years ago, Dieudonné's comedy material has since been widely shared via social media. Although the gesture that allegedly grossly offends French Jews has been part of the comedian's stand-up routines since 2005, it was only when the 'Quenelle' meme went viral last year - with thousands of members of the public submitting photographs of themselves making the gesture, often posing next to government ministers or other French VIPs - that the French government decided to confront the joke head on, declaring it a 'Nazi salute in reverse' and launching a heavy PR campaign at home and abroad to portray the gesture as yet another case of 'anti-semitism rearing its ugly head'.

Although the French government may succeed in passing off La Quenelle as 'a Nazi salute in reverse' to foreign audiences, back in France it's common knowledge that it is in fact an anti-establishment gesture, a fact which means their efforts to further isolate Dieudonné may completely backfire. Additionally, by attacking him, the French government is proving true much, if not all, of what Dieudonné has worked into his comedy routines over the years. Here Dieudonné mocks former U.S. president George 'Dubya' Bush and in the process introduces a young French audience to ideas and insights they never hear on TV.

You probably don't need to understand French to get the gist of what he's saying.

    What is 'La Quenelle'?

© Unknown This scale helps measure the intensity of the 'quenelle' to be dished out. Here Dieudonné is demonstrating the 'shoulder quenelle', a 3-foot long special.

'Quenelle' is in fact a traditional meat pie dish served up in the region around Lyon. Playing on its rolled-up sausage shape, Dieudonné punctuates his comedic sketches by pointing to a certain length of his outstretched arm to denote the size of the quenelle he thinks whichever public figure he is mocking deserves to have shoved 'where the sun don't shine'. And because he invariably makes this gesture at the tail-end of a lengthy monologue in which he has skilfully (and hilariously) exposed the public figure's lies, inconsistencies, or just plain ignorance, Dieudonné generally gives full marks to his subject by pointing all the way to the top of his arm - the message being that said public figure has spouted so much nonsense that he deserves having a generous portion of quenelle 'shoved up his backside'!

As this otherwise entertaining scandal progresses, and as members of the French government become ever more hysterical and hyperbolic in their threats to crack down on what little comedic relief is to be had in this depressed economic climate, a horrifying prospect looms on the horizon: by deliberately misinterpreting and exploiting a humorous, yet sincere, popular message to the French (and global) ruling elite that simply declares 'We're fed up with your lies!', the French government is pitching its Jewish population (Europe's largest) against the rest of the population, a move that runs the risk of producing real anti-Jewish sentiment.

Here is a selection of photos showing people doing 'La Quenelle', followed by the 'Quenelle anthem' and an exclusive translation of same.

Spontaneous mass outbreaks of la quenelle have been reported throughout France.

Elite French military troops take a break from training to do la quenelle.

The song La Quenelle (adapted from Charles Aznavour's La Bohême) explains what the joke is actually about:

    Translation:
    I speak of a time
All those 20 years of age
    Can only know
    Since at such age
    One's arm swiftly unholsts
    To get one's hand
    Close to one's shoulder
    And with a funny look
    Mocking the elites
And the more famous they are
    The more they deserve it
The more the arms are outstretched

    The quenelle, the quenelle
    Which means
    'Shove it up your ass!'
    The quenelle, the quenelle
All your lies are no longer wanted

    In the neighboring cafés
    As in distant countries
    Everyone finds his glory
    The quenelle anywhere
    Makes many happy
    Each one writes history
    Through a funny gesture
    Inconvenient at the apex
    And sows in the web
    A wind of freedom
    Of national insolence
And a desire to stick it to them

    The quenelle, the quenelle
    Which means
    We no longer believe!
    The quenelle, the quenelle
Shove your claptrap up your hole!

    And scribblers
    Trying to explain it
    Spend sleepless nights
    Through their unhealthy minds
    They see us as assassins
    As Nazi enthusiasts
    Reversing nonchalantly
    The Nazi salute
    And yelling blasphemy
    Seeing our delighted grins
    They do it anyway
    Sliding it up at length...

    The quenelle, the quenelle
    Which means
    'We do not care!'
    The quenelle, the quenelle
We're no longer afraid to dare!

France's 'quenelle' crackdown begins: Nine teenagers threatened with fine of 45,000 euros for 'insulting the President of the Republic'

    laRep.fr Tue, 07 Jan 2014 05:31 CST

    Translated by SOTT.net
An investigation will be opened by Florent Boura, the local state prosecutor who has seen the video footage of the offending scene. Jean-Pierre Door, the local mayor, hopes for strict sanctions

Jean-Pierre Door, the (UMP party) deputy mayor of Montargis in the Loiret department in north-central France, discovered a horrific video of youths committing a 'quenelle' * in front of his town hall yesterday morning. He was absolutely disgusted.

Posted on Youtube on December 29th, it depicts nine youths openly, on the steps of the city hall, before showing their support for the humorist Dieudonné, making the gesture of 'la quenelle' repeatedly, while their spokesman violently attacks the great President of the Republic. All the while, in the background, "Le Chant des Partisans" plays.

