Well Im still surprised about this thread, but no worries, im going to do my part, will be leaving here in a couple hours with wood, barrels for hauling water, propane, thermal socks and underwear, tobacco and a wood stove... hope more of Avalon will find this thread, and choose to participate in any way you can and bring attention to what could be one step in the staircase of change...

Federal judge has dropped the restraining order on the water protectors, and the construction around the Missouri river is halted till January when there will be a hearing about it...

Today, Native Americans held a protest rally where I live. I joined them and spent the day waving signs and marching. The local tribes have, and still are, collecting donations to help the cause. There is already a truck with with some supplies and stuff headed up to the Dakota's. Tribes all across the US are joining in.
    We do what we can.
I am enlightened, ............ Oh wait. That's just the police shining their spotlights on me.

Standing Rock Sioux Testifies About DAPL Before United Nations in Geneva
    ICTMN Staff
    9/21/16

Standing Rock Sioux Chairman David Archambault II called on the United Nations on Tuesday to halt construction of the Dakota Access oil pipeline through tribal treaty territory and formally invited United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Victoria Tauli-Corpuz to visit the reservation.

“I am here because oil companies are causing the deliberate destruction of our sacred places and burials,” he told the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva on September 20. “Dakota Access wants to build an oil pipeline under the river that is the source of our nation’s drinking water. This pipeline threatens our communities, the river and the earth. Our nation is working to protect our waters and our sacred places for the benefit of our children not yet born.”

Speaking at the 33rd Session of the U.N. Human Rights Council, which runs from September 13 through 30, Archambault outlined the ways in which the pipeline and the treatment of water protectors by the company’s employees had violated the protectors’ human rights.

“Thousands have gathered peacefully in Standing Rock in solidarity against the pipeline,” he said in a statement from the tribe afterward. “And yet many water protectors have been threatened and even injured by the pipeline’s security officers. One child was bitten and injured by a guard dog.
We stand in peace but have been met with violence.”

That was on September 3, the day that Dakota Access employees bulldozed a two-mile-long, 150-foot-wide swathe in the exact spot that Standing Rock officials had said contained burial grounds and sacred items. Archambault also referred to the treaties signed in 1851 and 1868 that promised to respect the tribe’s sovereignty.

“Our lives and our rights are threatened by Energy Transfer Partners,” said Archambault, alluding to Dakota Access LLC's parent company. “This company has shown total disregard for our rights and our sacred sites.”
He and other tribal leaders are in Geneva to meet with U.N. ambassadors over the next two days and take part in panel discussions about the rights of Indigenous Peoples, the tribe said. Archambault also briefed Tauli-Corpuz on the issues and invited her to visit the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and the construction site.

There, she could speak to youth and elders “and witness for yourself the urgent situation and threats we are facing so that you are able to make informed recommendations to the United States about how to resolve this situation in a way that respects our rights as Indigenous Peoples,” Archambault said in his formal written invitation to the rapporteur.

The chairman had sent an urgent appeal to the United Nations in August in conjunction with the International Indian Treaty Council, alleging that construction was being undertaken in the absence of free, prior and informed consent—a cornerstone of the U.N. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The U.N. Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues weighed in soon afterward, chastising the U.S. for ignoring tribal nations.

RELATED: UN Permanent Forum Rebukes U.S. for Ignoring Standing Rock and Other Tribal Nations

“The world needs to know what is happening to the Indigenous Peoples of the United States,” said Archambault in his statement to the U.N. “This pipeline violates our treaty rights and our human rights, and it violates the U.N.’s own Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. I hope the U.N. will use its influence and international platform to protect the rights of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.”

Default Re: Standing Rock, Dakota Pipeline Protests...Who's gonna participate?

The Saganing Indian Chippewa Tribe of Michigan went to support this movement of the Souix Nation. I'm all for upholding treaty law, protecting human rights and the ancestral lands of indigenous people.

