There are MANY problems with the 3 Gorges Dam (as there were with many other of the now failed dams in China) so even if the photos are distorted, it doesn't mean the reports about all the dangers are false.
(For one thing, it was built very near fault lines.)
Reports about the Dam are few now that the CCP has made it a crime for citizens to report on it.
But this report spelled it out:

I found this current (7/7/20) report with a forecast from Asian Financial Times:
    https://www.asiatimesfinancial.com/a...climate-change
Over the past five weeks many parts of China have experienced severe flooding, including historic 100-year highs. At least 24 provinces and cities have suffered extreme events, which have left at least 20 million homeless and damage estimated at 50 to 100 billion yuan ($7-14 billion).
Last month the flooding was threatening the Three Gorges Dam. Now, the 'threat' has now moved from the upper Yangtze to major conurbations on the lower Yangtze.

Cities such as Wuhan and Chongqing are under water. Chongqing alone had at least 495,000 emergency rescues and evacuations.

Meanwhile, major agricultural provinces have been swamped and many communities are cut off because of damaged roads, bridges that were washed away and landslides. Conditions are still critical, so it is difficult to assess the full extent of damage to crops, plus business supply chains and industry.

Researchers quoted by Sina.com quoted climate researchers who said the disastrous flooding followed very bad flooding in 1998 and 2016. They said the increase and scale of major flood events has its roots in climate change.

China also had a severe drought in 2011. Chinese scientists blame this phenomenon on the El Nino effect. El Niño has become more frequent. In 2018, research published in Nature by the Qingdao Marine Science and Technology Pilot National Laboratory, said that under the greenhouse effect, the variability of the El Niño phenomenon in the eastern Pacific increased by 15%, causing extreme El Niño events of 50% of cases.

China Central TV News, which is state media, reported earlier that due to heavy rainfall in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the amount of water entering the Three Gorges Reservoir had continued to increase.

Torrential downpours caused this flood in Xiangxi in central Hunan province, with water rushing into a depression under an urban overpass and blocking major transportation on June 29, 2020. Photo: Guo Liliang / Imaginechina via AFP

On June 29, the Three Gorges Dam opened two large sluice gates to increase the discharge flow and free up storage capacity to meet flood conditions. Before the announcement of the gates being officially opened, the inflow into the Three Gorges Reservoir was 39,000 cubic meters per second, and the water level was 147.51 meters. That meant the water level exceeded the flood limit by 2.51 meters.

Today, July 7, The Peoples Daily quoted the head of the National Defence General Office as saying it was expected that from July to August, northern China would receive more of the overall rainfall than southern provinces, with more areas waterlogged than dry. Most of the northeast and north, plus Huanghuai, western Inner Mongolia, and most of the northwest would have heavy precipitation, which may cause heavy floods.

The upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River, the Haihe River Basin, the Songhua River Basin, and the Huaihe River Basin may face heavier floods, it said, while most of Hunan, northwestern Guangxi, and Guizhou would get more rain, and floods may occur in the middle reaches of the Yangtze.

The precipitation in eastern Inner Mongolia, the upper reaches of Hanshui, the northeast and west of the southwest, and northern Xinjiang may be low, and with sporadic dry spells, it said."

But the official coverup of fatalities, damage, dangers is not new to China, to "save face" for the CCP, so statistics are unreliable.

(THIRTY FIVE MORE DAYS OF RAIN predicted for China in this video report )

"CCP officials are told to prepare for global crisis—including tensions with the United States, food shortages, currency wars, and others—and are being told to prepare “countermeasures”

Zhou Li, the former deputy minister of the CCP’s Central Liaison Department, tied to its political warfare programs, recently issued an article in China Social Science News stating “The Party Central Committee demands that our leading cadres at all levels ‘should adhere to the bottom line thinking and make a long-term ideological preparation and work preparation for responding to changes in the external environment."’

And a 400-year-old bridge was destroyed by the floods in Shanxi Town in Anhui, China, which had been built during the Ming Dynasty. The destruction of the second largest stone arch bridge in the region was one of the latest scenes in the ongoing floods in 26 provinces and cities in China. And in HuangShan, AnHui, JingdeZhen, ShangRao, Yichang, Changyang, and other parts of China the heavy rains continue to collapse roads and destroy homes.

These stories and more in this episode of Crossroads."

Record cold in the mesosphere causing noctilucent clouds in mid latitudes

    by Robert July 11, 2020

“It’s getting cold in the mesosphere. Very cold,” wrote Dr. Tony Phillips in early June.
This development is causing noctilucent clouds (NLCs) to spill out of the Arctic to middle latitudes.

“I’ve been waiting for years to see NLCs (noctilucent clouds), and finally it happened!” reported Phil Halpert from London, England. He noticed their electric-blue ripples over local rooftops, then rushed out to photograph them over Clissold Park.

“2020 is shaping up to be a cold and wet year in the mesosphere,” says Lynn Harvey of the University of Colorado Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics.

“Temperatures, in particular, are very cold,” says Harvey. “In fact, mid-latitude temperatures (35N-55N) in late May (DOY 142-148) were the coldest of the AIM record”–that is, since 2007 when NASA’s AIM spacecraft began monitoring noctilucent clouds.
I have no idea what this means to us down here on the surface of the planet, do you?

Enhanced risk for severe weather was set for the day and storms began to explode along the front just north of Thedford, Nebraska around 6pm CST. As the boundaries began to enhance and collide with the southern edge, it spun up this incredible land spout tornado in the sand hills of central nebraska.

