The fact that suspicion governs the "freshness" of the bodies at the Ukraine crash scene from a plane that embarked from Schipol airport and the bodies are being returned to the same starting point beggars belief that this be allowed. "The most significant find today was we went into a heavily wooded area and found a huge piece of fuselage," Mr Bociurkiw said.

How odd is a cluster of plane accidents?

In the space of eight days, three passenger planes have been lost in mid-flight. A cluster of accidents so close together may seem an unlikely coincidence but is it?

The first accident happened on Thursday 17 July, when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 fell from the sky over eastern Ukraine, apparently brought down by a missile. Seven days later a plane crashed in Taiwan (above), and on the eighth day another flight went down en route to Algeria from Burkina Faso. In all, 462 people are thought to have died.

Some people may suddenly be wondering how safe it is to fly.

But Harro Ranter, director of the Aviation Safety Network which catalogues plane crashes, says clusters of accidents are not unusual. Analysing the number and frequency of fatal crashes of aircraft capable of carrying 14 or more passengers since 1990, he finds there have been 45 dates when there have been two or more crashes (excluding collisions).

In 105 cases there have been accidents on consecutive days. In fact, he found it was more common for an accident to happen just one day after another crash than two, three or more days later.

Why might this be?

"It is essentially a coincidence, except for the technicality that adverse weather involving thunderstorms and typhoons is more common in some seasons than others," says Arnold Barnett, a Professor of Statistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

However, Barnett also draws attention to the theory of Poisson distribution, which implies that short intervals between crashes are actually more probable than long ones.

"Suppose that there is an average of one fatal accident per year, meaning that the chance of a crash on any given day is one in 365," says Barnett. "If there is a crash on 1 August, the chance that the next crash occurs one day later on 2 August is 1/365. But the chance the next crash is on 3 August is (364/365) x (1/365), because the next crash occurs on 3 August only if there is no crash on 2 August."

As each day passes, the likelihood of a fatal accident falls. "It seems counterintuitive, but the conclusion follows relentlessly from the laws of probability," Barnett says.

They actually seem to go in clusters, at least some of them ... logically , there's no 'equal distribution' but also .. this may have something to do with either solar flares or other kinds of radiation affecting the atmosphere . Or else ..

I find MH370 very odd, MH17 very odd, and now this AH5017 in Mali, (crashing right after being diverted over a war zone) not just a little suspicious, but very odd.

The one in Taiwan (GE222) seems to be very much weather related, not much suspicion surrounding that crash, but the other 3, well, VERY odd.

We must consider AH5017 went down during an aviation alert over Israel because of a missile threat and while all carriers were avoiding the area there. Also many many countries are pissed right now with Israel and many of these countries contain radicals that'll shoot at anything that moves, especially if they think it has any western interests what so ever, including those fighters on the ground in Mali being suppressed by the French (coincidence half the passengers were French???). Also sand storms at 30,000ft???? Also diversion to avoid a collision? Collision with what? Storms? theres planes flying through and around storms daily and they don't all crash.

Anything that happens right now needs to be looked at with a sharp eye in my opinion, there's just too much going on right now and too many ingredients to cause motive to do such things.....and the pressure for war is escalating not de-escalating.

Same thoughts here as soon as I heard on the news that the Dutch OVV council handed the
black boxes over to the British to 'retrieve' the data.

The OVV declared that the black boxes were not tampered with ... to underline that the