A fine of 45,000 euros for insulting the President of the Republic

Jean-Pierre Door sent the video to the police so that they can begin their investigations. An investigation will also be opened by Florent Boura, the state prosecutor of Montargis. He believes that the video contains objectionable features, including an insult to the President of the Republic. The penalty is a fine of € 45,000. The prosecutor also mentioned incitement to racial hatred: "The fact that this crime was performed in the city of Montargis is not an aggravating factor but for a different analysis."

    Employment-welfare contract terminated

Jean-Pierre Door recognized one of the youths in the video; the youth has a contract with the local employment-welfare service. Door said he will make an example of him: "I will ask for his contract to be terminated. We can not reach out to help them and be slapped in return. It boggles the mind, the ingratitude [of these punks]."

The last bloody row was over an elite telling them to eat cake. I'd think long and hard about freedom of speech, when it "isn't the NAZI salute" but a paranoid look at body language they don't or won't understand. It's anti-establishment and peaceful rebellion by non-violence. How can a movement of the body, be made illegal. It's not the middle finger salute?

I think the paranoia is just an excuse to continue to pull power moves financially, because they can. It's like someone telling you not to scream outside in your own yard. They have no right, unless it disturbs the peace, and if they are in a rural off the road place, it's no one's business. Anyway, they don't say anything when display nooses in America on their dashboards, or swastika or confederate flags, because it's freedom of speech. LOL, like the Baphomet statue, it's not against the law, but a challenge to the same established rule makers, to tell us again, why it's wrong, then make the laws livable to fix it for all, not just the few.

You can name French people with anything but less violent, when it comes intolerable management by elites. I just want to add my friendly reminding " French revolution" it ended with pretty violent for elites.
If there is an another known upraising event with that scale please enlighten me.

Seems like the divide and conquer mentality won't work here, trying to distort this gesture into an anti-semitic expression in order to deflect from it's truly being an expression of complete disgust regarding the deep corruption and greed of elites. To me France has always been a good example of the people coming out and rioting to express their refusal to accept corrupt laws where maybe the government pays more attention. Here in the U.S. it seems to have less of an effect or maybe they want us to feel this way. I think many, many people in the West are completely fed up. I hope polarizing the situation backfires with good results.

"You can't prevent people to meet together"... says the guy who just sent a letter to every Prefect in France ordering them not to allow Dieudonne's shows to go ahead in their cities. And what a paranoid mind he has! Notice that the interviewers were asking about the inherent contradiction of transparency in democratic societies vs secret meetings of VIPs... yet it was Valls who 'answered' with the suggestion that anyone asking these "dangerous questions" thinks neither the holocaust nor 9/11 actually happened! Wow, if he can produce such a torrent of paramoralistic claptrap in a few minutes, no wonder he can declare that a funny anti-establishment gesture popularized by a comedian is 'an inverted Nazi salute'.

This should be sent to Dieudonné to use it when in court as where he took it to pass a message about the naked king. lol

Alain Soral is quite interesting in his discourse, his life is in jeopardy, he has been attacked 5 times lately by organised groups, just for his thinking.

Nothing of what they say is anti jewish, as he is being accused of by the government, it is mostly anti establishment, anti-globalists and anti-elites.

No, they are not. However this is the naked king story and French even have little rythmic song with it, it is very well known. And he makes the gesture Dieudonné makes in France. As being sued for such a thing is soooooo ridiculous, bringing this video would remain in the same framework. You do not fight stupidity with logic, it won't be understood. You fight it with its equivalent, but in a wise humourous manner. I think.

There is really a cultural context here and a different kind of humour, through the ridiculous.

Amer Zo, envoies ceci à Dieudonné il saura s'en servir. Send this to Dieudonné, he will know how to use it. Making the judges and pursuants yet more laudable and more stupid looking.

And your cousins from the other side of the Atlantic, Amer Zo, could start putting it on their Facebook, as well as the American. Lets help the French!!

    So, why the paranoia?

Well, there is a precedent that ended up threatening the power grab of 'em "they" guys... a rogue nation and ensuing rogue governement is a definite NO-NO for 'em "they" guys...

    ... here it is:

    It’s the Story of a Politician…

Some politicians seem honest, but after they shake your hand, you’d better count your fingers.”

Riding the wave of this fame, in 1980 Coluche announced he would be a candidate for the French Presidential election of 1981. Armed with slogans like “Coluche, the only candidate with no reason to lie,” or “Bleu, Blanc, Merde” (in reference to Bleu, Blanc, Rouge, the colors of the French flag) his bid may have begun as a joke but a large number of people took it very seriously. He gained support of several intellectuals and when his popularity reached 16 per cent in one poll, the powers that be decided it was no laughing matter. Coluche began receiving death threats, he was followed, his phone was tapped, but it was only when his friend and theater director René Gorlin was assassinated with two bullets in the back of the neck that Coluche withdrew from the election because, as he put it, “It’s starting to be a pain in the ass.”

if his comedy is that good and translates well (I'd guess it doesn't since political comedy is usually very situation based & those out side france would have a hard time grasping it, plus it references a food dish that isn't probably made far out side of France) it would be great to see this get wider spread.

This is a very good example of what I like to call "Infotainment" this is what entertainment is suppose to be used for, similar to Bill Hicks and George Carlton (if a bit more shallow, at least from what I understand).
