Default Robots from Boston Dynamics (this should make us all very worried)

    -------

I don't know whether this is funny or scary:

Boston Dynamics has developed a four-legged robot 'dog', which can run, know which direction to head, recover its balance, climb steps, and move fast over rough ground. Must see...

So what do you think the purpose of these "dogs" would be? Would they be used in dangerous situations?

Do you think this might be a forerunner to putting human souls into machines? I thought they were fascinatingly creepy...

    At least, they can't bite...yet!

    Just a little FYI:

You know who owns Boston Dynamics?

Google acquires Boston Dynamics and seven other robotics companies: Next stop, Judgment Day

Quote So, again, what does Google plan to do with its Googlebots? (Webmasters will find this portmanteau funny, as Google’s web crawling spider is also known as the Googlebot). Following the Boston Dynamics acquisition, Google says that it plans to honor its existing contracts, including the military contract with DARPA, but it doesn’t plan on pursuing any further military contracts after that. It isn’t clear how this will affect the fates of BigDog and Atlas, both of which are important parts of the US military’s plans to field an automated, robotic army.
    Article here: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/1...p-judgment-day

    Last paragraph:

Quote Personally, though, I have a nagging feeling that Google will combine its computer vision (Google Glass), machine learning (search), and newly acquired robotics expertise to create intelligent, humanoid robots — or, if you’ve seen Battlestar Galactica, cylons. To begin with, of course, these robots will be cybernetic slaves to humanity — helper bots that make fast food and open doors and sweep the street. Then, one fateful day someone will make the mistake of putting Googlebots in charge of the Googlebot production line. When the technological singularity eventually hits — probably around 2050 — these Googlebots will gain sentience and self-awareness. From that point on, they’ll be tormented by a single question: Do we continue to be slaves of humans, or do we take over this Googlebot factory, churn out millions of sentient bots, and take over the world?

These mobile applications are "B" class technology for applications in the field of warfare, to be used by "grunts" able to facilitate some electro-mechanical repairs on the fly.

It is the AI that is significant here rather than the application. The AI is tranferrable whereas the electro-mechanical unit isn't.

Hardly think Special Services will be dropping behind enemy lines with a motorised (two or four stroke) "dawg" in tow as it's hardly stealth.

I would expect these units to be utilised in urban areas to scare the bejebbers out of local populations rather than any serious tactical application based on the design currently being shown here for public scrutiny.

The AI is the important thing here analogous with drone swarms. Consider the same dawg unit equipped with fleets or swarms of automous weaponised drones like a small aircraft carrier. That would be scary and most likely a more viable preposition for application worthiness. As a bag carrier for troops, hardly think so, but who knows.

In a nutshell, the AI and control system is key, the dawg is superficial and another drain on the military budget. Far superior systems exist though not in the public domain.

DARPA probably has on its long-term, contracted development checklist for Boston Dynamics:

    • How to make them all totally silent (even the larger models).
    • How to make sure they have no heat signature (to minimize their detectability).
    • How groups of them can communicate with each other and render assistance when needed (like, if one needs repair, or gets stuck in a swamp).
    • What kinds of weapons (or surveillance equipment) they can carry.
    • How to enable them to make good tactical (or strategic) decisions on their own, with no human input.
    • How to enable them to detect friends and foes (including enemy robots, because that day will come).
    • (and even) How to ensure they can operate underwater (not just crossing lakes and rivers).
    • (and) How to merge their capability with flying drones, so they really can go anywhere.
    • And re souls, remember that a free discarnate being might CHOOSE to inhabit one of these things, if it's sufficiently artificially intelligent and can play an interesting enough 'game'... (<— not a joke at all)

Boston Dynamics is an engineering and robotics design company that is best known for the development of BigDog, a quadruped robot designed for the U.S. military with funding from Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and DI-Guy, software for realistic human simulation. Early in the company's history, it worked with the American Systems Corporation under a contract from the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) to replace naval training videos for aircraft launch operations with interactive 3D computer simulations featuring DI-Guy characters.

Marc Raibert is the company's president and project manager. He spun the company off from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992.

On 13 December 2013, the company was acquired by Google, where it will be managed by Andy Rubin. Immediately before the acquisition, Boston Dynamics transferred their DI-Guy software product line to VT MÄK, a simulation software vendor based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.About Boston Dynamics

Boston Dynamics is wholly owned subsidiary of Google, Inc. We began as a spin-off from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where National Academy of

Engineering member Marc Raibert and his colleagues first developed robots that ran and maneuvered like animals.

They founded the company in 1992, and their ground-breaking work continues to inspire much of our work.

Boston Dynamics has an extraordinary technical team of engineers and scientists. The team seamlessly combines advanced analytical thinking with boots-in-the-mud practicality.

We pride ourselves in building machines that are both innovative and actually work.

This is CUJO, being tested in the field.

I have been watching Google X (secret R&D) over the past couple of years, as they have buying up robotic companies and hiring the world's top robotic experts. They are a terrifying company in my estimation, along with their deep connections to DoD and DARPA.

And they call it "creeping militarization". Click image for larger version

Or ones we DO know about: nerve/bio agents, chemical weapons, or even a suitcase nuke. An 'ideal' delivery system. Won't show up on radar, stealthy, ingenious, silent, makes its own decisions, involves no human risk, and could cut its way with a small laser through any chain fence.

