This concentrates on the third crusade , that is touched on at the end of
the vid above. Saladin had captured Jerusalem and the Roman Catholic
church were calling for its recapture. The Kings of France , England ,
Archduke of Austria and Emperor Frederick Barbarossa , who would
have led the crusade died on the way to the Holy land and most of his
army returned to Europe. This left Richard of England as leader a great
warrior and good commander , but not a good statesman. Like the
first crusade he allowed massacres of muslim captives and although he
had initial success , was unable to recapture Jerusalem , and left
the holly land bloodier but still mainly in Saladin's control although
there were still areas controlled by Christian barons and the crusades
continued over the next 100 years , until 1291 and the fall of Acre .
The eventual fall of Constantinople in 1453 , was the height of Muslim
conquest and conflicts between the religions have carried
on till today one way or another.

Saladin was born of Kurdish parents , which is quite topical today.
He was a very experienced war lord and general and recaptured
Jerusalem for Islam. But when he captured the city he did not
massacre the Christians and his legend hit new heights.

This documentary has input from scholars from both sides.

The Third Crusade: Saladin & Richard the Lionheart Documentary

    Uploaded on 6 Apr 2011

Saladin and Richard the Lionheart are two names that tend to dominate the
Crusades. Both have gone down in Medieval history as great military leaders
though their impact was limited to the Third Crusade.

I love this movie! Visually rich and the music is fantastic.

Maybe it would be helpful for Western people to read the history of the crusades, the ghastly brutality of the crusaders, to understand somewhat the terrible brutality of some middle eastern factions now. Persia was a place of invention, of culture, of great learning. The crusades, in my opinion, changed all that.

I know a little bit about middle eastern history. Love to hear from those who have really studied the area.

Yeah, maybe it is time for everybody to realize what actually happened with the crusades, so we can be done with the disinfo about the brutal crusaders:
