"Awesome news, one police officer who had worked for 16 years turned in his badge and joined us, a friend of mine met and spent time with him here.
I heard that 4 others also quit their jobs and turned in badges but haven't confirmed with multiple sources...

lets hope this is true and keeps happening.
also by the way a sherriff from Wisconsin was found passed out in his car with a high blood alcohol content and was given a DUI, Wisconsin troops were withdrawn from north dakota."

    this might be working....

Quote BISMARCK, ND - The U.S. Department of Justice has reiterated that the Army will not issue a permit for the Dakota Access pipeline to cross Lake Oahe while they examine the issues raised by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

“While the Army continues to review issues raised by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and other tribal nations and their members, it will not authorize constructing the Dakota Access Pipeline on Corps land bordering or under Lake Oahe. In the interim, the departments of the Army, Interior, and Justice have reiterated our request that the pipeline company voluntarily pause all construction activity within 20 miles east or west of Lake Oahe,” said Justice Department spokesman Wyn Hornbuckle in an email Tuesday.

“The Justice Department is taking the situation in North Dakota seriously, and has been in communications with state and local law enforcement officials, as well as tribal representatives and protesters, to facilitate communication, defuse tensions, support peaceful protests, and maintain public safety,” Hornbuckle said.
This is bull****, request my ass, they have already gotten up right to a couple miles from river if not closer . YOu request my ass, this is saying go ahead and do it we are only asking you don't.... "Hey bully please don't punch my friend"...meaning "grab them by the pussy..."

Standing Ground on NoDAPL: Oceti Sakowin School Educates Next Generation
    Mary Annette Pember
    10/19/16

Steve Tamayo, a Lakota artist from Milks Camp, South Dakota, teaches children at the Oceti Sakowin camp school how to make a traditional hand drum.

The children currently camped out at Standing Rock are the generation that will grow up knowing that their parents, and by extension they, stood up for the water—and thus themselves—and that it is their story to tell.
“We aren’t just sitting around out here talking bad about the pipeline,” said Tashubi B., an 11-year-old Sicangu Lakota girl attending school at the Oceti Sakowin camp of water protectors near the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota. “We have resources.”
Those resources consist of a fully operational school that is combining conventional classes with real-world experience for a unique educational opportunity. For instance, Tashubi and her classmates are putting their education to immediate use by creating documentaries about their experiences and perspectives at the camp as part of a school project.
“They said they were tired of reporters coming to the camp and telling stories about them and the school,” said Teresa Dzieglewicz, a teacher at Oceti Sakowin School. “They decided they wanted to tell their own stories.”

Using donated tablets, Dzieglewicz and her colleagues are working with students as they first create written proposals and later gather interviews and information to tell their stories.

“Our plan is to have all the documentaries online for everybody to see,” Dzieglewicz said.

Started by Standing Rock schoolteacher Alayna Eagle Shield, the camp school has attracted a core group of committed teachers and support staff such as Dzieglewicz and colleagues Blaze Starkey and Jose Zagney. Although Dzieglewicz initially planned to stay only two days when she arrived more than a month ago, she has since decided to put her Master of Fine Arts studies in St. Louis on hold and stay on at the camp. Previously she had taught elementary school on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota.

Left to right: Teresa Dzieglewicz, Jose Cagney and Blaze Starkey, a few of the teachers at the Oceti Sakowin camp school, pose in front of a tipi used as a classroom. (Photo: Mary Annette Pember)

“I believe deeply in environmental and indigenous rights issues,” Dzieglewicz said. “I decided that I needed to care about them here rather than from far away in St. Louis.”
Parents and students are very engaged with the home schooling curriculum offered by teachers at the school. For instance, after realizing that the kids wanted to tell their own stories about the camp and share their feelings about the pipeline, Dzieglewicz helped get tablets donated with the help of attorney Eric DeWeese of Portland, Oregon, who also volunteered at the Oceti Sakowin as legal council for several days.

“I saw the elders in a tipi talking and I thought, Wow, they must have amazing stories to tell,” said DeWeese, who ended up donating 15 tablets along with solar chargers. “I thought it was an incredible opportunity for kids to hear and document their stories.”
Students at Oceti Sakowin school were a little weary from several days of media attention when an ICTMN reporter arrived. This made Tashubi initially reluctant to discuss her project, until she learned that one of her teachers had said she was a very sharp girl.

