Declassified documents from 1957 reveal CIA-MI6 plot to terrorize Syria, spark fake revolution, assassinate leadership

    Ben Fenton The Guardian
    Sat, 27 Sep 2003 14:49 UTC

Catapulting the propaganda: Britain's MI6 has been doing this with their fellow psychopaths in the Mossad and the CIA for a long time...

Documents show White House and No 10 conspired over oil-fuelled invasion plan

Nearly 50 years before the war in Iraq, Britain and America sought a secretive "regime change" in another Arab country they accused of spreading terror and threatening the west's oil supplies, by planning the invasion of Syria and the assassination of leading figures.

Newly discovered documents show how in 1957 Harold Macmillan and President Dwight Eisenhower approved a CIA-MI6 plan to stage fake border incidents as an excuse for an invasion by Syria's pro-western neighbours, and then to "eliminate" the most influential triumvirate in Damascus.

The plans, frighteningly frank in their discussion, were discovered in the private papers of Duncan Sandys, Mr Macmillan's defence secretary, by Matthew Jones, a reader in international history at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Although historians know that intelligence services had sought to topple the Syrian regime in the autumn of 1957, this is the first time any document has been found showing that the assassination of three leading figures was at the heart of the scheme.

In the document drawn up by a top secret and high-level working group that met in Washington in September 1957, Mr Macmillan and President Eisenhower were left in no doubt about the need to assassinate the top men in Damascus.

Part of the "preferred plan" reads:
"In order to facilitate the action of liberative forces, reduce the capabilities of the Syrian regime to organise and direct its military actions, to hold losses and destruction to a minimum, and to bring about desired results in the shortest possible time, a special effort should be made to eliminate certain key individuals. Their removal should be accomplished early in the course of the uprising and intervention and in the light of circumstances existing at the time."
The document, approved by London and Washington, named three men: Abd al-Hamid Sarraj, head of Syrian military intelligence; Afif al-Bizri, chief of the Syrian general staff; and Khalid Bakdash, leader of the Syrian Communist party.

For a prime minister who had largely come to power on the back of Anthony Eden's disastrous antics in Suez just a year before, Mr Macmillan was remarkably bellicose. He described it in his diary as "a most formidable report". Secrecy was so great, Mr Macmillan ordered the plan withheld even from British chiefs of staff, because of their tendency "to chatter".

Concern about the increasingly anti-Western and pro-Soviet sympathies of Syria had been growing in Downing Street and the White House since the overthrow of the conservative military regime of Colonel Adib Shishakli by an alliance of Ba'ath party and Communist party politicians and their allies in the Syrian army, in 1954.

Driving the call for action was the CIA's Middle East chief Kermit Roosevelt, grandson of former president Theodore Roosevelt. He identified Colonel Sarraj, General al-Bizri and Mr Bakdash as the real power behind a figurehead president. The triumvirate had moved even closer to Nikita Khrushchev's orbit after the previous year's disastrous attempt by Britain and France, in collusion with Israel, to reverse the nationalisation of the Suez canal.

By 1957, despite America's opposition to the Suez move, President Eisenhower felt he could no longer ignore the danger of Syria becoming a centre for Moscow to spread communism throughout the Middle East. He and Mr Macmillan feared Syria would destabilise pro-Western neighbours by exporting terrorism and encouraging internal dissent.

More importantly, Syria also had control of one of the main oil arteries of the Middle East, the pipeline which connected pro-Western Iraq's oilfields to Turkey.

    The "preferred plan" adds:
"Once a political decision is reached to proceed with internal disturbances in Syria, CIA is prepared, and SIS [MI6] will attempt, to mount minor sabotage and coup de main incidents within Syria, working through contacts with individuals.

"The two services should consult, as appropriate, to avoid any overlapping or interference with each other's activities... Incidents should not be concentrated in Damascus; the operation should not be overdone; and to the extent possible care should be taken to avoid causing key leaders of the Syrian regime to take additional personal protection measures."
    Sabotage
The report said that once the necessary degree of fear had been created, frontier incidents and border clashes would be staged to provide a pretext for Iraqi and Jordanian military intervention. Syria had to be "made to appear as the sponsor of plots, sabotage and violence directed against neighbouring governments," the report says. "CIA and SIS should use their capabilities in both the psychological and action fields to augment tension." That meant operations in Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon, taking the form of "sabotage, national conspiracies and various strong-arm activities" to be blamed on Damascus.

