Default There is a link between climate change and terrorism

U.S. president makes connection between environmental changes and global conflicts. Barack Obama has spent considerable time in recent months publicly explaining his positions on both climate change and violent extremism.

But in a Coast Guard commencement address last week, the U.S. president deliberately combined the two, saying that climate change "constitutes a serious threat to global security." Security analysts say the idea has been percolating in Western military circles for the past few years, but there is still skepticism about a direct link.

Francesca de Châtel, an Amsterdam-based researcher with an expertise in water issues in the Arab world, says that while issues such as climate change and terrorism are real, "bundling them all together" is problematic.

"Climate change implies a lot of unknowns, and then if you add to that conflict, which also implies unknown outcomes, it just creates an air of uncertainty and fear," she says.

    Stage-setting for climate talks:

Still, for Obama, "climate change constitutes a serious threat to global security, an immediate risk to our national security, and, make no mistake, it will impact how our military defends our country," he told over 200 graduating Coast Guard cadets in Connecticut.

The same day as Obama's speech, the White House released a paper called "The National Security Implications of a Changing Climate."

It concludes that climate change "will change the nature of U.S. military missions, demand more resources in the Arctic and other coastal regions vulnerable to rising sea levels and other impacts, and require a multilateral response to the growing humanitarian crises that climate change is predicted to bring."

Since the mid-term elections, the president has emphasized environmental degradation as one of the world's most pressing issues. The Obama administration is onside with the majority of scientists who believe that man-made greenhouse gases are largely responsible for climate change.

Jeffrey Mazo, a consulting senior fellow on environmental issues at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, feels the speech reflects Obama's belief in the importance of tackling the environment and was a way to "mobilize support" in anticipation of the Paris climate talks this fall.

Climate Change — Overpopulation — Terrorism — Financial and Economical Crisis

Pick any one of them and see how it furthers any other. The answer? Centralized control. Voilà. That's how the "powers that be" operate.

In truth, climate change is mostly natural, overpopulation is mostly a technological and humanitarian challenge, and the other two are mostly engineered by the very "powers that be."

For several years population has been increasing faster than renewable resources. This means the amount of these resources per person is declining, in spite of modern technology. It is true that technological advance can allow us to grow more food.

Political instability and PTB intentions caused loss of freedoms, vanishing species, rain forest destruction, desertification, garbage, urban sprawl, water shortages, traffic jams, toxic waste, oil spills, air and water pollution. Those are increasing violence, crime, war and unrest. A system that puts its energy into limiting its people instead of flourishing its people is a dying system...

The truth is that population control is a very high priority for Obama! The sad thing is that the Earth is not overpopulated at all.

Maybe it's true or not that the planet has finite resources... Only times will tell!

But given the choice I'd much rather live on a radically overpopulated planet, come what may, than have some effeminate Cambridge schmuck deciding what DNA lines get to go another generation.

This post is seriously misrepresenting what Obama said. Where the writer says,

"But in a Coast Guard commencement address last week, the U.S. president deliberately combined the two, saying that climate change "constitutes a serious threat to global security." Security analysts say the idea has been percolating in Western military circles for the past few years, but there is still skepticism about a direct link."

... he or she is simply wrong.

He did NOT combine the two. Read carefully! There is no 'skepticism' about a link because it's never been made.

Someone is confusing the general threat of 'global security' with 'terrorism' and it's not Obama. What he is saying is that the global effects that come with climate change are currently, and will for the foreseeable future, create pressure on the planet's life forms - human, animal and plant - that will make survival more of a challenge.

Life forms without food or shelter will be forced to seek them out or die. To give just one example, the loss of coastlines, even entire island nations, will be the result of rising sea levels. Where will the people go? Deserts are expanding world wide. Scorched earth on which nothing can grow will force starvation on all life forms.

Try this site to see a world with sunken coastlines - not just in the good old U.S. of A. but world wide:

    http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/20...ice-melted-map

Rivers and lakes that have been reliable sources of life-giving water are disappearing on all continents except Antarctica. You only have to look at the plight of California to see how helpless our species is when it comes to large scale climate change.

The growing refugee crises (plural!) are just the beginning of world-wide shifts of population, currently driven mostly by political disasters, but such situations are only going to be exacerbated by climate change.

For the last few years, the U.S. military has been preparing its base installations, personnel and equipment for natural disasters that it predicts are in the near future.

    Obama again ...

"It concludes that climate change "will change the nature of U.S. military missions, demand more resources in the Arctic and other coastal regions vulnerable to rising sea levels and other impacts, and require a multilateral response to the growing humanitarian crises that climate change is predicted to bring."

This is simply true. This is not 'fear mongering', folks. It's a clear-eyed assessment of the biggest threat to ever face humanity. 'Terrorist extremists' (again, NOT mentioned by Obama) may stir the pot in their small ways, but they are not going to make our species extinct.

And that's why the address was given to the Coast Guard classes - they will have huge responsibilities for the coastlines of their country. Obama is absolutely right on this issue: climate change is going to change EVERYTHING. And not for the better.

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

Care to elaborate? Is there a branch of the Illuminatti I am not aware of?

Mr Obama should have gathered the troops onto his knee,
    and said gravely,

"Boys, we're gonna read STATE OF FEAR"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Fear

Quote State of Fear is a 2004 techno-thriller novel by Michael Crichton in which eco-terrorists plot mass murder to publicize the danger of global warming. Despite being a work of fiction, the book contains many graphs and footnotes, two appendices, and a twenty-page bibliography in support of Crichton's beliefs about global warming.
