Tress are one of infinitely wonderful entities in this reality. I converse with four great evergreen trees all within a few yards of each other in a small backyard regularly along with two other varieties.

How beautiful, and yes indeed. Conscious, they feel, and they speak their own language. I tend to ask permission before easing into a full hug. Some are busy, or simply prefer not to be disturbed. But some invite you over.

I've often found this to be true. In a world full of illusions it's all too easy to project onto others what stems from ourselves. It is also true, that in a world of all things being possible, some things are just as they appear to be.

It (sort of) reminds me of a quote that makes me smile, that I playfully put to myself in examining my own motivations here and there. I've seen it ascribed to JP Morgan, the infamous banker (though he likely wasn't the first to express the notion) :

“A man always has two reasons for what he does—a good one, and the real one.”

It tickles the rebel in me to find a gem of wisdom from the lips of a cutthroat capitalist, rather than purely from a realm of hermetic or pantless spiritual masters. Even if he was lacking in integrity, and spiritual strength, as the saying goes : even a broken clock is right twice a day. Not that he was necessarily broken (I never met the man.) But I wouldn't have employed him to tutor anyone's kids.

When it comes to being open to inspiration, or to growth, I've often found it enriching to look in all corners. Be prepared to peer a little, or a lot, into darkness, both within and without.

It's one reason why I lean to wearing black sometimes. Keep your dark part close to the surface. Other days I meddle with colours that look like they slipped off a rainbow. Fun to surf the spectrum. But black is comforting. Like the mystery of the night, or the depths of a natural water well. Comforting in the sense that I take solace in knowing I don't have all the answers. And the space that contains them is more infinite than I imagine.

Love, in serving others, can take many forms. Not always gentle. Not always wild.

But it can aim to be true, as best it knows.

Paavo update from Wind below.

DECEMBER 5, 2019

Hello everyone,

It has been six months since Paavo had his surgery for his bladder stones, he has recovered really well from it. He will continue to be on a special diet so that he won't get any more bladder stones again. The donations have helped us to pay part of his medical bills and special food, for which we are really grateful for.

He has been exercising with us at the dog park and as like all pugs do, he has a very good appetite. He seems to be regaining his youth again even though he is already 10 years old. He still has energy to run too.

Unfortunately last week he sprained his right front leg while walking outside in the icy cold weather and it has been hurting him and he can't walk so well.

We are giving frequent massages and lots of love to him so he can stay healthy and live a happy long life.

We thank you for all your support and donations, it has meant a lot to us!
