Unfortunately everyone remembers the Bob Rae fiasco, regardless of the truth of that situation.

Another thing, although this might be more me than them, but it seems as though people in general are becoming more like automatons every day. They gripe but they look to authority for answers - they do not try to think it through or make decisions for themselves. This authority can be about anything - a social injustice, a really bad law, how to solve a small hole in the wall, why the Maple Leafs can't win...they automatically look for the authority to tell them what's what.

and worse, those that do have an opinion are merely spouting the rhetoric of someone in authority - their opinion was framed in the words of another

People come out of university trained never to think again but to call on and actively look for an authority to tell them what they can or cannot do. When those around them are unfairly treated they fall back on the comfortable saying, "that's the law, whether right or wrong". What they are really saying is . "thank god it's you and not me." Those in this mindset are the ones that cry foul the loudest when those laws come up and bite them in the ass! Then, suddenly, the law is unfair, the red tape too cumbersome, the unblinking eye of authority focussed on the wrong and innocent person...

    Hello Everyone:
Gaia, don't be scared for Canada! Tyrants always get what they deserved! This has proven itself time and again in history.

As far as Duffy don't worry about him since he was in bed with the conservatives and claimed he had the goods to force harper and the conservative party out of office. I haven't seen anything but smoke and mirrors from him.

Canada will always be a great country and will come back from this era of dictatorship and propaganda. The war on terrorism has become the halmark of harpers bid to stay in power. The economy is in tatters and will be in complete recession by the numbers in one more month. I believe we have been in a recession since 2008 and have never recovered.

Of course when politicians talk about recession they are really talking about government in recession. The people have been taking the hit of bad economic decisions for years. We as people always make it through but governments FAIL and the conservatives WILL FAIL.

Don't be scare for Canada. We are a resilient nation and when harper the dictator leaves we all will be better off.

In Alberta the price of gas at the pumps on the last 3 weeks has gone up 29 cents a litre or $1.31 per gallon. ( Just 2 days ago it went up .18 cents a litre.
For a province that has possibly too much oil how is it going up by dollars per gallon?

The price of oil per barrel is around $42. With this price retail gas should be around 40 cents per litre.

Remember Gaia we will get through this. We always have! GOVERNMENTS FAIL and this one will also. I believe harper is very weak and that's why he controls everyone in in cabinet. They are all too scared to say anything or tell the truth. Things are changing and will change especially when it hits peoples pocket book. Everyone gets involved when it is directly pointing at them and their bank account(s)

Yes, this is an important topic.

How Canada swings in this election....is important for the unified North American continent plan.

How the creeping fascism for the entire continent will play out.

which tells you the future of the interference in Europe, with the Ukraine, and how Israel will flow and thus the Iran deal and any follow up... due to the US posture.

    and more.

Even what the final candidates for the US election may be for each party, it will probably play a part in that as well.

All coming out of one little Canadian election.

It's about cascading events, run...no..forced...by oligarchs in the backdrop. What they can pull on the public without the public knowing they are there.....and what they cannot pull.

What speed they move at and what the given sequence of events are, and so on. This plays out in the Canadian election, in October.

This much is entirely obvious, to anyone who is actually looking.

The oligarchy in the backdrop of the US, how it has infested Canada, this is critical, regarding this election. This decides exactly which group controls Canada and how their bargains may play out and then how the plan for a unified north American continent plays out, and thus this 'reboot' of the north American economy, on a terrorist attacked war footing, if necessary. A whole marching up and down the square 'we are under attack' snow job (again!), if necessary.

Quick, be humanist... add more cultures into the mix, at far too fast a rate, then call them the problem and activate the good ole' boys secret network to fix the problems! Good old fascist oligarch double dealing two faced control methods, at their finest.

In a nutshell, that's Harper's platform --- Where it comes from and who is driving it.

Looking forward to Oct 19th 2015.

Canada will get a 4 for 1 deal out of the 19th of Oct.

    1) A conservative leadership convention in the spring of 2016

    2) A Liberal leadership convention in the spring of 2016

    3) Better balanced choices for a Federal Election in october 2019

    4) Maybe a more reality based governement in 2019

That is how Canada will re-balance. After these years of failed Canadian politics there is no shortcut to restructuring.

    My guess:

Is that most people who voted Conservative in the last election will do so again, and that will result in another Conservative majority governement. I know that this doesn't sit well with the NDP/Liberals but that's life in the fast lane.

Even if the Liberals and NDP form some sort of leftie alliance, it will still be a horse race.

The NDP is crying the loudest because they know that they will lose seats in Quebec and therefore lose their coveted position as the opposition. The Liberals will pick up a few seats, and become the opposition, and that will be that.

    Random thoughts:

It's so ironic that Harper never misses an opportunity to demonize Putin when, in fact, they share an utter contempt for democratic institutions and a ruthless determination to bully dissidents into silence.

