"People thought for many years that we would breed ourselves out of existence. They thought we'd produce so many children, there would be no standing room left on the planet. But now it seems our population will peak. And that's an optimistic message.

The evidence shows women are already not having enough children to replace themselves. We may as well wake up and smell the coffee and begin focusing on how to live sustainably with the number of people we will have in the next century."

Gerhard Heilig, chief of population estimates and projections section at the UN:

"Empirical data from 230 countries since 1950 shows that the great majority have fertility declines. Globally, the fertility rate is falling to the "replacement level" — 2.1 children per woman, the rate at which children replace their parents.

If the global fertility rate does indeed reach replacement level by the end of the century, then the human population will stabilize between 9 billion and 10 billion. As far as Earth's capacity is concerned, we'll have gone about as far as we can go, but no farther."

There is also more openness about, and tolerance towards the conscious choice to remain childless, which appears to be trending.
Unfortunately, I only caught the announcement, and missed the actual documentary, so until I can find it, I hope others will fill in.

Here is a thought. Fertility declining may be related to being plummeted with hormonal disruptions at the cell wall. We see a decline in health balance regardless of the pumped up version of body fit and gyms and weight lifting and marathons. Our worst patients are athletics. They push the body to the limits and have synthetic hormones on board, thyroid issues with drugs for that, acne, kidneys yelling help, and all the working out cost them. The wanna be Moms still take in vaccines, antibiotics for every bump in the road, have old old issues of ill health at the cellular level since childhood, and lets not forget about their genetics, their Mom and grandmother. Did they live or visit in a foreign country when Chernobyl or Fukushima blew? ( We have several of those) Fertility also relates to the Daddy to be. Does he smoke pot when he is on the fishing boat? Or maybe breathing in toxic air as a firefighter? Or is in the tool and dye industry or lives in airplanes or drinks diet coke nonstop? The list is too long to print here but we as a nation, world, have forgotten ourselves and how we have destroyed the DNA complex. We teach that the Mitochondria of the cell has its own DNA and it gets it from Mother. There is so much to learn and know and we have barely tapped the toxic issues. So infertility i.e. depopulation agenda, has struck a chord with women. When they adopt, the children that were abandoned may already have the unspeakable ill health from a Mother who could not tolerate being a caregiver.
