I knew of a blind dog a while back and if you didn't know it you would not think it. Their great noses seem to do the job quite well.
What always strikes me, when I come across these stories, is how some higher animals are now developing problems with their eyes...which is a sign of evolution movement...eyes are related to the pineal gland.

I'm quite sure Tom will be just fine, just give him lots of support...and love...they feel just like us

My heart goes out to Tom, and I am sending him healing energy.

My own dog and constant companion, Eddie, lost one eye to an inherited condition when he was 5 and lost the sight in his remaining eye about 4 years ago. He has been totally blind since then and does remarkably well.

He never really lost his quality of life and has continued through the years to play constantly even though blind. (he's a Jack Russell terrier and has a high energy level). He loves to take walks and still plays ball. Only recently he has begun to slow down since he's going on 15. Just wanted to share this with you so you'll know that Tom still has a quality lifetime ahead of him.

There are some great websites for owners of blind dogs with lots of important tips. One that I have used is creating an extra set of 'whiskers' for Ed so that he won't crash into furniture or walls. It is easily done by attaching plastic electrical ties to the collar. They stick out several inches beyond the collar and bump into obstacles before Eddie does. PM me for more information on this if you'd like to create something like it for Tom.

Lots of love and healing thoughts coming your way for Tom ((((((((0))))))))

It's been said by most in the comments, and it's true, that a dog's most powerful sense is not, like humans, sight, but smell. The old sled dog will not have the pain and irritation of his ulcerated eyes any more and he will quickly adjust and be much happier. It will take the owner longer to realise the dog is doing fine as we know how shattered our lives would be without sight, though we too would cope.

I hope all goes well and Tom has enjoys his later years of happy retirement, free of pain and surrounded by the people who love him--- and lots of new scents and smells to explore.

    Hi Earth Angel,

I'm wondering how Tom is doing today and am still sending love and healing energies his way.

Here are some photos of my blind dog Eddie with his special collar. These electrical ties function just like extra whiskers and help to keep Ed from bumping into furniture and walls. He has become reliant on them and they really work.

Sorry the photos came out sideways...not sure how that happened, but you can see how the ties are attached and how they function.

on it's way. one of my three dogs is blind too. He's the smallest one and does just fine as he orientates through sound and smell.
    He's very clever.
good luck with the cure. He'll be fine.

my daughter says to thank you all very much for all your love and healing thoughts....Tom is doing ok, he is very swollen and of course the sight of his eyes sewn shut is hard for her to handle (she is a big softy when it comes to animals)... he is 14 years old and worked until last year as a sled dog....when the vet did his blood work before deciding if he could handle the surgery she said he has the blood work of a 3 year old dog....that is why they decided to do this to him at this advanced age...everyone thinks he is a young dog......thanks again everyone, please keep up the healing energy