However, some of these people are so petty! I'm not a tribal member but I grew up with more Native American's than I did my own white peers for quite awhile. I grew up going to their center, their funerals, their council member's homes! When the Tribe developed on their land trust holdings, for a casino, then hired everyone applicable in my neighborhood. Literally, just about everyone who was interested. Granted, this is a very small beach resort community in Northern Michigan, not Detroit. Still, my older peers all were gainfully employed. My father, whom was already retried, even worked for them part time 5 years! Then it became well to do for me to work for them. Honestly, all I got was doors closed in my face. The first couple interviews were great but then I interviewed with a food service manager named Christopher. This guy had a great attitude, we shook hands, smiled, etc. (he was not a native). Since this local establishment (casino) of the Tribe is only just down the road from my house, 1 mile away, it's very convenient that I work there. As I'm a local, Hell I helped take down the old buildings on the site of the new development. There could be no better candidate than me. I worked in a very busy movie theater 26 miles away and had plenty of stellar references that already had jobs there. The only way Christopher chose not to hire me, so I thought, was that a Native American was chosen first via Tribal preference law. Just as it happened, I frequented the casino to double, triple or sometimes even quadruple my meager paycheck from being an usher/cashier. Usually, by way of the roulette. Also to board the public transit bus from the neighboring county to the South that stops there. One day, perhaps a week or two after my interview with food service manager Chris, I find him walking about the place. I stop with a warm smile and greet him. We smile, shake hands. I begin to discuss his duties as my interviewer and hiring manager. Eventually, I asked if "they" were going to put me to work. He said no, "we" decided to go with someone else. Now I told him that I understood and that I also knew I can reapply for other positions. This was my third interview for a third separate position. Bartender, no. Maintenance, 3rd choice for the job requisition! Food service . . . or so I thought. Then I asked him if he made his decision according to preference law to see if that was the reason I wasn't chosen but no he couldn't tell me that information. I very calmly and politely go on to inform him of my opinion that he has made a mistake because I'm the right man for the job. I expressed to him how living on the reservation all my life makes me practically a member of the tribe. We smiled, shook hands and we thanked each other before leaving. Now, it wasn't until months (I repeat: MONTHS) later, I'm in the casino. I just broke a fresh bill on the roulette table. Casino security approaches me and asks me to go with them to the entrance. I instantly knew what that was about. There I was informed of the Tribe's decision to banish me for life from all property belonging to the Saganing Indian Chippewa Tribe, both on and off the Isabella Indian Reservation. Why? For my "conduct" there! They violated my human rights not to be subjected to undue hardship! They violated my right to equal opportunity. I could appeal this, over a year has come to pass but why? Why did they do it in the first place? Ignorance, pure hypocritical ignorance. Maybe I will appeal it so I can remain blissfully ignorant of the past. Why though? I deserve employment, the largest employer in the whole county, on the same block as me, and I have had to leave 70 miles, one way in three different counties just to find work. Barely more than $1,000 a month. I quit working because I can't afford to go to work! 5 years in the work force and I can't continue accepting menial pay for my tremendous efforts. I won't.
That being said, maybe I'll go protest with these Standing Rock Souix in protest of those helping them protest.

So last night when i shared the photobucket I didn't realize it was set to private, it is now set to public for anyone interested in seeing my photos of the Standing Rock Sacred Camp in North Dakota .... Im feeling very disheartened by the lack of interest on Project Avalon about this situation more then the lack of coverage by Mass Media... Obama has allegedly gave the go ahead to the same company to build two more pipelines near native American lands while attention by few are on this on in NOrth Dakota....

Quote North Dakota — I didn’t want to be right last month when I predicted the media’s blackout of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) protests after the blockade first started generating a buzz on social media — but I was.

According to media watchdog Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), ABC and NBC News have yet to broadcast a single mention of the DAPL protests, which have brought the $3.8 billion oil pipeline project at the Sacred Stone Camp in North Dakota to a halt.

thunder24 Thank you for going to Standing Rock. Do not be disheartened. Many of us want to join you but have to rearrange our lives before we can do so. I believe more and more people will come, especially in the Spring and perhaps when more are awakened. You are on Indian time now. Things will happen when they are supposed to. (I just spent 20 years in Alaska with the Tlingit and Haida, so I have some experience with this). Please keep us informed.

Looks awesome, now that your there... what are the dire "needs" of the local?

if someone wanted to help out, where's the best place to start?

    maybe a prioritized list?
Hard times create strong men, Strong men create good times, Good times create weak men, Weak men create hard times.
    Where are you?

IF someone was there, bring enough supplies for your self i.e. firewood, food, clothes, blankets etc.. and then contribute some to the collective camp. If you are able bodied then come to help i.e. haul water, split wood, carry wood, prepare meals, cook meals, feed fires, fill in fire pits...people are breaking ankles where camps that have left did not fill in their fire pits, pick up ciggarete butts and trash all day, put water bottles in recycling... learn the culture, respect it... you are a guest and this is not your platform for your agenda... leave all the new age rhetoric at the gate. Their is an open mic and many non natives wanna talk but the verbiage used is not going over well with the natives... respect the fact you are a guest their to help and not push your own ideologies...

If you are not there or don't plan on going, the amazon wish list is the best way to contribute in my opinion... that way you are not just giving money blindly to things you don't know what they go too.

also, they are planning winter camp, if you go and have building skills, bring tools, if you have knowledge on solar and wind bring your information and be ready to work, its not a pow wow . It is a prayer ceremony 24 hours a day, respect that....no alcohol, no drugs (including weed) no weapons... no cig buts in the prayer fire.... and learn the culture you are entering...