First clip is the initial funnel observed from the town of Thedford. Second clip is the full land spout as is turned in the open space and about 3 minutes in you get a closer view of the horseshoe like funnel rotating towards the middle, followed some more rotation from the land spout.

    NATURAL DISASTERS
China warns of 'stronger flood' as Three Gorges Dam faces swell
Economy seen taking $12bn hit amid steady recovery

Quote SHANGHAI -- Chinese authorities warned on Friday of the arrival of a "stronger" flood at the Three Gorges Dam and issued new alerts in downstream cities, as more rains are expected in the coming days.

Cities in the country's central region along the Yangtze River -- China's longest river -- have been inundated in the past week amid the annual monsoon season, with the worst flooding since 1998. Across the country, 433 rivers have flooded, and 141 people have died or are missing.

Heavy downpours have been lashing the region since last month, pushing average rainfall 12% higher than last year. The economic damage from flooding is expected to reach 86.2 billion yuan ($12 billion), according to some estimates.

This comes as China's economy just swung back into positive territory in the second quarter. The government announced Wednesday that it will spend about 1.7 billion yuan on measures to deal with the floods.

At the Three Gorges Dam, a multifunctional facility on the Yangtze River that includes flood prevention, upstream flooding is expected to cause a swell of water reaching 55,000 cubic meters per second at 8 p.m. local time on Friday, higher than the warning level of 50,000 cubic meters, according to the Changjiang Water Resources Commission.

Quote This will be stronger than this year's first peak of 53,000 cubic meters recorded on July 2. Dam authorities had already discharged water on June 29 in anticipation of the flood. They maintained that flooding which came after that in downstream cities was not caused by the discharge but was rather due to poor drainage systems.

Despite the dam reaching a new flooding record this year, authorities have yet to indicate whether they will release more water in the coming days. However, residents in the central city Wuhan and provinces of Anhui, Jiangxi and Zhejiang, some of the places downstream of the dam that have been most severely hit by the water levels this year, received a red alert on Friday, the highest level on a four-tier weather warning system.

At least 44 million people have been reportedly evacuated so far this year, partly due to poor flood prevention measures as local governments allocated their resources to curb a rebound in the coronavirus pandemic.

Quote The country's economy grew by 3.2% in the April to June period, unexpectedly stronger than the 6.8% contraction recorded in the previous quarter. The government said on Thursday that a steady economic recovery in the first half laid a solid foundation for sustained growth in the second half.

But with continued rain expected in the coming week, economists have warned of "imminent risk" from widespread floods that could impede the fledgling recovery.

"The floods have been so widespread that infrastructure projects will be delayed as the majority of schemes are related to construction activities," ING Group said in a research report on Thursday.

Well its definitely been an interesting year of storms in Alberta Canada this year ... almost daily we are getting severe thunderstorm watches and warnings ... luckily none of the bigger ones have hit the city directly since the one posted back a few pages ...

And to make an addition on that previous storm, the damages have been tallied to over $1.2 billion dollars - calculated by the insurance claims it cost. It was the most severe thunderstorm (by damage $ value), in Canadian history and Canada's 3rd worst natural disaster ever (again based on dollar value -- I don't think any lives were lost)

Here's some photos of a system that was developing just SE of Calgary yesterday evening -- and luckily it moved east to sparsely populated areas ...

The thunder that this storm produced last night, sounded like a 747 was taking off nearby ... but instead of taking off, it was just hovering nearby for an hour ... there was literally no time between one thunder boom and the next -- it was a constant rolling and crackling bass sound ...

Made for some spectacular visuals though!

Conditions in China are worse than most reports are letting on, and while some reports are anti-China propaganda from outside of China, others are pro-Chinese Communist Party from inside China

Red alerts issued for Wuhan and surrounding provinces.

Rex also presents precipitation forecasts for much of Asia as well as placement of nuclear reactors.

Chinese authorities blow up dam to release floodwaters
Three Gorges Dam sees biggest flood of year so far

Quote TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chinese authorities on Sunday (July 19) blasted a dam on a river in eastern Anhui Province to discharge floodwaters, while the vaunted Three Gorges Dam was hammered with the biggest flood of the year so far.

Communist China's state-run mouthpiece CCTV announced that a dam on the Chuhe River was blown up in order to "alleviate the pressure of flood control" at 2:49 a.m. on Sunday. As waters climbed to historic highs, two successive explosions punctured two holes in the dam in Chuzhou, Quanjiao County, allowing the muddy Chuhe River to pour into flood storage ponds below.

Prior to the blast, the water level at Zhongmiao Station in Chaohu reached 12.83 meters in the morning, surpassing the historic high of 12.80 meters recorded in 1991. A total of 35 rivers and lakes in Anhui alone had reported high water marks exceeding danger levels by noon Saturday (July 18), including the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers, reported China's government-operated Xinhua.

The breaching of the dams is expected to lower the water level of the Chuhe River by 70cm, according to the state-run voicebox Global Times. Deliberately exploding dams and embankments was a tactic used during the massive floods seen in 1998, and it appears that the government is resorting to this practice again as the floodwaters across China this year are already matching or exceeding the levels seen 22 years ago.

Meanwhile, the second major flood of the year was declared on the Yangtze River on Friday (July 17), with the inflow into the Three Gorges Dam reaching 61,000 cubic meters per second by 8 a.m. Saturday. On Sunday evening at 8 p.m., the inflow into the dam dropped by 15,000 cubic meters per second to 46,000.

Xinhua that day then declared that the flood "passed through the Three Gorges Dam smoothly." This was the largest flood to hit the dam so far during this year, with the facility accumulating a total of 14 billion cubic meters of floodwater during this flood season, according to the China Three Gorges Corporation.
