Prince Salman convoy triggered Hajj stampede: Report

‘The presence of the convoy of the son of the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz
Al Saud in central Mina prompted the stampede that killed hundreds of pilgrims
on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca, a report says.

The Arabic-language daily al-Diyar said in a report on Thursday that the convoy
of Prince Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud played a central role in the deadly
crush on the third day of the annual Hajj pilgrimage earlier in the day.

The report said that Salman, who had sought to attend the huge gathering of
pilgrims in Mina, a large valley about five kilometers (three miles) from Mecca,
arrived at the site early on Thursday accompanied by a huge entourage.’

to block a United Nations proposal for a human rights investigation into the
country’s six-month-old military assault on Yemen—waged with the backing
of international powers including the United States.

President Barack Obama has so far remained silent on the resolution, which
was submitted by the Netherlands Thursday and calls for the UN Human
Rights Council to launch a probe into abuses committed by all parties.

The Dutch proposal requires the UN High Commissioner to “dispatch a mission,
with assistance from relevant experts, to monitor and report on the human rights
situation in Yemen.” In addition, the resolution calls for players to grant access to
humanitarian aid, in a clear reference to the Saudi-led and U.S.-backed naval

‘A Saudi airstrike in the Yemeni village of Bani Zela in the northwestern province of
Hjjah kills at least 25 civilians, mostly women and children, residents and medics say.

“People were fleeing their homes as the helicopters pursued, They committed a
massacre for no reason,” one resident, calling himself Khaled, said on Sunday.

Official reports said the attack targeted the Midi district’s Bani Zeila village in
Yemen’s Red Sea border area with Saudi Arabia.’

The UN has called the trial “short of international standards” and asked Saudi Arabia to halt the execution. Human rights groups including Amnesty International have alleged that Nirm was tortured and forced to confess to some of the charges.

The sentence of crucifixion likely means that Nimr is set to be beheaded before his body is displayed on a cross in a public place.

since the disaster.Officials from several countries have said that more than 1,000
people died in last week's stampede near Mecca during the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
A Nigerian official told the BBC 1,000 bodies of victims had been taken to morgues
in the city of Jeddah.Indian, Pakistani and Indonesian officials have also been
quoted as saying they think more than 1,000 died.

The Saudi authorities say 769 died in the crush and insist the higher figure is for all
deaths at this year's Hajj.Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that
Saudi authorities had released photos of 1,090 pilgrims who died. Pakistani and
Indonesian officials have also indicated that they have been sent more than 1,000
such images.A Saudi interior minister spokesman told AP that this number included
109 people who died at the Grand Mosque when a crane collapsed on 11
September and all other deaths at this year's pilgrimage, some of them from
natural causes.A Nigerian Hajj official from Kano, Abba Yakubu, told the BBC's

Mr Yakubu said that in total, 14 lorries loaded with bodies were brought to the city.
He added that so far 1,075 bodies had been offloaded from 10 lorries and taken

Thursday's stampede was the deadliest incident to hit the Hajj in 25 years.

The crush occurred on Thursday morning as two large groups of pilgrims converged
at right angles as they took part in the Hajj's last major rite - stone-throwing at
pillars called Jamarat, where Satan is believed to have tempted the Prophet Abraham.

As well as the fatalities, 934 people were injured.

Saudi Arabia's most senior cleric, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin-Abdullah al-
Sheikh, has defended the authorities, saying the stampede was "beyond human control".

King Salman has ordered a safety review into the disaster.

Report: King Salman Orders Concealing Mina CCTV Records

‘Saudi King Salman has ordered his forces to transfer all the images
recorded by the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras of the Hajj
stoning rituals in Mina to an unknown location to be hidden in a top
secret data center, media reports said on Sunday.

“The Saudi king’s order came after some videos showing the main
cause of the Mina tragedy were released on the Internet,” the
Arabic-language Middle East Panorama news website reported.

It noted that another reason for collecting the Mina CCTV captured
videos is related to a demand by the world Muslims and Hajj pilgrims
to set up an international fact-finding committee to probe into the
Hajj tragic incidents.

A stampede during one of the last rituals of the Hajj season killed more
than 2,000 people and left 2,000 wounded.’

131 civilians lost their lives and many more sustained injuries as
Saudi fighter jets hit the celebration in the Mokha port city,

network reported.

Hospital officials also said 70 women are among the victims of

Qatari sheikh buys UK oil firm in violation of Vienna Convention – report

‘Former prime minister of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani, bought an oil
company while enjoying diplomatic immunity guaranteed by the Vienna
Convention. This prohibits diplomats from profiting from “commercial activity.”

The sheikh acquired 80 percent of Heritage Oil, a London-listed exploration and
production company in April 2014. An article published in the Telegraph on
Wednesday says this was an abrogation of the sheikh’s diplomatic responsibilities.

In addition to serving as prime minister, Sheikh Hamad, one of Qatar’s richest men,
was also chief of the country’s sovereign wealth fund. He stepped down from his
government posts, when Qatar’s former emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani
abdicated the throne in 2013.’