“Well, of course,” she quickly agreed, and went on to describe her work. “My project is about the resources that we have here at camp. I want people to see that we have lots of things here and that we can take care of ourselves in a good way. We have a school, a kitchen, security and supplies.”

She was also keen for people to know that the camp school is a serious place.

“We don’t just sit around and talk. We study serious subjects like math and science,” Tashubi said. “We also get to learn about Lakota values and language. Mostly I want people to know that we are unarmed; we are humble and peaceful people who are praying for a new way to live on the Earth.”

Oceti Sakowin school camp students are learning firsthand that Water Is Life.

Not everyone agrees, however, that the school is a good thing. North Dakota Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Kirsten Baesler has told the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Council that the Oceti Sakowin camp school is operating illegally and does not fit the official definition of a home-schooling operation, the Bismarck Tribune reported. She offered to bus students to Mandan public schools, the newspaper said.

Dzieglewicz, however, said the school adheres strictly to the state’s home schooling requirements and standards, and helps parents work on completing home-school paperwork. But according to Baesler, North Dakota regulations governing home schooling require that parents must be the primary educators for students.

Dzieglewicz is a former certified teacher, and Blaze Starkey, one of the main teachers at the camp, has a bachelor’s degree in language arts. Neither has ever made any pretense of operating the school as an accredited institution, they told the Bismark Tribune. Moreover, North Dakota law is not precise about stating that parents must be the educators in home schooling students, said Dan Beasley, a staff attorney with the Home School Legal Defense Association.
While the grown-ups debate, the schooling goes on.

“Since this documentary is created by an 11-year-old girl, you know of course that there will be some fun and comedy too!” said a smiling Tashubi of her project.
The students at Oceti Sakowin camp do have lots of fun. Embedded in the fun and games, however, are important lessons about Lakota values and traditional skills such as making drums, putting up a tipi, and learning traditional songs and dances.

Fortunately, Dzieglewicz and her colleagues have been able to draw from some of the most talented and skilled Native teachers and artists in Indian country, as they cycle regularly through the camp.

Steve Tamayo of the Milk’s Camp community on the Rosebud Sioux reservation is spending several days with the children, teaching traditional skills such as tipi and drum making. He’s the artist who painted the tipi for the Cowboy and Indian Alliance that was gifted to President Obama in 2014 to help raise awareness about the Keystone XL pipeline.

Artist Steven Tamayo is teaching students how to make tipis and hand drums, giving them math lessons in the process.

Tamayo integrates sacred Lakota symbolism and spirituality as well as knowledge of plants and their uses in his lessons. For instance he integrates the spiritual Lakota significance of the numbers four, seven and 13 into teaching about tipi building. At the same time, he creates a valuable lesson in math and problem solving. The students are working with Tamayo to create a winter count using Lakota symbols that will tell the story of their experience at camp.

Steve Tamayo's hands as he plies his craft, teaching students how to make a hand drum. (Photo: Mary Annette Pember)

Currently Tamayo works as manager and cultural arts specialist with the Native American Advocacy Program (NAAP) in Herrick, South Dakota. NAAP is a nonprofit organization that helps at-risk youth build a cultural identity based on the traditional Lakota way of life. NAAP Executive Director Marla Bull Bear also worked with children at the camp, teaching them a Lakota morning song every day.

“Your prayers count,” she told the group as they sat in a circle around her. She led the students in song, quietly at first, then building to a crescendo that silenced the surrounding camp conversations.

With the help of teachers at Oceti Sakowin, the Sacred Stone camp has also started a school of its own just across the Cannonball River. Mary Paniscus of Berlin, as well as other volunteers, had just finished organizing the huge number of donated books and school supplies when ICTMN visited.

“I was just telling my mother this morning that I was thinking I might return to teaching,” Paniscus said with a laugh. “Now, this afternoon, I find that I’m the principal of the Sacred Stone Camp school.”

Paniscus, who teaches genetics in Germany, had just arrived with her mother. After teachers and students posed for their first-day-of-school photo, Paniscus shooed parents and visitors out.

“You’ll have to excuse us now,” she said. “It’s time for class.”

