By design, we're scattered in so many directions that no one important story gets the airtime it deserves. Thanks for keeping us informed, T24 and everyone.

    Well, the buffalo came...

While demonstrators and police faced off during a protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline, a rather unexpected show of force emerged - a thundering herd of buffalo.
A stampede near the Standing Rock protest camp prompted cries of joy from the Standing Rock Sioux.

Footage of the moment, understood to have occurred on Thursday, shows a protester is being interviewed before stopping when spotting the herd of wild buffalo in the distance.

The Standing Rock Sioux had been reportedly praying for help in the midst of the standoff , US Uncut reports.

“The ancestors are with us,” said Myron Dewey, who uploaded video footage of the stampede to Facebook.

Buffalo are revered as symbols of sacrifice in Native American culture. Indigenous people believe the animals, which are also known as “Tatanka Oyate” or “Buffalo Nation,” sacrifice themselves in order to supply their meat and their hides for people.

BUFFALO PEOPLE // Spirit riders on horseback opened a fence just east of Treaty camp and once again hundreds of buffalo were allowed to freely run the North Dakota plains as police and military forces were trying to overrun the camp with violence and intimidation. The cheers and emotion from the water protectors were a force upon itself when the crowd watched the buffalo run full speed through what is now being nicknamed "Buffalo Hill".

At least 117 demonstrators have been arrested in North Dakota as protesters continue to protest against construction of the controversial pipeline, which will cut through Native American land. Protesters say its construction will destroy sacred sites and have a negative impact on the region’s water supplies.

In a statement from the tribe’s chairman, David Archambault II, the leader condemned what he called the recent “militarized law enforcement” against protesters.

“Militarized law enforcement agencies moved in on water protectors with tanks and riot gear today,” he said. “We continue to pray for peace. We call on the state of North Dakota to oversee the actions of local law enforcement to, first and foremost, ensure everyone’s safety.”

"Until people stand together and say no more this will continue. We all have diffrent ways of expressing this sentiment and different ways of viewing it... but reality is until we stand as a majority and say no more, it will continue. Emotions are running high on both sides because humanity is at a cross roads, and Standing Rock is a crux...Oil at this point is an ends to a means on the bigger scale. When we use oil to get us where we want to be with renewable energies or free energy then we will no longer need it....until then it is necessary for our world to keep flowing. Majority of people on here would not know what to do with action to live if we stopped oil TODAY. BUT if we work together to utilize the paradigm we have towards what we want , all of us as a whole can get there. "

I posted this on facebook group about standing rock, but of course it didn't get much attention cause everyone is dealing with emotions right now, understandably so but it still needs to be said.

Hillary Turns Her Back on Standing Rock Sioux:
‘Path Forward Must Serve Broadest Public Interest’

    [snippets from article]

The statement from the Clinton campaign director of coalitions press, Xochitl Hinojosa, who oversees Hispanic, black, and women’s media for the Clinton campaign, reads in full:
We received a letter today from representatives of the tribes protesting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. From the beginning of this campaign, Secretary Clinton has been clear that she thinks all voices should be heard and all views considered in federal infrastructure projects. Now, all of the parties involved—including the federal government, the pipeline company and contractors, the state of North Dakota, and the tribes—need to find a path forward that serves the broadest public interest. As that happens, it’s important that on the ground in North Dakota, everyone respects demonstrators’ rights to protest peacefully, and workers’ rights to do their jobs safely.

On the same day the militarized action in North Dakota took place, Native youth from the Standing Rock Sioux and other tribes — tired of the damning silence from Hillary Clinton — demonstrated outside of Clinton campaign headquarters in Brooklyn, New York.

A number of brave Lakota youth and their Lenape relatives erected a teepee and prayed in the lobby of Clinton’s Brooklyn office as a militarized police force evicted water protectors from their traditional Treaty Lands in North Dakota. They were there to deliver a letter to Clinton about the pipeline.

A 14 –year-old girl from Standing Rock attempted to deliver a letter to Hillary Clinton’s Brooklyn campaign HQ to ask her to take a stand on the Dakota Access Pipeline. The youth stood at the front desk in tears asking for someone to please come down to accept the letter. The guards completely ignored the young girl, and the Clinton campaign refused to show enough respect to send a campaign staffer to cordially accept the letter.

"Things seem to be changing at the Courthouse.

"Industry leaders, including Kelcy Warren, have mishandled Dakota Access pipeline protest right from the beginning

Six weeks ago, I warned that the Dakota Access pipeline protest was going to be the next Keystone XL issue for the American oil and gas industry. I was wrong. It’s going to be much worse.

    Dakota Access
Kelcy Warren, CEO of Energy Transfer Partners, builder of Dakota Access Pipeline.
Eco-activists have acknowledged that opposing Keystone XL was more than just the pros and cons of the pipeline project. It was about re-energizing the American environmental movement around climate change and against fossil fuels.

From that point of view, it was spectacularly successful. With an ally in the White House, the political momentum created by the process that led up to the Paris climate accord, and funding from the deep pockets of major charities and newly minted “green” billionaires like Tom Steyer, US eco-activists have probably never been as powerful as they are today.

But something is going on with the Dakota Access protests that is likely to make them even more powerful – and influential with the next president and Congress. Something that could be a turning point for the American oil and gas industry.

That something is the decline of industry’s legitimacy in American political culture.

Erica Ciszek is an assistant professor with the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication at the University of Houston. She says that if today were 1950 or even 1990, the American oil and gas industry would have tremendous legitimacy with the American public. Energy producers powered the economy, providing cheap gasoline for consumers and millions of good paying jobs for workers. Fossil fuels were seen as the backbone of the economy.

Economic strength conferred political legitimacy, says Ciszek: “The oil and gas industry had a political legitimacy that was pretty secure…The companies were viewed positively and they enjoyed political legitimacy as an economic institution, as a social institution.”

    dakota access
Video: Well automation systems reduce costs, increase efficiency. Complete systems installed starting at $3,000 in Permian Basin.
Gallup public opinion polling shows how that legitimacy has been eroded over the past decade or so.

When asked, “Which of the following approaches to solving the nations energy problems do you think the US should follow right now?” – 73 per cent of Americans chose emphasizing “alternative energy” over oil and gas. The partisan split was quite significant: 89 per cent of Democrats and 51 per cent of Republicans. Support for alternative energy was as low as 59 per cent in 2012.

A Pew Research poll conducted in March shows that “74% of U.S. adults said the ‘country should do whatever it takes to protect the environment,’ compared with 23% who say ‘the country has gone too far in its efforts to protect the environment.’” A 2014 Pew poll found that increasing American oil and gas production didn’t change voters’ views about energy, with those favoring the expansion of “alternative energy” outnumbering those supporting oil and gas by six to three margin.

Changing national attitudes are not a pendulum swing in politics, but a structural shift in political culture driven by changes in energy technology and the way Americans think about energy, says Ciszek.

“These [oil and gas] companies are going to have to recognize the way the landscape has shifted over the past twenty years – it is not the 1990s,” she said.

    dakota access

“I think we’re having a national shift in terms of who we are as a nation, how do we fuel ourselves, both literally and metaphorically and ideologically. The oil and gas industry has a lot of soul-searching to do to figure out what role they’re going to play in the American political narrative in terms of the respective roles of oil and gas, and renewable energy.”

The national “soul searching” around the energy narrative will not be aided by violent confrontation between Native Americans (supported by well-funded and organized environmental groups) and heavily militarized police forces enforcing the rule of law on behalf of a pipeline company.

That is a losing scenario for the American oil and gas industry already plagued by declining political legitimacy.

Energy Enterprise Partners had a chance to de-escalate tensions with the Standing Rock Sioux – as crisis communications experts always advise. Instead, the company chose to escalate and continue escalating, culminating with the clash Friday between protestors and police forces who looked like they were ready for a war.

Images of armored vehicles and SWAT teams and young women hit in the face with rubber bullets and rumors of arrested protestors being held in dog cages – and so much more – are buzzing around the world on social media. The Standing Rock Sioux are not going away; instead, they have vowed to continue their protest over the winter and have begun crowdfunding online to pay for provisions and housing. Protests have broken out in other parts of the United States in support of the Sioux.

And if Democrat Hillary Clinton wins the presidential election only 10 days hence, protestors will have a powerful ally in the White House (and possibly in Congress if the Democrats take the Senate, as seems possible).

The Dakota Access protests have the making of a disastrous political and public relations debacle for the industry. One it brought on itself at time when its legitimacy with voters is on the wane.

Industry leaders, including Energy Enterprise Partners CEO Kelcy Warren, should do some immediate soul searching before Dakota Access becomes a much bigger political disaster than Keystone XL ever was.

Unfortunately, it may already be too late."

North American Energy News October 29, 2016

“Let’s reroute the pipeline. It doesn’t have to put our water at risk” – Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Dave Archambault II, Dakota Access pipeline protest

(Reuters) – Native American leaders vowed on Saturday to protest through the winter against Dakota Access Pipeline they say threatens water resources and sacred lands and are weighing lawsuits over police treatment of arrested protesters.

Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Dave Archambault II said he and other tribal leaders were working on providing food, heat and shelter for protesters opposed to the $3.8 billiona North Dakota oil pipeline.

“We’re just working through some technical details as far as where the land is, and the type of land that can be used for some permanent structures,” Archambault, who was flanked by Cheyenne River Sioux Chairman Harold Frazier, told reporters in Mandan, North Dakota.

