Mysterious Spontaneous Combustions Return to Sicilian City

    Paul Seaburn

Things are suddenly catching fire for no apparent reason in the small Sicilian village of Canneto di Caronia. That was true in January of 2004 and it’s happening again today as residents report the spontaneous combustion of things like mattresses, beds, cars, unplugged appliances and switched-off cell phones.

The mysterious spontaneous combustions of Canneto di Caronia began in the middle of January 2004 when electrical appliances such as refrigerators, radios and televisions began catching fire even when unplugged and there were reports of fires in bundles of wires not plugged into an electrical socket. Enel , the local electric company, cut off power to the village but the fires mysteriously continued.

The mayor had the village evacuated and inspected by the fire department and police, who found no evidence of arson and no logical explanations. When a fire started at the local water pipeline station, the mayor shut it down and called in outside investigators. Experts from the railroads, electric companies, universities, the military and environmental agencies also found no logical or natural reasons for the fires.

Police inspect mysteriously burned objects in Canneto di Caronia.

After a few months of no fires, the residents were allowed back into their village, only to have the fires begin again in April 2004. Again, no logical causes were found and the fires seemed to end by August. The electric company made improvements to the grid but could did not say if they solved the problem. They didn’t, because the fires have occurred sporadically ever since.

In 2007, an Italian newspaper published a leaked government report which blamed the fires on “aliens” because they were “caused by high power electromagnetic emissions which were not man-made and reached a power of between 12 and 15 gigawatts.”
And now the spontaneous combustions are back again and increasing in frequency.

Starting in late summer 2014, residents reported unexplained fires in furniture, stacks of folded clothes and a car. As a result, the poor citizens of Canneto di Caronia have been evacuated again while firefighters put out blazes and look again for causes.

This time, suggestions include UFOs, a Tesla-type Magnifying Transmitter, ghosts or evil spirits or even a troubled young person who is pyrokinetic. Sicily’s council member for health and safety Vittorio Alfieri thinks the cause is “an entity” that transfers “from one house to another.”

    Or something else?

This sounds possibly due to faulty electrics. You find this with exploding manhole covers: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ll-winter.html

The really weird stuff is human spontaneous combustion. The link below is to a site called How stuff works, but they really have no idea.

This is also what I found while trying to solve the why of this phenomenon, alcohol(ism) often plays a key role.

Woman bursts into flames in German park

Mystery and tragedy went hand-in-hand in Flensburg, northern Germany on Monday evening, when passersby noticed a woman sitting on a bench suddenly burst into flames.

Shortly before seven o'clock pedestrians looked on in horror as flames leapt up from a woman who was sitting on a park bench at a playground, reports the Flensburger Tagesblatt.

Eye witnesses say that the woman didn't make a sound as the flames engulfed her.

Another reported to police that she saw two men in the vicinity shortly before the incident. They then made a quick getaway, the witness said.

The woman's life was saved when a quick-witted man took off his jacket and used it to beat down the flames.

Police and ambulance crews quickly arrived on the scene, and the woman, who originally comes from Mauritius and is in her mid-forties, was taken to the local hospital before being transferred to a specialist burns unit in Lübeck, but she is still in a critical condition.

State prosecutors are keeping an open mind during investigations, although they currently believe the fire could have been a suicide attempt.
