    Mysterious Circle Discovered In Antarctica

Did a House-Sized Meteorite Create This Mysterious Circle in Antarctica?

Geophysicist Christian Mueller with the Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar
and Marine Research (AWI) in Germany, was looking out the window of an instrument
laden plane when the previously unknown ringed formation, 2000 meters (1.24 miles)
    in diameter, came into view.

researchers are proposing is a meteorite impact site. (Credit:Tobias Binder, AWI)

The discovery occurred on December 20th from the AWI Polar 6 aircraft as they were
flying over the Princess Ragnhild Coast. The formation is located on the King Baudouin
Ice Shelf not far from their landing site at Princess Elizabeth station.

Mystery Antarctic 'Crater' Could Be House-Sized Meteor Blast
    Published on Jan 8, 2015
A massive area of fractured ice more than a mile wide (2 kilometers across) could be
a meteorite impact crater in East Antarctica's King Baudoin ice shelf. On Dec. 20th,
2014, the circular structure was spotted during a survey by German scientists at Belgium's
    Princess Elisabeth research station.

Last part of the interview was interesting and reminded me of a great old film

    vid point: 20.08
    Interviewer asks:
    Impact from?
    Geophysicist Christian Mueller replies:
    From (long searching pause, Suspense).......
    Something from space..(Pause)...
    like..
    a meteorite!

    so just for fun:
    'the thing from outer space'
The film is based on the 1938 novella "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell (writing under the pseudonym of Don A. Stuart)

Interesting that the craft was said to have crashed around '20 million years ago!'
you would think a novelist would be pushing that time if he where to have said '1 million years ago' so 20 million was a bold plot time ha!

Actually reminds me of the Big UFO that takes off from under the Ice in Antarctica in the X-Files movie 'Fight The Future'!

Sorry for not adding any substance to this thread, but I just have to comment. X-Files and The Thing in the same thread, PLUS strange snow circles? What a delightful afternoon!

What are those white items in the middle area of the circle? Little snow dunes?