Before, there was at least the opportunity to demonstrate, to protest...!

With the new guidelines imposed on us (Bill C-51) This is the most powerful evidence of The Oligarchy who govern against us!!

Once the task(vote) is accomplished, we have absolutely no control over policy and the established laws.

Canada's buoyant Greens say they don't favor oil sands shutdown

To my English compatriots , I want to let you know that Thomas Mulcair , is also a dictator like the Conservative leader Stephen Harper.

At the time, he was Minister of the Environment he favored large corporations at the expense of the quality of the environment in which he was responsible.

For many Quebecers he is the symbol of ''sans foi, ni loi''

Morgan Wheeldon, NDP Candidate, Resigns After Israel Remarks Surface

The Huffington Post Canada By Althia Raj

    Posted: 08/09/2015 5:06 pm EDT
    Updated: 08/10/2015 11:59 am EDT

An NDP candidate whose controversial comments about Israel and Canada were featured on a Conservative attack website has resigned.
On Monday, NDP senior campaign adviser Brad Lavigne confirmed Morgan Wheeldon had been given the boot:

Quote "Our position on the conflict in the Middle East is clear, as Tom Mulcair expressed clearly in the debate. Mr. Wheeldon's comments are not in line with that policy and he is no longer our candidate. We were made aware of some information that had not previously been disclosed. When we approached Mr. Wheeldon with this information he submitted his resignation."

    © Morgan Wheeldon

The Huffington Post Canada has learned that Morgan Wheeldon, who was set to run for the NDP in the Nova Scotia riding of Kings–Hants, handed his resignation on Sunday after the party asked him to resign or be fired. His name has vanished from the national party’s website and his own website has been stripped of its content.

Judy Swift, the riding president, told HuffPost: "We don’t have any comment on that right now."

Wheeldon’s campaign manager, Ramona Jennex, said he had offered his resignation, but she declined to elaborate.

"What I do know so far is that there has been an issue that has been brought forward, and Morgan is in the process now of making a decision on which way the campaign will go," she said.

Wheeldon is featured on a Conservative Party of Canada website calling Israel’s action against Palestinians a war crime — comments he made on a Facebook post in August 2014.

"One could argue that Israel’s intention was always to ethnically cleanse the region — there are direct quotations proving this to be the case. Guess we just sweep that under the rug. A minority of Palestinians are bombing buses in response to what appears to be a calculated effort to commit a war crime," Wheeldon wrote.

The comment, since deleted, was made in the context of a discussion about controversial British MP George Galloway being physically attacked in London, allegedly for his anti-Israeli views.

“I don't agree with everything Galloway says, but the muted reaction to his beating demonstrates a double-standard in the West. If a Palestinian beat up a conservative politician with the opposite stance, the reaction would be immense,” he wrote.

Wheeldon is also quoted on the Conservative site calling Canada "a country of self-interest and cheap outs" in a September 2011 Facebook post. In his post, Wheeldon wrote that Canada used to be known as a compassionate country.

“They tried to kick out an autistic Korean kid/family not long ago because treatment was too expensive,” he said, before making the controversial comment.

Wheeldon told HuffPost he had "no comment at this time."

The NDP headquarters in Ottawa did not return requests for comment.

Another NDP candidate from Quebec, Hans Marotte, a former well-known separatist, has also come under fire for comments he made supporting the first Palestinian intifada (uprising). The NDP declined to say whether leader Thomas Mulcair agreed with the comment but said Marotte believes in a two-state solution that includes a secure state for Israelis along a viable state for Palestinians.

Who needs history to repeat... again and again?

    They Thought They Were Free...

From Milton Mayer's book: They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45
"What no one seemed to notice," said a colleague of mine, a philologist, "was the ever widening gap, after 1933, between the government and the people.

    ....

"What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if the people could not understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

    ....

"This separation of government from people, this widening of the gap, took place so gradually and so insensibly, each step disguised (perhaps not even intentionally) as a temporary emergency measure or associated with true patriotic allegiance or with real social purposes. And all the crises and reforms (real reforms, too) so occupied the people that they did not see the slow motion underneath, of the whole process of government growing remoter and remoter.

    ....

"To live in this process is absolutely not to be able to notice it—please try to believe me—unless one has a much greater degree of political awareness, acuity, than most of us had ever had occasion to develop. Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained or, on occasion, ‘regretted,’ that, unless one were detached from the whole process from the beginning, unless one understood what the whole thing was in principle, what all these ‘little measures’ that no ‘patriotic German’ could resent must some day lead to, one no more saw it developing from day to day than a farmer in his field sees the corn growing. One day it is over his head.