The plan called for funding of a "Free Syria Committee", and the arming of "political factions with paramilitary or other actionist capabilities" within Syria. The CIA and MI6 would instigate internal uprisings, for instance by the Druze in the south, help to free political prisoners held in the Mezze prison, and stir up the Muslim Brotherhood in Damascus.

The planners envisaged replacing the Ba'ath/Communist regime with one that was firmly anti-Soviet, but they conceded that this would not be popular and "would probably need to rely first upon repressive measures and arbitrary exercise of power".

The plan was never used, chiefly because Syria's Arab neighbours could not be persuaded to take action and an attack from Turkey alone was thought to be unacceptable. The following year, the Ba'athists moved against their Communist former allies and took Syria into a federation with Gen Nasser's Egypt, which lasted until 1963.

SOTT Comment: 'The plan' may not have been 'actionized', to borrow spook-speak, back then, but it is precisely what happened to Syria half a century later. The reason why there is a 50-year lag between the earlier articulation of this plan and its execution is because Western powers always use the same basic plan. They just didn't get around to 'doing' Syria until other circumstances permitted.

Keep in mind that the CIA's "fear of the spread of communism" was total BS, of course, just as today's 'fear of Russia' or 'fear of Islamism' is.

As explained by former CIA Station Chief John Stockwell, the real goal was to keep Third World countries as Third World countries by fighting a prolonged Third World War. They knew the Soviets were no threat. But the rise of 'socialist' policies (that is, policies that actually raised people out of poverty, thus strengthening national independence) threatened the US' global order.

The White Helmets Are A Propaganda Construct

    Published on 9 Feb 2018

    TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: corbettreport.com/whitehelmets

Contrary to what its multi-million dollar international PR campaign would
have you believe, the "White Helmets" are not a group of volunteer
search-and-rescue workers that sprang spontaneously out of the Syrian
soil. When you peel back the layers of foreign financing and reveal the
foreign intelligence operatives and murky lobbying groups at the heart
of the organization, what you find is that the White Helmets are, in fact,
    a propaganda construct.

Syria war: Israeli fighter jet crashes under Syria fire, military says

The Israeli F-16 jet crashed near a village in northern Israel

An Israeli F-16 fighter jet has crashed amid Syrian anti-aircraft
fire after an offensive against Iranian targets in Syria, the Israeli
    military says.

The two pilots parachuted to safety before the crash in northern
Israel. It is believed to be the first time Israel has lost a jet in
the Syrian conflict. Israel was carrying out strikes after the
launch of an Iranian drone into Israel. The drone was shot down.

Syria accused Israel of "aggression", as Israel then launched more
strikes. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say they struck targets
inside Syria in the latest raids, including three aerial Syrian defence
batteries and four Iranian military sites.Israeli strikes in Syria are
not unusual, the BBC's Middle East correspondent Tom Bateman
says, but the loss of an Israeli fighter jet marks a serious escalation.

Where might Trump go in a nuclear attack?

    By Tara McKelvey
    BBC White House reporter

From Truman to Trump, US presidents have had access to bunkers to ride out a
nuclear war. So what happens to the commander-in-chief if a nuclear threat loomed?

Almost immediately, President Donald Trump would be whisked to a secure location.

He has a range of places at his disposal. One is located under the White House, a
fortified area built in the 1950s. Another is tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains
    of Virginia.

Syrian War for Dummies - Three Versions

    Chris Kanthan Sott.net
    Fri, 16 Feb 2018 21:45 UTC

Although the Syrian war is almost over, many Americans still don't understand what transpired over the last seven years, because the mainstream narrative has been an embarrassing mix of propaganda, half-truths and lies. Three versions of the conflict are presented here and the reader can choose the one that makes the most sense to them.

    Disney Version
Once upon a time, a country called Syria was ruled by a ruthless dictator named Bashar Al-Assad. He was a cruel man who gassed his own people. His actions caused a civil war in Syria. America and Europe tried their best to stop the devastating civil war, and even generously accepted many Syrian refugees. Eventually America went to Syria, defeated ISIS, and is now trying to restore stability.

This above version is quite popular among many Americans and Europeans and the Western mainstream media.

    High School Version
Oppressed by Assad's brutal regime, the Syrian people longed for freedom and democracy. One day, people started protesting in a small city. In response, Assad killed many peaceful protesters. However, this backfired and the entire country was engulfed in protests. Soon a civil war broke out, which led to millions of refugees fleeing Syria.

America was appalled and, for humanitarian reasons, decided to help the Syrians who were fighting Assad. When Assad gassed his own people, America intervened and removed all his chemical weapons. Unfortunately, Assad managed to gas innocent civilians again after a few years. Then, America went to Syria, defeated ISIS, and is now trying to restore stability.

