"Annual Marigolds can be used anywhere to deter Mexican bean beetles, squash bugs, thrips, tomato hornworms, and whiteflies." One word of warning for marigolds - slugs & snails love them. They apparently are not supposed to like them - but in practice they eat them down to the soil. And then they move on to your strawberries, lettuce and other greens!

So if you have a slug or snail problem - keep the marigolds away from your greens and strawberries