    @Bill - Absolutely

This technology was available twenty years ago. I am a Robotics, Control and Instrumentation engineer and I can confirm this tech is "grunt" junk. In the field of technological development material sciences and energy applications are the fields of exploitation we will not see in the public domain.

If you can think it - it can and probably has been imagineered. This is not an idle brag.

Autonomous swarm technology is the science to be feared. From micro to macro level, negating the human from the application is most profitable and most reliable (in part). The traditional electro-mechanical domain for applications is virtually over with the emerging sciences now dominating in black operations. (No I have not been involved directly, others around me had and sought advice which I declined to be included. They were on a one way trip to despair as their work was never their own).

By example the film about the aliens landing in Johannesburg, the "prawns" depicted in the final scenes an autonomous bipedal mech for one occupant which was packed with clever energy weapons, I contend this unit or ones similar are already in production. Including the weapons. Is it far fetched, no. It is only far fetched if you are unable to fathom the science. The science we were all raised with is nonsense, the education of the sheep.

Afterall, the PTB want to ensure consistent kill rates without the plebs (us) understanding or having any knowledge of the sciences involved. Distraction, deflection and misinformation are fantastic pschological weapons against the public especially when a lumbering "dawg" comes charging at you, who would dream there was anything worse, but there is.

Thank you for saying that. This is way beyond the worrying stage IMO. Any informed view on what you see coming Snoweagle? What are the "emerging sciences" you speak of?

A farmer has built a robotic horse to replace the traditional kind in order to plow his
fields. Su Daocheng is seen riding his robotic horse down the streets in Shiyan,
central China's Hubei Province. According to Su, 60, he is addicted to inventions
and making mechanical things. From two months ago he started to build this
robotic horse, which is 1.5m high, 2m long and weighs 250kg. It has been created
from a kart engine and chains. The ‘feed’ is gasoline and Su said the robotic horse
is more economic as it does not cost fodder and human care. Su is well-known in
the local county for his inventions and even created a homemade helicopter.

One way or another, sooner or later we're all going to die. How we die is not nearly as important as how we choose to live. I, for one, refuse to spend one more second "worrying about" anything.

Just seen on the recorded news today(ch 10 Knoxville) ...a short clip about the history of the Spaniards when they came through the Appalachia in their 'conquest'

They used 'wardogs' that they fed Indian flesh as reward. The dogs were similar to Greyhounds and would be loosed ahead of the troop to track and run down the Indians....and then the Spaniards would ravage the villages taking whatever they wanted and leaving only ruins

This was verified later by other later- following Indian groups ...and gave rise later to the Cherokees . The Cherokees recorded history verifies the pillage of the Spaniards

    Does this look 'familiar'?

scenario: if the environment is say, somewhat radioactive,,,or poisonous to breathe, these 'robo-dogs' would not be bothered and could 'clear' an area.

I have mentioned in the past about someone that told me years ago (around 91 of the coming 'Black suiters' or riot squads ...and part of the story was they , as the Lyran warriors were the only ones that could enter such highly radioactive areas...and the ones that did. ...in this same mention was that the area such as Iran/Iraq/Israel was to have been hit with a bomb so intense that it fused the sand molecules together in a huge 'glass bowl'..and was extremely radioactive

...much more about the races future was described...but I will leave that for now...

there seems to be a lot of things 'going that direction' now..

One of the things I was told that verifies these Warriors (Black Suiters) ..and therfore the prediction was that they carried a powerful sidearm.. similar to a large shotgun on the side of their arm and simultaneously fired a rear facing (retro) recoil shell that countered the extreme recoil of such a forward firing gun

I have seen the 'Black suiters' as I understand them (todays Storm Troopers)...and can what could develop into the 'glass bowl' but have never seen the gun that was described they would have...but feel certain this is not a 'new idea' and probably already exists and is in use.

I do not want to distact the theme of the army "dawg" as the AI associated with that project is essential for other systems. More deadly systems.

This video is five years old. This video depicts an energy system shield defense system used by Israel. Whilst it looks good it has its weaknesses against combatants of equal technological prowess.

Now this video was released into the public domain at least five years ago. Therefore this system was in development for at least ten to fifteen years ago if not longer on a "wishlist" of the military. This system uses the energy weapons we have now seen deployed as "crowd control" units yet the energy deployed to stop a missle dead is significant, not for the energy level but for the signal "signature" that tears the material apart at molecular and atomic level, in a similar way that Dr Wood expressed was used in the 9/11 attack on the twin towers.

Please note: this is now old technology, yet even here this deployment is again "grunt" science just as the "dawg". The essence of the technology is still hidden from the users.

If you as a reader judge the devices of our world as an electro-magnetic regime, you will never grasp this technology.

I despise the industry for what it has become. The technology has so many benefits to mankind yet the prime use is slaughter. And they glorify each other at each step.

I am surprised people are scared of this. My first thought was, "Oh it is SO cute!". Maybe I am biased because I live in the area where this is developed so technology like this isn't new or surprising. I would think of machines like this the same as any other tool and they can be used for good or ill.

The idea that the robot could be taken over by an entity is very interesting though. My first reaction to that though is wouldn't it be similar to an entity taking over a flesh body and how the body is used, be it robot or flesh, depends on the entity taking it over and not the body?