The above version is presented in most of the global mainstream media.

    College Version
Simply put, the Syrian "civil war" is an illegal, proxy war waged against Syria. In defiance of international laws, many countries have been sending weapons and terrorist mercenaries into Syria for the last seven years (if you want to gain a deeper understanding of who wants to topple Assad and why, please read my article: "Chaos in Syria: Part 1 - Three Motives and Seven Countries").

    2011
In early 2011, US/UK special forces used Jordan's military base to organize protests against Assad in a border town called Daraa. With Muslim Brotherhood's organizational skills and Saudi Arabia's deep pockets, violent protests spread thru Syria. Soon, an organized and armed militia known as Free Syrian Army (FSA) was created by the outsiders.

After the fall of Gaddafi in late 2011, the US State Department and US intelligence agencies organized the shipment of tons of deadly weapons such as Stinger missiles and Sarin gas from destroyed Libya to Syria, via Turkey. Even with all this help, the American proxy force known as the FSA couldn't win the war. At this point, NATO and Neocons wanted to bomb Syria, but Russia and China vetoed the motion in the UN, so the imperial war by deception moved on to the next phase.

    2012
In early 2012, someone dialed Al Qaeda (referred to as AQ or AQI in government documents). Zawahiri, AQ's top leader, called for help and experienced Islamic terrorists from all over the world rushed into Syria by way of Saudi Arabia's international jihadist recruitment agency. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, received an email from her chief adviser, saying that "Al Qaeda is on our side" .

Al Qaeda rebranded itself as Al Nusra, and fearsome weapons such as grenade launchers, mortars, tanks and anti-tank missiles started pouring into Syria via Turkey and Jordan.

The CIA spent $100,000 to train each rebel. Billions of US taxpayers dollars were wasted once again on supporting the same terrorist groups that attacked the USA on 911 .

Watching the western media, the average person had no idea that we were supporting Al Qaeda or how heavily armed these "rebels" were.

Western media and politicians also stuck to their talking points and referred to all these fighters as "moderate rebels." However, many of them are ruthless Islamists who use suicide bombers, behead even children, and commit unspeakable atrocities. They are also religious fanatics who seek out and kill Christians and Shiites. I describe this in detail in my book, Deconstructing the Syrian War.

A Pentagon memo warned against this reckless policy and precisely predicted the rise of groups such as ISIS. Obviously the memo was ignored (or even happily accepted) by the White House and other officials.

2012 was also the year when the refugee crisis became a serious international problem. By the end of the year, almost 200,000 people had fled Syria. In the coming years, it would swell to five million.

    2013
When FSA and AQ failed to oust Assad, the powers-to-be started recruiting Sunni extremists in Iraq. In April 2013, ISIS was officially created. In the next year, these barbaric mercenaries would capture much of eastern Syria.

This was also the year when Obama's red-line was crossed - the use of chemical weapons by Assad. UN experts who went to the site soon found that it was actually the rebels who had likely used the chemical weapons. The report was quickly drowned by the western propaganda machine.

    2014 - 2016
The next two years were just repetitions of the daily brutality of war, with ISIS making huge gains in the east. Whenever the rebels started to lose, either more weapons would flow in, or Israel would fly into Syria and bomb the Syrian army.

In late 2015, the Syrian government sought Russia's help. Within a month, the Russian air force weakened ISIS by destroying most of the oil tankers that ISIS was using to transport oil to Turkey. By the end of 2016, the Syrian government had the upper hand - Aleppo was liberated from Al Qaeda, and ISIS was running out of cash and morale.

    2017
2017 was turning out to be a great year for Assad. By March, ISIS had lost over three hundred towns to the Syrian army.

Al Qaeda was facing a similar demise, losing one big city after another.

Furthermore, Trump had stopped arming the rebels in February. In late March, Trump and Tillerson dropped the slogan "Assad must go".

Finally, Assad was getting ready for a EU-UN peace conference on April 4-5.

This was the moment - when events had turned in favor of the Syrian government - that the alleged chemical attack occurred in an area controlled by the rebels. Plus it happened on the very day that the peace conference began.

Without any investigation, within an hour after the pictures and videos came out, Western warmongers declared that Assad was responsible. No independent doctors or experts were sent to the site. Anyone who took the time to critically analyze the situation could see that the chemical attack was was either a hoax or a false flag attack.