So word is, the police are stationed at fort rice North of Cannon Ball as a gathering point which is signifigant in the fact this is where the calvary were gathered in the 1800s to hunt down the Dakota people. They (whoever they are) are also scrambling the phones live streaming right now.

Mark Ruffalo was on his way to the airport and the police have blocked the roads to all traffic, and at this moment Jesse Jackson is on his way to the barracade to discuss what can be done with the police "guarding it" and is now calling the White House . Assault rifles in hand at the barracade. Also it is being reported medics and emt are being positioned at Fort Rice for immediate future actions by the police

"CANNON BALL, N.D. (AP) — Law enforcement officials said on Wednesday they are poised to remove about 200 protesters trying to halt the completion of the Dakota Access oil pipeline in North Dakota after the demonstrators refused to leave private land owned by the pipeline company.
Officers with county sheriff's offices, the state Highway Patrol and the National Guard asked protesters to move off the site on Wednesday morning and were rebuffed. The authorities then left.
Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney later told reporters that authorities don't want a confrontation but that the protesters "are not willing to bend."
"We have the resources. We could go down there at any time," he said. "We're trying not to."
Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier said authorities would continue to try for a peaceful resolution but that "we are here to enforce the law as needed."
Protesters vowed to stay put, at one point chanting "Stand in peace against the beast."

"We're going to hold this ground," said protester Mekasi Camp Horinek.
"I'm here to die if I have to. I don't want to die but I will," said Didi Banerji, who lives in Toronto but is originally from the Spirit Lake Sioux reservation in North Dakota.
About 200 activists moved onto the site last weekend to fight the nearly 1,200-mile pipeline, which they fear could harm cultural sites and drinking water for the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.
Energy Transfer Partners, which is building the $3.8 billion pipeline, said Tuesday that the protesters were trespassing and that "lawless behavior will not be tolerated."
Protests supporting the Standing Rock Sioux tribe's opposition to the pipeline have been ongoing for months, with more than 260 people arrested so far in North Dakota. The pipeline is to carry oil from western North Dakota through South Dakota and Iowa to an existing pipeline in Patoka, Illinois, where shippers can send it on to Midwest and Gulf Coast markets. Energy Transfer Partners has said the pipeline is nearly complete other than the work in south central North Dakota.
Local sheriff's officials had said earlier they didn't have the resources to immediately remove activists from the private land, which is just north of the main protest camp on federal land near Cannon Ball, a town about 50 miles south of Bismarck. But officers called for reinforcements, and those were arriving from other states.
The tribe has five ambulances on standby Wednesday, along with 32 emergency workers — with no one allowed to take time off, tribal health director Margaret Gates said.
"Our concern is chaos," she said. "Our concern is for the safety and well-being of everybody. We don't know what's going to happen."
One notable clash came on Sept. 3, after construction crews removed topsoil from private land that protesters believe contained Native American burial and cultural sites. Authorities said four security guards and two guard dogs were injured. The tribe said protesters reported that six people were bitten by security dogs and at least 30 people were pepper-sprayed.
The state and pipeline company dispute that any sacred grounds have been disturbed during the construction.
North Dakota's Emergency Commission approved $6 million in emergency funding for law enforcement costs related to the protest — but as of Wednesday, nearly all of that had been used up. The Department of Emergency Services plans to ask for more, Fong said.
The protest has drawn the attention of activists and celebrities, including actress-activist Shailene Woodley and Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein. Civil rights activist Jesse Jackson and actor Mark Ruffalo were at the protest camp Wednesday. Jackson said he was there "to pray together, protest together and if necessary go to jail together."

This version of the story corrects the end point of the pipeline to Patoka, Illinois rather than refineries in Illinois."

