Hey, Octavusprime, how did you get to post that without the perfunctoral 10 digit minimum additional text? Is it because of your footnote?

And then there is the Christianity Meme.
The living, but unconscious player in human affairs.

    • Christianity is a meme - a mind virus that lives in the minds of people and is spread through proselytization and other means.

    • Christianity is a meme about God, but it has no other connection to God.

    • The Christianity Meme has been shaped purely by natural selection--the law of survival of the fittest--as it has played out in human minds. It is a sophisticated product of cultural evolution.

    • Being a "true Christian" infected by the Christianity Meme will subject you to aid its survival through its adaptations that allow it to exert control over human behavior.

    • As a consequence, the more Christian you are the more you are prone to certain kinds of immoral behavior. The Christianity Meme is not bound by the moral principles it carries.

I had perceived this thread as place to discuss what the social engineering implications are regarding the use of memes, i.e. how memes are created to thought control the Mass Consciousness.

It appears the OP of this thread didn't intend it as a place for debate. Most among us are confused about what a meme actually is.

As I perceive it, this thread is just another useless adventure into the reality of social networking. Some of those posting in this thread are collecting cute images for the purpose of passing-on the cute image as a tool of social networking, i.e., something to keep the mindless chatter going, in the social networking world. (maybe so they don't have to think about the hard facts of reality)

While, I see a real meme as a thought system that has been created to influence the way the Mass Consciousness of Humanity perceives the reality we are all collectively creating.

Meanwhile, the world chatters-away, like hens in a chicken yard, mindlessly repeating these memes in the form of social networking gadgets, as the Master Controllers are esoterically feeding on the Masses in obscene fashion.

It will never end as long as most believe, "there is a bright new dawn.... just over the horizon".

What am I doing about it, personally, EarthLink?

I'm attempting to show how we are all being subtlety mind controlled, and most don't even realize it.

So, here's my meme of record:

    "chickens for the slaughter."

My intent with the use of meme's here is simple. What they do, is very abruptly sometimes, say so much in just a few words. For example, I could right now write a dialogue here with thousands and thousands of words, I could insert links to other sites and other pages. I could reference gobs of what is known as empirical data. I could post links to videos that are anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 or more hours in length. I could do a mass production, on one central idea or theme.

Or, I could just post this one meme. What I'm effectively doing, is pointing out that we are smart enough these days to bypass so much, and that our ability to comprehend things has improved over time and will continue to improve over time. That's it, that's the just of this thread. Say more by saying less, but say the less with the most.

Or this. Again, I could write out an entire long schpeel over this, with empirical evidence and all of that, or, just this one meme to sum it all up. I went looking for this one, and found much more from the Red Shield. "If my sons didn't want war, there wouldn't be war" said one of them.

Since the title of this thread is "Meme World", I'd like to mention that there is a Science of Memetics.

Here is shown again, what a MEME actually is.

    From the article:
    The Evolution of Meme Machines
International Congress on Ontopsychology and Memetics
    Milan, May 18-21 2002

    by Susan Blackmore

I'm offering a few paragraphs here . For the full publication read:

    http://www.susanblackmore.co.uk/Conf.../Ontopsych.htm

Quote The science of memetics faces a serious problem. The concept of the meme emerged from evolutionary biology and the theory of replicators, and within this context it is well understood, if highly controversial.
But out on the web, and in popular discourse, the word ‘meme’ is horribly abused. It is confused with ‘idea’ or ‘concept’ or treated as something ethereal or non-material floating about quite separate from behaviours and artefacts.

No one can prevent people from using the term ‘meme’ in these other ways, but the power of the idea may be lost, and much confusion may be generated. So I hope that it may be helpful for me to outline the origins of memetics and the basic concept of the meme as a replicator in an evolutionary process.
Quote By 1998 the term had entered the English language and first appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary, defined as follows; Meme (mi:m), n. Biol. (shortened from mimeme ... that which is imitated, after GENE n.) “An element of a culture that may be considered to be passed on by non-genetic means, esp. imitation”.
This means that whatever is copied from person to person is a meme.

Everything you have learned by copying it from someone else is a meme; every word in your language, every catch-phrase or saying. Every story you have ever heard, and every song you know, is a meme. The fact that you drive on the left (or perhaps the right), that you drink lager, think sun-dried tomatoes are passé, and wear jeans and a T-shirt to work are memes. The style of your house and your bicycle, the design of the roads in your city and the colour of the buses - all these are memes.

There is nothing ethereal about these memes. They are the very behaviours and artefacts that fill our lives. They are whatever is copied.

We can see that much of culture consists of memes. However, it is easy to get carried away and think of all experiences as memes and this is not helpful.
We need instead to stick to a clear definition. The whole point of the meme is that it is information copied from one person to another. Therefore a great deal of what goes on in the human mind is nothing to do with memes. First, perception and visual memory need not involve memes. You can look at a beautiful scene, or taste a delicious meal, and remember them in detail without any memes being involved (unless you put words to your experience).
Quote Note that successful memeplexes were not deliberately designed by anyone, but were created by the process of memetic selection.
Presumably there have always been countless competing memes - whether religions, political theories, ways of curing cancer, clothes fashions, or musical styles - the point about memetic evolution is that the ones we see around us now are those that survived in the competition to be copied. They had what it takes to be a good replicator.
Quote Looked at from our point of view, we might see the Internet as wonderful technology created by us for our own pleasure and to make our lives easier.
Looked at from the meme’s eye view, we humans are the early meme machines that helped create better meme machines for the benefit of the memes themselves.
When you see an office full of people enslaved by the flood of memes they have to deal with – typing away all day – rushing to deal with yet more information – you might reasonably wonder who this is all for.
According to memetics, it is all a vast evolutionary process happening for the sake of replicating the memes. Today’s information explosion is just what we should expect.
So I followed EarthLink's advice: Say more by saying less, but say the less with the most. LOL

    * Emphasis, mine.

What is meant by memeplexes, see:
