Madrid is desperately trying to prevent the independence referendum in Catalonia

A week before the planned independence referendum in Catalonia, Madrid is trying to prevent this with repression. The constitutional court has called the vote illegal, the prosecutor complains to parliamentarians, government representatives and mayors, who are campaigning for the referendum. The Spanish PP government has sometimes been threatened by violence, which has been suggested to use military forces even in emergency situations. Every effort is made to prevent the referendum.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Rajoy repeated that the referendum will not take place. The government had already prevented it. No government can accept that the constitution and national sovereignty are liquefied.
In parliament, Prime Minister Rajoy received no majority support for the hard-hitting action against the Catalan government and hundreds of mayors. Millions of election papers and posters for the referendum were confiscated. Civil servants were already being investigated by the Civil Guard, and high officials were arrested. The Fiscalia, the prosecutor's office, the Catalan police Mossos d'Esquadra, who had proved their worth in the attacks, now subordinated the Guardia Civil until 1 October.
The head of the Mossos, Josep Lluís Trapero, said they would follow the instructions of the prosecutor's office, but they would follow their own responsibilities and not become part of the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. The Catalan government rejects the Mossas' imprisonment under the Civil Guard as the Catalan Minister of the Interior, Joaquim Forn, made clear.
The Spanish newspaper El Pais draws attention to a survey, according to which 61 per cent of the Catalans do not believe that the referendum is regarded as valid internationally. However, 82% of the Catalans claim to clarify the question of independence through a valid referendum. This is clearly in contrast to the Spanish government, which wants to prevent a referendum under all circumstances.
To this end, the action of the Catalan Supreme Court (TSJC), which on Saturday ordered the closure of three websites, which should register the vote for the referendum planned by the Catalan government. Also prohibited were all other sites and sites on Twitter and Co., which are supposed to do this on behalf of the Catalan government. This is monitored by the Guardia Civil, which gave the providers the necessary data for the blockade.
