If you're an 'awake' Avalonian, are you using a microwave?

Hi All,

I know there is a big fight going on for the truth and all that. But practical as I am, I think there is so much more we can do around our own lives before even worrying about what's outside the front door.

Take the humble microwave for example. I mean, do you? Take the humble microwave? Do you use one?

* EDIT - For a bit of fun, here's a poll, just so you know I've not hidden the voters. I think it would be fun to see our Avalonian habits. Might be some surprising votes there ! *

I've never trusted the blighters, my Physics teacher once said to me a great law of Physics , 'You don't get owt for nowt !' (something for nothing) . So I was well wary of these things when they first appeared. Man.. I was wary of the oven chip!

I found a great article on them a while back, sadly don't have a record of that one, but until I find it.. this one's a doody. Sorry it's so long... but pass it on to anyone who loves their microwave (and their health)

I have one and I use it often.


Here's an interesting tidbit of information. When I lived in a motel. My microwave was inbetween my computer and the motels wi-fi antenae. Everytime I used the microwave I would lose the wi-fi signal during the cooking time. As soon as the mic dinged, I would get the signal back.

I worked in a cafe for a while, that made lovely 'home made' food.

What really distressed me was how much of this stuff was part cooked and then finished off in the microwave and on to your plate.

Even the desserts. Bread and butter pudding ? 4 mins Chocolate brownie ? 40 secs to get it a bit guey.

Even the 'fresh' fish which looked as if it had been grilled when on the plate, was taken out of the freezer, ran under a tap for a while, then nuked in the micro. And what microwaves too ?! We had four, in various states of functioning. Sure, they worked, but they looked more ancient than Maccu Piccu

I've got a combi micro-wave but rarely use the microwave option.
Mostly use the heated air oven function.

I have one, but it's not used to cook food, I use it to hide cakes from my son
Can't remember last time I used it to alter the molecules of our food, hate the things but is defiantly a good hiding place for all naughty yummy food I don't want to be nibbled at. That and sterilizing my moon cup, lol

Don't own one myself and I heat stuff on a pan, in a pot or in the toaster oven.

We ditched our home microwave a year ago, we don't miss it much. Food tastes much better when cooked in a regular oven btw.
The only thing we miss is the defrost function but there's other ways to thaw meats etc. we do use the one in the shop to reheat coffee though.

I spent over 10 years in the food and beverage industry, and if you ever go out to eat you are most likely eating microwaved food of some sort. There are very few restaurants that do not use a microwave to heat or even partially cook your food. I use one on occasion to re-warm food-stuff. In the polluted world in which we live in today, where everything has its hidden dangers if you are willing to look, I don't see a problem with it. Heck - what is safe nowadays? Even if you cook safe, is your food safe? - how about your water, or the air you breath, or all the microwaves coming from all the towers all around you, or...? you get the point!

Only use it to defrost and reheat - never to actually cook

Using the oven to reheat uses insane amounts of energy, and even though we have a relatively new oven, its pretty expensive to use on a regular basis.

That being said my preferred cooking method is open flame (BBQ... NOM NOM NOM) - unfortunatley this method is not as feasible when the BBQ is buried in several feet of snow.

Ha, same here... well I have no kids, but I use it to hide cakes from myself
And I mostly use it as a bread box, but I never plug it in.

You got that right, Horizons. I used to work in the RF Testing Compliance (FCC, CISPR, etc.), and can tell you that a cellphone is actually more 'dangerous' than a microwave oven.

Just a thought (now don't jump all over me- unless you're male, rich and like older women, ha!):

We know placebos work, right? - because the mind is very powerful. Most of us are familiar with Dr. Emoto's theory of changing molecules with love thoughts. So ?!? I think you see my point. I'm not promoting the use of a microwaves, although I use one occasionally for heating. But as someone earlier in the thread said: there is so much pollution that we eat, breath, etc.

But if we activate our belief system of mind over matter and bless our food before eating, filling it with love, then knowing we are great alchemists believe it is so. Yea, magic!

I believe everyone is missing the point and that's what microwaves do to the food. Many studies have shown that microwaves destroy up to 90% of the nutrient value. Conventional cooking also destroys nutrients (and more importantly, enzymes!), but not nearly as much.

An old website called Nexus had an article about Russian research that clearly showed how microwaves mangle the food and create strange compounds.

Also, search on mercola.com for his negative opinion of microwave ovens.

As a confirmed and proud health nut I'd have to say, stay away from them and eat most of your food raw.

I would like to throw in my opinion, from a perspective of someone being associated with Radio Frequency devices, and users, all my life. I am NOT a radio Amateur (HAM) nor a scientist, just an observer. I have always been very worried about the amount of RF we are all subjected to. in the form of High power electrical cables, tv and Radio stations cell phones and generally just living in cities, I was always told by an old friend of mine to be very careful of frequencies >700 Mhz and above 10 watts of power, the dosage of RF can be harmful. NOW! I have never known anyone to actually get hurt or have any harmful effects, BUT! how many times have you read about people that live close to or under High Tension Power lines and cancer cells in an around the elecectrical towers. Most of these tests and trials rarelly find a conclusive yes or no, BUT! I would like to bring this to your attention, I believe there is something in peoples make-up that makes these people susceptible to Cancer from these devices, surely you have heard people say, I have to stop using this cell phone, I get bad headaches, it's really quite often.
So in closing, I would like to say I use ALL devices >700 Mhz sparingly, and stand well back while I use my microwave oven.

With my telecoms hat on... before you get your knickers in a fry.. worrying about cellphone towers.. I'd remind you of the inverse square law. That states that the radiated power is inversely proportional to the distance squared 1/r2. So at 2 metres you have one quarter the power and at 10 metres one hundredth.

So yes, you're quite right to say mobile phones are much more hazardous, because they are very close to your skin. (So please call me on my landline peeps!) However, there is another factor about microwaves which is different to other electro magnetic frequencies. they use a particular microwave frequency (I think it's about 2.1 GHz) which is the resonant frequency of water.

You seen those videos of bridges collapsing when wind hits them just right? well this is what that particular frequency does to any water/moisture molecule. It sets it moving in motion. It is this movement that causes a friction with neighbouring matter/food molecules and it is this heat which then is conducted into the solid matter of the food, warming it up.

As far as I know, mobile phones don't use this frequency (although E1 links that carry calls between towers can be around 2GHz) 1800, 1900 Mhz region is common, but there can be harmonics of their main frequencies at this microwave level, in a smaller power.

Interesting though that with the increase in speed in computers, even parts of the humble desktop can be clocking around 2Ghz as well. Sure, it has nothing like the power of a microwave, or cellphone.. but remember the distance factor...

the intriguing fact with the microwave for me is that it can alter molecular structure during this vibratory process. Sure.. insome ways this is also true if you heat flour egg and milk in a pan.. this structure is going to change too.... but I get the feeling that with a microwave, the body no longer recognises the new molecule chains.

Sure.. bless the food by all means (a good idea if you eat in a restaurant I'd say!) ... but think how much more blessed the stuff will be if you baked it in the (normal) oven!

As I said on another post old microwaves are excellent storage vaults for electronic media such as disks and flash drives.............maybe even small computers if they will fit. They provide a shield against electromagnetic fields. Just cut off the electrical cord in back at the base.

Yes I use one to warm up my tomato soup and when my cup of tea goes cold, as to the risks I would be more worried about mobile phones.
Below is an example of a number of videos on youtube which fuel my worries.I have never thought about the risks associated with using my microwave I will know thanks.