"How is this to be avoided, among ordinary men, even highly educated ordinary men? Frankly, I do not know. I do not see, even now. Many, many times since it all happened I have pondered that pair of great maxims, Principiis obsta and Finem respice—‘Resist the beginnings’ and ‘Consider the end.’ But one must foresee the end in order to resist, or even see, the beginnings. One must foresee the end clearly and certainly and how is this to be done, by ordinary men or even by extraordinary men? Things might have. And everyone counts on that might.

    ....

"You see," my colleague went on, "one doesn’t see exactly where or how to move. Believe me, this is true. Each act, each occasion, is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join with you in resisting somehow. You don’t want to act, or even talk, alone; you don’t want to ‘go out of your way to make trouble.’ Why not?—Well, you are not in the habit of doing it. And it is not just fear, fear of standing alone, that restrains you; it is also genuine uncertainty.

... in your own community, you speak privately to your colleagues, some of whom certainly feel as you do; but what do they say? They say, ‘It’s not so bad’ or ‘You’re seeing things’ or ‘You’re an alarmist.’

"And you are an alarmist. You are saying that this must lead to this, and you can’t prove it. These are the beginnings, yes; but how do you know for sure when you don’t know the end, and how do you know, or even surmise, the end? On the one hand, your enemies, the law, the regime, the Party, intimidate you. On the other, your colleagues pooh-pooh you as pessimistic or even neurotic. You are left with your close friends, who are, naturally, people who have always thought as you have.

"But your friends are fewer now. Some have drifted off somewhere or submerged themselves in their work. You no longer see as many as you did at meetings or gatherings. Informal groups become smaller; attendance drops off in little organizations, and the organizations themselves wither. Now, in small gatherings of your oldest friends, you feel that you are talking to yourselves, that you are isolated from the reality of things. This weakens your confidence still further and serves as a further deterrent to—to what? It is clearer all the time that, if you are going to do anything, you must make an occasion to do it, and then you are obviously a troublemaker. So you wait, and you wait.

"But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes. That’s the difficulty. If the last and worst act of the whole regime had come immediately after the first and smallest, thousands, yes, millions would have been sufficiently shocked.... But of course this isn’t the way it happens. In between come all the hundreds of little steps, some of them imperceptible, each of them preparing you not to be shocked by the next. Step C is not so much worse than Step B, and, if you did not make a stand at Step B, why should you at Step C? And so on to Step D.

"And one day, too late.... and you see that everything, everything, has changed and changed completely under your nose. The world you live in—your nation, your people—is not the world you were born in at all. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves; when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. Now you live in a system which rules without responsibility even to God. The system itself could not have intended this in the beginning, but in order to sustain itself it was compelled to go all the way.

"You have gone almost all the way yourself. Life is a continuing process, a flow, not a succession of acts and events at all. It has flowed to a new level, carrying you with it, without any effort on your part. ...

Privacy must be redefined under international law to protect individuals from state or institutional intrusion of informational use in regards to public safety vs. individual expression and personal protections under law. Today institutional exploitation of individual information to foster corporate growth and protection of shareholders by far exceeds any reasonable need. What has happened in information age is fascist corporate desire to control consumers choice is now driving race for total information exploitation control. The IOS tech is the perfect exemple of what's going on right now.

What we now are experiencing is only the tip of iceberg to come crashing down on human liberties.

Canadian government's jihad against 'disbelieving Canadians'

    Joe Quinn
    Sott.net

At this stage of the great game, or farce, I'm resigned to the fact that the world is going to hell in a hand basket (as the saying goes) and nothing anyone says or does will change that. Admittedly, I don't know if hell exists, so the precise planetary conditions that await humanity are unknown to me, but there have been many suggestive signs and portents over the last few years.

The word 'hell' has an interesting etymology; it comes from an Indo-European root meaning 'to cover' or 'hide'. The word 'apocalypse', on the other hand, means 'to uncover' or 'reveal', which is weird, but strangely appropriate, because just about everything of real importance - all meaningful truth - in this world is hidden from most people, leading to a collective retardation of true human evolution and progress.

But if 'normal life' on this planet is hell, most people are having a ball, and will continue to do so, at least until the 'apocalypse'/uncovering, when the bare, naked truth gets dropped on humanity's collective doorstep and everyone freaks out and runs screaming to the nearest Walmart or FEMA camp for some familiar police-state succor.

Over the last 15 years, Western political types have repeatedly treated the human race's tendency towards open-minded positivity disorder (OMPD) with high doses of fear-mongering in an attempt to induce in them the, more desirable, disinhibited reactive attachment to authority disorder (DRAAD). One example of this, (among an overwhelming number of other examples), comes from the relatively new rabid authoritarian on the block, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

In January this year, the office of the Canadian PM released a fantastically jingoistic video that was worthy of a place in the nefarious propaganda hall of fame. In the video, which combines Harper's address to the Canadian parliament with a cornucopia of manipulative and militaristic images, Harper enthusiastically extols the vile virtues of ISIS and the delightful danger they pose to "disbelieving Canadians". Harper tells the Canadian people that ISIS will "attack them in any manner" and that they will "not feel secure even in our own homes" and then proceeds with a bellicose monologue full of bluff and bluster that really deserved to be accompanied by 'Ride of the valkyries'.