    2018
After Russia had effectively defeated ISIS, the US didn't just leave Syria, since the real goal is to Balkanize Syria and prepare for a war against Iran. Thus the globalists are now trying to use Kurds as a proxy tool in this effort. It's likely that the US will have military bases in Syria for a long time. As long as the US government can keep borrowing money, such wild adventures will continue.

In their quest for hegemonic geopolitical goals, the elites are sowing more chaos around the world and irreparably damaging the western moral compass. The global mafia's rule seems to be this: if you play by our rules, we will be nice to you. If you don't...

Those are the three versions of the Syrian civil war. Which one will Americans choose to believe?

Iran - An Illuminati Target Always

    by John Hamilton
    (henrymakow.com) February 16, 2018

When we see headlines like, "US, Turkish Troops Headed For Military Showdown In Syria," and its multiple variants. One might be forgiven if one wonders, "Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya.....what in the world is the U.S. now doing fighting Turkey in Syria? Will this madness never end?" The headlines only make sense in the framework of the neocon a.k.a. Global Elite a.k.a. Illuminati plan for world domination.

This essay is adapted from John Hamilton's new book False Flags, State Secrets, Government Deceptions: A Short History of the Modern Era

    by John Hamilton
    (henrymakow.com)

The CIA plotted the military coup that toppled Iran's democratically-elected prime minister, Mohammed Mossadegh, an ardent nationalist, and returned the Shah of Iran to power in 1953.

Why the coup? It was Mossadegh's plan to nationalize the Western-owned oil fields and make them profitable for Iran. The U.S. and Britain found this unacceptable.

A bit of background to set the stage for yet another story of U.S. intervention in a foreign nation, and the hypocrisy of the U.S. reverence for "democracy." U.S. reverence, in reality, has always been reserved for gathering dollars. Everything else: a myth.

    BACKGROUND
The roots of Western involvement in Iranian oil go way back to 1901 when one William Knox D'Arcy, a wealthy London socialite, negotiated an oil concession with Mozaffar al-Din Shah Qajar of Persia. D'Arcy had made his fortune from share ownership in the Mount Morgan mine, Queensland, Australia. Why not increase it even more in Persia? That was the thinking.

D'Arcy got exclusive rights to prospect for oil across most of Iran. Term: 60 years. The Shah got £20,000 (equal to something like £2.3 million today), an equal amount in shares of D'Arcy's company, and a promise of 16% of future profits.

For a while, it looked like the Shah got the best of the deal. The oil was out there, under the sand, but proving very hard to find.

D'Arcy had hired geologist George Bernard Reynolds to do the actual work, and it was back- and heart-breaking work. Reynolds encountered miserable conditions: bandits, warlords, 100 degree-plus temperatures, smallpox outbreaks, and a lack of water. And, not only miserable, this oil exploration was an expensive business, too. Rich as D'Arcy was, Reynolds eventually went through enough of the D'Arcy fortune that D'Arcy threw in the towel. He sold most of his shares to Glasgow-based Burmah Oil Co. He wired Reynolds to stop work, liquidate assets and come home. There was no oil to be had in Iran -- or so it seemed.

A persistent fellow, Reynolds delayed a bit, and pressed on just a bit further. Amazingly, within days, he found oil May 26, 1908; it was the same month D'Arcy had sold out.

The lucky beneficiary and new owner, Burmah Oil, created a public subsidiary and named it Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC), April 14, 1909. Burmah sold shares to the public. The business was successful.

On behalf of the British navy, Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill became a new customer of APOC in 1913. So big, in fact, that eventually the British government became APOC's largest shareholder. The company was renamed Anglo-Iran Oil Company (AIOC) in 1935. Another name change would come in 1954, to British Petroleum.

After World War II, nationalism was on the ascendant in Iran. Foreign-owned companies like AIOC were subject to grievances like poor working conditions and relatively-small royalties paid to Iran. In 1947, for example, AIOC reported after-tax profits of £40 million ($112 million), but at this time the contractual agreement entitled Iran to just £7 million or 17.5% of profits. (Recall the original agreement called for the Shah to get 16%, not much progress for the Iranians.) The locals were feeling exploited.

In March 1951, the conflict came to a head: the Iranian parliament voted to nationalize the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC) and its holdings. Foreigners out! Mohammed Mossadegh was nominated by parliament and then named prime minister by the Shah April 28, 1951. It would be his task to fulfill the mandate.

In response to this turn of events, AIOC withdrew from Iran. Britain pressured other nations to boycott Iranian oil.

