Default Tattoo Recognition Technology Challenge - NIST Workshop

The US National Institute of Standards and Technology, or NIST, just held something called the Tattoo Recognition Technology Challenge Workshop. They invited computer scientists to come work on new algorithms for law enforcement to use so that they can identify people from afar by their tattoos.

Oh goodie. This is future planning so one day we can all have some kind of teensy bar-code engraved on our face or hand when we are born.

Most tattoos are too easily concealed for NIST to want to waste money on 'positive ID' of a perp. They can use other methods already. They want to be sure that if they visibly tattoos us, they can continue to read that bar code in spite of aging, weight gain, cosmetics, etc.

    Regards,

    Selene
