I looked on the link and it doesn't say anything about a Montauk Monster.
Where did this person get the idea that that's what it is?

It looks like a hairless sloth. You can see the hair/fur further down the body on the left side, of the top photo.

and I can see the sloth's claw(s) on one arm....in the same photo. right side of the image.

"Sloths are the six species of medium-sized mammals belonging to the families Megalonychidae and Bradypodidae, part of the order Pilosa. They are arboreal residents of the rainforests of Central and South America."

Strangest looking Sloth ive ever seen hairless or not. And those teenagers that beet it to death (allegedly) should be ashamed of themselves no matter what it is!

I've seen this picture before, it did the rounds circulating as a viral image, and I'm afraid it seems to be a theme borne out at least in practice that the numbers required for something to 'go viral' are generally not interested in anything of actual importance.

Personally, I believe it is a sloth without hair, the face and claws are very sloth-like.

Imagine, beating something to death simply because it was unknown... I'd not like to be a stranger in those parts... shame most people are like that.

Why must people always beat up things they are afraid of? So much aggression.

They should be charged with animal cruelty.

    It's a sloth, not a monster.

Are people getting dumber everyday to where they can't tell what certain animals are?

Beating things one's afraid of poses the same problem as racism. I say to racists that if they never allow themselves to interact with people of other races or they race they've earmarked for some reason, they will never experience goodness from those people, and so they'll never have a reason to change their opinion. The person scared of spiders never gives himself reason to lose his phobia until he takes the first, brave step of treating with them on a different front.

Still, "non-racist" people rarely become racist, and courageous people rarely become cowards, but racists can lose their prejudice and cowards can overcome their fear. Overtime, these things will thankfully dissipate, since neither has the moral/spiritual or intellectual rectitude to propagate its neurosis among the aware.

If people like this get you down, timerty, be grateful that you find something wrong in it; in finding something wrong in it you mark yourself as a refuge of compassion and (un)common sense, a safe-haven for thoughts and ideas that will await the awakening of those not yet blessed by them.

Yes, Marcelo it is a sloth. Young men captured the beast and they boil it into water, so the fur is easily taken off. I've seen the same done to cats. It is indeed cruel, but certainly nothing to do with Montauk.

This story broke in Sept of 2009 and went viral very quickly then.
An unidentified creature reportedly bashed to death by scared teenagers in Panama has become the subject of intense speculation on internet forums.
The alien-looking animal was reportedly spotted by the teenagers crawling out of a cave in Cerro Azul, north of Panama City, according to the local Telemetro network.
The hairless creature has been described as having rubbery skin and measuring almost 150cm.
The teenagers were said to have feared for their own safety as the creature moved towards them so they picked up rocks and sticks and beat it to death.
The youths tossed the carcass into a nearby lake but later returned to take photographs, the report said.
The tale has generated great interest in online cryptozoology forums and in the media, where the mystery creature has been given several monikers including ''Gollum'' to the ''New Montauk Monster''.
One popular theory cited a hooked claw visible in one of the photographs as possible evidence the creature was a sloth that had just lost its hair.
But the identity of the animal remains speculative and the carcass has not been viewed by any scientific experts, according to reports.
The discovery has drawn comparisons with photographs taken of another mystery creature — the so-called ''Montauk Monster'' — which supposedly washed up in New York in 2008.
The photos received widespread media attention but the carcass was never found, prompting speculation the discovery was a hoax.

The sloth was not beaten to death:

A few days after the photographs were taken, one of the teenagers gave a different account in an interview with Telemetro Reporta, saying:

Quote "I was in the river and I felt something grabbing my legs ... We took it out of the water and started throwing rocks and sticks at it. We had never seen anything like that."
The creature's corpse was recovered four days after the encounter, and a biopsy was performed by the National Environmental Authority of Panama (ANAM). The biopsy concluded that the corpse was in fact a male brown-throated sloth, a species common in the area.

André Sena Maia, a veterinarian who works at Niterói Zoo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, explained that "most people know how a dead animal looks like in a dry environment", and claimed that "the body must have got stuck under the water, and the movement of the currents gave the false impression that it was alive." A necropsy revealed that severe trauma had been inflicted on the body of the sloth, and Melquiades Ramos, a specialist from the ANAM Department of Protected Areas, estimated that the body had been in the water for "about two days" prior to discovery.

The hairlessness was probably caused by the fact it was submerged in water, which can lead to acceleration of fur loss, resulting in smooth skin. A post-mortal bloating further contributed to the unusual appearance of the corpse. After the sloth was identified, its body was buried by ANAM staff.