Negotiations with the new prime minister failed. Officials at the British Ministry of Fuel and Power wrote in September, 1951: "If we reached a settlement on Mossadegh's terms, we would jeopardize not only British but also American oil interests throughout the world. We would destroy prospects of the investments of foreign capital in backward countries. We would strike a fatal blow to international law. We have a duty to stay and use force to protect our interest ... We must force the Shah to bring down Mossadegh."

So the money was at stake, but even more so was an entire way of life, the Western business model of 'investing capital in backward countries,' in their own words.

    MOSSADEGH

For his part, Mohammed Mossadegh was anything but backward. Born to a wealthy family, he was educated in France and Switzerland and earned a Ph.D. in law. On a visit to the U.S., October 1951 Mossadegh presented a complex proposal to break the logjam. He even proposed to buy out the Western capitalists. Nevertheless, it was rejected.

American and British interests thought it a simpler and better solution to get rid of Mossadegh.

So a counter-plot was born, according to a 1954 CIA document.

Yielding to pressure from the West, the Shah himself dismissed Mossadegh in mid-1952. The result: huge public riots. Mossadegh was re-installed, now with even more prestige.

Meanwhile, the CIA wrote up a royal decree for the Shah to sign to change the government, but timid, or indecisive, or both he resisted. Not taking 'no' for an answer, the CIA employed both the Shah's bolder twin sister, Princess Ashraf Pahlevi and Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, the father of the Desert Storm commander, to act as intermediaries to shore up the Shah.

It didn't work. As the situation, and more riots, were heating up, the Shah left the country "for medical reasons." The British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), too, backed away at this time, but the CIA kept chipping away, putting together an amalgamation of pro-Shah and military forces.

It worked. On August 19, 1953, the Iranian military, backed by street protests organized and financed by the CIA, overthrew Mossadegh.

The Shah now felt safe to come home and take power. In gratitude for the assist, he turned over 40 percent of Iran's oil fields to a consortium of companies. The ownership group was incorporated in London, and comprised of the following: British Petroleum (40%), Gulf Oil (8%), Royal Dutch Shell (14%), and Compagnie Française des Pétroles (later Total S.A., 6%). Four Aramco partners--Standard Oil of California (SoCal, later Chevron), Standard Oil of New Jersey (later Exxon), Standard Oil Co. of New York (later Mobil, then ExxonMobil), and Texaco--each held an 8% stake in the holding company.

Mossadegh served three years in prison and then was under house arrest for the rest of his life. He died in 1967.

    (Mohammed Rez Pahlavi)

For his part, the Shah would remain a U.S. ally until 1979, when nationalism stirred again, this time expressed as the Islamic Revolution, and he was finally overthrown by angry militants. The militants seized the U.S. embassy and held 444 American staff hostage until January 1981.

    CONCLUSION
Why does the U.S. have a fractious and adversarial relationship with Iran to this day? This history gives some insight. And so do the plans the hawkish, war-mongering "neocons" hold for the future of Iran.

In a 2007 interview with Amy Goodman, host, Democracy Now!, Gen. Wesley Clark cites a classified Pentagon plan he was told of by a former subordinate, but not shown, that would "take out" Mideast nations "Iraq, and then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and, finishing off, Iran." Only in this context does U.S. involvement in the Syrian Civil War make sense. Or our continuous conflict with Iran. It is part of a broader neocon, global elitist plan to rule the world.

Ruling other peoples, and accessing their wealth, i.e., colonialism, oppression, tyranny, is a lucrative, but ultimately dangerous business with the enormous potential to backfire. Much like most other crimes...

The Syrian government in Damascus has offered no confirmation.

Turkey regards the Kurdish fighters, just across its border in Afrin, as terrorists. It
launched a major offensive against them last month.

Fort Shafter Developing Plan to Evacuate Americans in S. Korea

    18 Feb 2018

The head of U.S. Army Pacific at FORT SHAFTER (SCHOFIELD BARRACKS) and his staff have been tasked with creating a Noncombatant Evacuation Operation plan for Americans in South Korea should war occur on the peninsula, the top military commander in the Pacific said.

Hawaii-based Gen. Robert Brown is developing what's known as the "NEO" plan and will see it through to fruition, Adm. Harry Harris, who leads U.S. Pacific Command on Oahu, said at a congressional hearing Wednesday.

Harris added that the numbers are "staggering" -- with estimates of more than 200,000 Americans civilians in the South.

"Not military, but Americans who live and work in South Korea," Harris said. "And then on top of that you've got a million Chinese that live and work on the Korean Peninsula, 60,000 Japanese and on and on and on."

Marines May Go to Alaska for Cold-Weather Training
