It seems the movies listed so far have strayed somewhat from the thread title, so please let me offer this marvelous piece, Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring. Simply a wonderful story and film. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks so much. I will watch it.
A couple of movies kind of maybe more somewhat like and related to the thread title?

    Valley of Flowers

    "Valley of Flowers (2007)"
    aka La Vallée des fleurs

a tale of passion, romance and Reincarnation, set in the Himalayas, and spans two centuries of time, from the early 19th Century to modern times and encompasses diverse geographical settings from the old Tarim Basin's Silk Road in the Himalayas to the modern day metropolis of Tokyo, interwoven with Himalayan and Buddhist Mythology and the mystic art of Tantra. The film has been inspired from Alexandra David-Néel's work "Magie d'amour et magic noire".

And more "realistic" but fantastic "Samsara (2001)"
Tashi is an extraordinary master of meditation but to properly renounce the world he would have to experience it first. Tashi leaves his order.

To go back to straying specifically from the thread title, I'll add Metropia, definitely on the "strange" end of things.

The premise is conspiracy related -- ultimate big brother type of thing but the movie itself is dark, a bit slow moving, and has little dialogue -- you have to get a lot from the visual contexts. It is an animation, but the style of animation is an art in itself, very unique and very interesting (from an artists perspective).

After watching it, one will want to replace their shampoo with something natural

Definitely check out the HD trailer here:

Out of the zone of Sci Fi (but in the zone of fantasy imagining a "real story") is "Agora".

It was mentioned in a thread somewhere lately on PA. It is a tragedy directed by Alejandro Amenabar "drawn to stories about the determination of the intellect to work in the real world". He also directed "The Others" and "Open Your Eyes".

    Roger Ebert said:
Quote This is a movie about ideas, a drama based on the ancient war between science and superstition. At its center is a woman who in the fourth century A.D. was a scientist, mathematician, philosopher, astronomer and teacher, respected in Egypt, although women were not expected to be any of those things.http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/agora-2010

Dark City is also one where you have to watch closely and style is memorable.
It is not listed so far....many probably have seen it before but it is worth rewatching.

Thanks A.R. for suggesting Virtual Seduction.
I cheated and read a review. Virtual Seduction was compared to Strange Days, seen a long time ago, so adding it as I did like that movie.

These are definitely on the order of romantic love and art and WONDERFUL movies IMO. They are contrasted by Red and Blue also and the music.

Filmmaker and animator Nina Paley's, "Sita Sings the Blues (2008)". Paley's story and the Ramayana and a lovely score "a visually vibrant, dazzlingly imaginative triumph". Received 100% rotten tomatoes

The Red Shoes (1948). This is not Sci Fi but has "fantasy" elements. My question is "Who is the Director REALLY and what is he after REALLY?"
A gorgeous heroine is a talented ballerina. The Red Shoes is a magical ballet sequence.

Spoiler alert for those who haven't watched the "Quest For Love" movie that Delight posted.

    @Delight
I liked the "Quest For Love" movie that you posted. It reminded me of an interview that Bill and/or Kerry did where the interviewee (I can't remember who it was) talked about how the Greys helped his consciousness visit a parallel universe (sort of as a gift) where he had a different wife. In the movie I think it would have been better if the writers came up with a different kind of proof of Collin being from a parallel universe than through the lack of a scar, since it makes more sense to me for the consciousnesses to have been transferred than the entire bodies.

I was searching to see if the full "Strange Days" movie was online for free at a "legit" website, and didn't find that, but I did find another Sci-Fi movie with a romance interest that I just watched (If you go to the Youtube page, I would suggest going to full screen right away and not reading the summary or comments at first, so that you would be watching more from the perspective of most of the characters at the beginning, before more information is revealed) I often like to put a movie on as I go to bed, so I will be checking out some of the other movies that you and others posted, if I can find them online:

Edit: As I'm going through the posts, I'm noticing this is one of the first videos that was posted.

"Children of Men (2007)" is a compelling though dark story with a soundtrack that I really like.

In a dark 2027 where natural disaster, war and terrorism has created a dystopian world, Britain is an island holding onto civil order. 18 years ago celebrated the last birth of a human child.

    It's found here
    http://www.disclose.tv/action/viewvi...ildren_of_Men/

    "Silent Running (1972)"
I loved this movie when I first saw it. It predates many later Sci Fi film elements. "In a future where all flora is extinct on Earth, an astronaut is given orders to destroy the last of Earth's botany, kept in a greenhouse aboard a spacecraft.(IMDB)"

    I found it here:
    http://watch32.com/movies-online/silent-running-1502

    "Stalker (1979)"
Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky's (directed Solaris, another good film)
Stalker, an allegorical science fiction film. Three characters explore "the Zone", where normal laws of physics no longer apply as a result of an alien visitation. The Zone is proclaimed forbidden by the government. To enter the zone guarded by military, requires determination, faith and a "stalker".

    Strings! (2004)

I have to watch this one again. Its all string puppets, but an incredibly well done piece of art -- the puppets had to be used because their "format" is homogenized into the story.

Low res trailer ... all I could find.

    In the group of 'vampire-love-stories':

    Underworld

    and Underworld: Evolution

    I love both of them.

Those two can be considered a bit off-putting because of the blood-and-guts effects.