"I went to a meeting yesterday at the community center in Cannonball, the nearby town that has been at the forefront of standing rock. Councilman Chad came down to answer questions.
    Here are the highlights:
DAPL/Energy Transfer Partner Oil company bought the land where the pipeline goes through for $18million, if were to legally take it as eminent domain we would need to offer 9million as "just compensation", which we do not have. It is a actually illegal in north dakota for a corporation to own ranches, which is what they bought, so this illegal purchase and ownership is being "looked into" by the state but no confidence in any actual results.
Also I was disappointed to hear that the treaty land angle may not hold up because standing rock did legally lose the land but didnt accept that legally. He said the process has gone thru the supreme court and was determined once before so it helps to stall but probably wont hold up in court. At the same time he said they are spending a lot of $ on lawyers to look into this process and if there is any other way to reclaim this land illegally taken in violation of the treaties of 1851.
The longer we stall the construction of the pipeline itself, the more likely investors will back out from DAPL and that would end it.
The US army corps of engineers still has not granted permit for missouri river drilling, so its down to that and our physical stand at frontline camp that is between them and finishing.
The biggest curveball for winterization is that the ideal site to set up a more official winter camp would need some of the acreage acquired through the Beareau of Indian Affairs, and they just said it would take two years for the process. The tribe put in a requesr to expedite the process of acquiring the land by cannonball pit stop but BIA "won't" do it, not that they can't, but they are known to be slow and are not making exceptions for standing rock. I wonder if it is worth calling them en masse and requesting this be done...
Chairman said that the native people are tired of being the "collateral damage" with army situations, and is proud of this stand for declaring that.
The tribe has signed a letter for the US Attorney general and Amnesty International to look into racial discrimination by morton county sheriff department at the road block checkpoints. They are known to make brown skinned people detour around it and submit to harassment and searches whereas allow white skinned people to be waved through. It was different and much more casual once the National Guard took over. Personally I have been waved through without issue whenever having gone through the checkpoints.
An elder woman said lets ask Governor Dalripple: "are we native people actually citizens of north dakota?because he does not treat us like we are" The chairman responsed that it doesnt seem like the Governor caree about any of this, he is just "sticking his head in the sand until this is over because he is out of office in 2 months, the election is in 10 days.
Fun fact for protectors here: if you have been here for 30 days you can sign an affidavit and Vote here! Anyone know more info on this? I will talk to legal and find out, we could make a big difference here, several native people are on the ballot...
Chairman agrees that there have been dozens of infractions against the law by the state but they dont have enough legal funds for all the lawsuits. Donations and legal aid are deeply needed. There are some lawyers from a tribe in Washington who are helping, thank you to them. They also need particular expertise in researching the history of the treaty law situation if anyone knows any experts on that type of law.
A concern of Cannonball and the tribe is what will happen to liability for the tribe if people at camps are having cold related health issues such as frostbite, hypothermia, as well as does the IHS insurance company have enough funds to cover people here if they are uninsured?
Chairman Chad said that although the tipis are beautiful and symbolic, most people have not lived in them full time especially through a north dakota winter for a very long time. He said people have trouble staying warm inside wooden houses here and every year sadly people perish due to the extreme cold. He does not want people to suffer or not survive the winter living outdoors, but there is no other viable land to build a proper winter camp nearby. One question is would US Army Corps give the land where Big camp/oceti sakowin is now to the tribe as a compromise, because some people are already winterizing there and don't want to move anyway.
Gratitude for the Episcopal Diocese for providing the meal for this gathering, it was sweet to hear the pastor sing a prayer song in the local language." from lolly bee

"Snippets from what happened yesterday at the #NODAPL frontline in ND:

-Over 100 Water Protectors have been arrested in an act of civil disobedience, in the face of a militarized police force.

    - President Obama had asked that work stop within 20 miles of river yet national guard were used to clear the way for yesterday's police sweep & DAPL construction.

    - men and women were pulled out of a sweat lodge ceremony at gunpoint.

    - DAPL security forces were part of the invasion. They had armed men with AR-15 and had malicious intent to sneak into the camp.

    - the similarities to wounded knee cannot be ignored. There was potential last night to turn a peaceful protest into a major tragedy.

    - the racial undertones of yesterday's actions cannot be ignored. Armed white men stand off against police in Oregon: Acquitted. Unarmed water protectors in North Dakota: Concussion grenades, rubber bullets and batons.

    - FAA made a no fly zone yet DAPL private security planes and choppers were flying all day.

    - ND police have been saying we are armed vigilantes. The only weapons on site yesterday were in the hands of militarized police. Assault rifles, snipers, concussion grenades, batons, etc.

    - Horse back riders were attacked by police on ATVS resulting in one horse being hurt so severely that it had to be put down.

    - There were national guard humvees on site with snipers stationed on top." ----from DAllas goldtooth
