I cannot stop posting videos from Matt Kahn. His words were so amusing and pertinent to me today. I am loving how he explains things with a wry humor that makes me laugh...maybe someone will enjoy him too. Maggie

    The Divine Romance by Yogananda

A new look at origin & nature of cosmic creation

from page 27 from The Divine Romance by Yogananda.

"Everything here is nothing more than God's motion picture.
We are the players. We must play our parts well, but we must not identify ourselves too intensely with the drama.
Meditation shows us the way to this inner freedom. It is the only way by which we can realise that this world is a dream, that the Lord has created the entire cosmos out of His thought. So, though He created this dream earth, He has also shown the way to get out of it.

God's dream creation was not meant to frighten you, but prod you to realise finally that it has no reality. So why be afraid of anything."

This book was one of the first I read on spirituality that and "Autobiography of a Yogi"

"The Divine Romance" book is so full of devotion and love, if that is what moves you it is well worth purchasing.

    Chris

Ps. I bought the book over twenty years ago---where has the time gone.
I know less now than I did then---that's genuine progress--laughing.

Haha. I can still read the book from the start. Every time I read it, I discover something new.

    I am ignorant.
I know about the state called enlightenment
Yet I am ignorant because I do not know first hand through being that state.

This is why the mystics say it can not be spoken of, it is beyond description, or the mind to get it.

"When the questions concern the spiritual meaning of life, the spiritual techniques of communion, or the spiritual nature of man, and when they are strongly and earnestly felt, it is the pressure of the answer itself working upon the mind from within that is forcing the questions into the focus of attention. It may take years before the man can unite the two, however." - Paul Brunton

It's about being in harmony with everything. Driving, eating, sleeping and working can be done in harmony. It's about being in the moment and ignoring the wandering mind.

That's great. I still get caught in routine workload from time to time. Being deprived of sleep doesn't help to meditate. I slept twice during meditation this week.

Things just exist. We give a meaning to everything. I like the child analogy because a child lives in the moment and enjoys it. My 15 month baby calls everyone on the street when he walks. He likes everyone and wants to interact with everyone. There's no mental block at this age. This is what it means to go back to the source.

Just wanted to say, that the last few posts are very important.
Surrender to every situation that arises, dont give them a meaning, stay in the moment, see the synchronisities, knowing that nothing can harm your true essence-be happy.
That is the 24 hour meditation...after some time you automatically behave like it and then miracles will happen.
All the best on your journey!

    Time for a new koan:

      Everything Is Best

When Banzan was walking through a market he overheard a conversation between a butcher and his customer.

"Give me the best piece of meat you have," said the customer.

"Everything in my shop is the best," replied the butcher. "You cannot find here any piece of meat that is not the best."

At these words Banzan became enlightened.

One day there was an earthquake that shook the entire Zen temple. Parts of it even collapsed. Many of the monks were terrified. When the earthquake stopped the teacher said, "Now you have had the opportunity to see how a Zen man behaves in a crisis situation. You may have noticed that I did not panic. I was quite aware of what was happening and what to do. I led you all to the kitchen, the strongest part of the temple. It was a good decision, because you see we have all survived without any injuries. However, despite my self-control and composure, I did feel a little bit tense - which you may have deduced from the fact that I drank a large glass of water, something I never do under ordinary circumstances."

One of the monks smiled, but didn't say anything.

"What are you laughing at?" asked the teacher.

"That wasn't water," the monk replied, "it was a large glass of soy sauce."

    A major challenge is identification.
I am a seeker of enlightenment --I am a Christian---I am a Buddhist-- any statement that has I, me and mine, is, self; personal identification which is duality.

Don't be so quick to believe in the mind’s projections.
    You are not the mind.
    Don't come under its spell.
The mind is a great magician.
It has hypnotised 7 billion human beings.
In the realm of personhood, it is full of tricks and has the power to make a lot of mischief, confusion, distortion and delusion.
But yours is a greater power. It is the power of the pure Self.
The power to observe with detachment, to recognise that all phenomena are transient appearances and that oneself is the formless witness—timeless and ever-perfect.

Nothing is you. Your name was given by your parents. Your job description was provided by your workplace. Your arguments were created by knowledge grasped since birth. What are you? Nothing. Realizing I'm nothing is everything.

Usually my wife gets bored and asks me to keep quiet when I start reflecting on this.

I've been more reflective since the birth of my son. It seems to have triggered my growth. I really observe the way I behave and tell myself that I need to get more detached to things. My wife thinks that I'll abandon them and live as a hermit in the future. She really believes this will happen. Poor soul..It's been great talking to you.

    Cheers,

Ignorant of my true nature?...Your true nature runs out the corners of the monitor
and puddles up on my desk when i read your posts. hehe

It comes through the words of all you write and rings like a hundred foot bell.

No the "i" will never recognize it but there is surely something in you that does.

It's like a tree saying i can't see the forest for the trees....Would someone bring a chainsaw
and get some of these trees out of the way so i can find it.

Saint Francis of Assisi " What is looking is what you're looking for"....backward but still means the same thing.

It's like a good joke but we're forgetting to laugh.

Here's Mike Snider, funny but with a lot of meat.

    Hi Barry
I only heard Mike Snider once before--he was standing in for Adyashanti---and was hilarious and right on the button regarding enlightenment.

Thanks for your kind comments--knowing about, is unfortunately not it.
Though I believe I am That---proof would be appreciated.
    However.
Ramesh jokingly said "If you have the choice of £1million or enlightenment, take the money"---meaning there is no one left to enjoy or appreciate the money if enlightenment occurs---- You could say enjoyment happens but no one is left to personally enjoy it
The me/self is replaced by Self.
See its all a pardox --its a joke on the mind.

    Best wishes
    Chris