The interesting point for me, however, was his reference to "disbelieving Canadians", supposedly targeted for not subscribing to the Western caricature of Islam as represented by "ISIS", a gang of mercenaries created and financed primarily by the US government's best buddy in the Middle East - Saudi Arabia - whose rulers, like the psycho-mercenaries they employ, also enjoy chopping people's heads off for no good reason (not that Harper and Co. mind that!)

It's pretty obvious that the real 'disbelievers' targeted in Harper's propaganda missive are those Canadians that refuse to believe the crass 'terror threat' BS that issues forth on a daily basis from the Canadian department of war propaganda (aka the Canadian mainstream media), the primary purpose of which is to use a trumped-up threat about a gang of Saudi-created (and US-backed) mercenaries posing an existential threat to Canadians to scare Western populations into supporting Western government plunder and control of foreign nations.

But it's really only when you realise that the Canadian government and intelligence agency CSIS are playing a direct role in trafficking Westerners to fight with ISIS - so that the Canadian government can then use those jihadis to justify attacking Syria - that the real extent of Harper's hubris and lies is seen.

Note that Turkish elections happen two weeks after. Another pivot point election, with regard to fine tuning the agenda for the US election. To add, probably snap elections in Greece, for what it is worth.

Since joining I've received about thirty emails from every NDPer out there. Don't even read them, just delete them.
Made me wonder, is this what we are reduced to now. Being inundated by propaganda and wading through the bs. Bs is bs - it make no difference the color of the stripes.

I now see that none of these parties are suited to rule. They do not see what is happening and they do not see how to get out of it.

No matter who wins, we the people will lose. You just can't reverse all the damage that has been done over the years by the neocons. Their fascist takeover of our government agencies is nearly done - no newly elected government will touch those changes now because they are entrenched.

The Liberals are just business as usual - with their borrow more, spend more attitude. We know where that leads...

And Thomas Mulclaire is no Jack Layton...

Aren't others tired of choosing the lesser of two evils? I know I am.

People really are that apathetic, aren't they? Totally desensitized to the gradual rape of our civil liberties, our pristine forests, rivers, lakes and air. They are totally taken by their credit score, their favorite sports team, tv show, famous personality, sex, drugs, their physical appearance or yours, their children, their vacation, their jobs, their entitlements, their handouts. They have no time for aligning the future with the best interests of their children - let alone the planet.

I guess most just await their reward after they die...the perfect cop-out

    They Thought They Were Free...

From Milton Mayer's book: They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45
"What no one seemed to notice," said a colleague of mine, a philologist, "was the ever widening gap, after 1933, between the government and the people.

"What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if the people could not understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

    ...

"And one day, too late.... and you see that everything, everything, has changed and changed completely under your nose. The world you live in—your nation, your people—is not the world you were born in at all. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays.

Tired of grey pill by politicians, three young researchers from Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa decided to separate lies and truths and disseminate in English the results of their research on an independent, nonpartisan web site, Facts Canada.

Inspired from similar experiences in the United States, Italy, South Africa and elsewhere, the trio devised the project a year ago before turning to sociofinancement.

To choose the facts and statements to check, they are guided by their relevance, importance, novelty, their repetitive nature. They also accept suggestions of their readers.

A must in this grey campaign

By a good friend of mine on FB a living within spiritual truth...

As a Canadian, my vote is so functional that I should vote with more discretion, prudence, and scrutiny.

However, the so plentiful function of my vote can only be voted to one of the candidates who runs for the seat in the House of Commons which will be assigned to the winner in the constituency in which I live. No matter who is the possible winner, she or he has not much relation to me after the coming election, she or he will vote in the House of Commons on the will of the leader of her or his party, not on the will of me, not on the will of these voters who vote for her or him in the constituency where I live, not on the will of all the voters in the constituency where I live, and even not on the will of herself or himself.

Should I vote in the coming election for such a person? As she or he votes in the House of Commons, she or he ignores her or his own will, ignores my will, ignores the will of the voters in the last election who made her or him elected, ignores the will of the voters in the next election she or he will asks for support, ignores her or his own will, and only obey the will of the party leader for fearing punish from the leader, or fearing expected award not from the leader.

The chances that the Conservatives will win a majority are not great. The chances the Conservatives will win the most seats and be able to form a governement is likely well under 50%. In both of these instances the likely outcome will be that Stephen Harper will resign as party leader and vacate his seat.

Avoid a by-election vote for the candidate that will sit the full term in this riding and represent the interest of the riding. Save the taxpayer the extra cost of a by-election. Imo
