Default Glenn Cornick of Jethro Tull - Dead At 67

I'm very sad about the recent passing of Jethro Tull. His magical concerts have brought us so much joy so it's sad knowing that he's not going to be around anymore to do that.

Quote The rocker reportedly passed away after suffering heart failure at his home in Hawaii on Thursday (28Aug14).
Cornick was the group's first bassist. He recorded and toured with Jethro Tull until 1970.
A tribute written early on Saturday (30Aug14) by the band's frontman Ian Anderson has been posted on JethroTull.com. It reads: "It is with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of Glenn Cornick, bass player with Jethro Tull from the band's inception 1968 until 1970.
"Glenn was a man of great bonhomie and ready to befriend anyone - especially fellow musicians. Always cheerful, he brought to the early stage performances of Tull a lively bravado both as a personality and a musician.
"His background in the beat groups of the North of England and his broad knowledge of music were always helpful in establishing the arrangements of the early Tull.
"During the many years since then, Glenn continued to play in various bands and was a frequent guest at Tull fan conventions where he would join in with gusto to rekindle the musical moments of the early repertoire.
"We will miss him hugely and our condolences go to his wife Bridgette and children."

For Clarity; Jethro Tull is the name of the band, Glenn Cornick was the group's first bassist.

Question Glenn Cornick of Jethro Tull - Dead At 67

Perhaps your thread title is a bit misleading to fans ...

Jethro Tull's a band and the picture you posted is of Ian Anderson its founder

who is still quite alive and doing well ...

Note:"Jethro Tull's former bass player Glenn Cornick has died, aged 67."

Oh.... ok. Thanks for telling me that! Sad that their bass drummer died then but am glad Ian is still alive and well!

So this means that the band will probably still go on? I sure hope so! Will definitely go to their next concert when it's in Cleveland!

That is sad news! I've been a huge fan of their music since age 14. My favorite albums-Songs from the Wood followed by Heavy Horses. And, of course who could forget one of the major rock anthems of the 70's, Aqualung?

Charlie stole the handle so I hope their train won't slow down!

Added Glenn Cornick to the title of this thread.... didn't even read that article I posted here and did not know the names of each band member. I just assumed that Glenn Cornick was the real name of Jethro Tull.... duh.

I've been to 3 of their concerts though. There's nothing like a Jethro Tull concert! So much fun!

I just read that Ian Anderson retired the band in April 2014. He's focusing on his solo career.

Jethro Tull have been touring in one form or another for decades - however Ian Anderson - the true voice & flute and songwriter of the band mainly tours
with various musicians and plays old Tull numbers. for your information Glen Cornick was a Bass Guitar player - not bass drummer -Glen was with the band for 2 years 1968-1970
he played on one of my particular Jethro Tull favorite albums "Stand Up"

Default Glenn Cornick of Jethro Tull - Dead At 67

I think it would be wise to change the name of the thread.

Jethro Tull is a historical figure who died in 1741 and he was an agricultural pioneer.

The story I've heard from my older musician friends is that the band headed by Ian Anderson was not well liked in England at their inception and they kept changing their name in order to get bookings in pubs and bars. So Ian Anderson came up with Jethro Tull as an honor to the English agricultural pioneer, thinking that this name would have to be dropped too. But after the name change to "Jethro Tull" they were accepted and so the name stuck!

I'm saddened to hear of the passing of one of the band members but I'm glad Ian Anderson is still alive and well. I have attended a number of their concerts. Their theatricality as a band is unparalleled! Their music resembles no other! Their wizardry remains indelibly imbedded in my mind!

I saw Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull in concert at Southampton Guildhall last April.

Brilliant show. Happy to report he still plays the flute standing on one foot too.

I wish Glenn Cornick all the best for his onward journey.

I saw them first in 1970 in Inverness. I shook Ian Anderson's hand.