At least 10 shelters were being readied on tribal land against temperatures that can fall below -35 Fahrenheit (-37 Celsius) for days at time, he said.

“Let’s reroute the pipeline. It doesn’t have to put our water at risk,” said Archambault, who was flanked by Cheyenne River Sioux Chairman Harold Frazier.

Opponents of the pipeline scheduled an afternoon rally at the state capitol in Bismarck against the 1,172-mile (1,885-km) pipeline being built by companies led by Energy Transfer Partners LP. It would offer the fastest route to bring Bakken shale oil from North Dakota to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries.

The project has drawn opposition from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, as well as environmental activists, who say it threatens water supplies as well as sacred tribal sites. More than 400 protesters have been arrested since Aug. 10.

Archambault said his tribe may pursue a class action over police tactics on Thursday. Officers in riot gear swept through a protester camp on private land using pepper spray, bean bag rounds and an audio cannon against demonstrators who refused to leave. At least 142 people were arrested on Thursday and Friday.

The Morton County Sheriff’s Department has said some protesters set fire to roadblocks and threw rocks, bottles and homemade gasoline bombs at officers.

Frazier said elderly women had been pepper-sprayed and some detainees had been held in dog kennels.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Donnell Preskey said the state Department of Corrections had inspected and approved the holding area for those arrested.

Detainees had been sent to jails around the state, and many had been released after promising to appear in court, she said. Preskey said the protest site was quiet on Saturday.

The U.S. government in September halted construction on part of the pipeline. The affected area includes land under Lake Oahe, a reservoir on the Missouri River where the line was supposed to cross.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is deciding whether to grant the pipeline company an easement to build under the lake. Two-thirds of tribal members at the Standing Rock Reservation are jobless and average yearly income is $4,421, according to North Plains Reservation Aid, a charity.

Opposition to the pipeline has been backed by celebrities and actors, including Mark Ruffalo, Shailene Woodley, Susan Sarandon, Chris Hemsworth and Riley Keough.

As a native of Turtle Island and a contributor/supporter of the Standing Rock Water Protectors I have concerns that the conflict is being used to promote concepts that are not only political but are also mind control mechanisms of the elitists who are always the enemies of indigenous peoples everywhere around the planet. These elitists are sociopathic and continually rape the earth for its resources and only consider indigenous people--and really ALL non-elitist people--to be expendable in their never-ending quest for more money, power, control and war.

The elitists operate by dividing and conquering and I see this concept being used vis-a-vis this situation.

A prime example is Democracy Now's Amy Goodman using racist language and blatant lies to create division amongst the peoples of this planet.

Amy Goodman's video and web page title Bundys vs. #NoDAPL: Armed White Militia Leaders Walk Free as Native Americans Face Police Violence is pure propaganda riddled with lies and serves only to divide people and distort the truth.

First of all, the Bundy's are not "white". This is blatant race baiting by Goodman. I never met a "white" man or woman. Even albinos are not white because the color of their blood comes through--And are not all of our bodies RED on the inside? And, really, why should genetic differences play such a negative and divisive role when we are not bodies but spiritual beings?

Secondly, the Bundy's did not "walk free". They were unlawfully detained by federal marshals (thugs, actually) and are now facing continued false imprisonment and more oppressive federal charges in Nevada. Their lawyer was thrown to the floor and tased (police violence) for requesting due process pursuant to the US Constitution.

They were arrested for exercising the same Rights that the water protectors were exercising. The Bundys were unarmed and their unarmed spokesman was murdered. So I hardly think that they received any kind of special treatment because they were "white".

The Bundys are a family of cattle ranchers and they have been attacked by the same elitists that have plagued Turtle Island natives from the get go--the WHITE House in Washington DC (which actually is painted white).

Who owned and financed the railroads that slaughtered buffalo and took over "the West" and own and control the oil industry?

How about names like Harriman, Rothschild, Rockefeller, Bush? The Clintons and Reids have been working to sell off rights to resources in the west (including treaty lands) to foreign companies. The Bureau of Land Management are their violent henchmen that have lied, bullied, tased, burned out and basically made their lives a hell in the same way that natives have been treated by the oil establishment. The very same people!

And this is the irony of this situation--that native Americans and the western cattle ranchers have the same enemy!

So this is not a Cowboys vs Indians fight. The powers that be would like us to think it is so they can keep us divided and fighting with each other instead of correctly identifying the real enemy which is a common enemy.

Another point of irony is that the Bundys are not "militia"; they are Mormons whose spiritual philosophy and practice includes following the US Constitution that also supports TREATY RIGHTS! (Read Article 6 of the US Constitution) So the Bundys are not "anti-government" as propagandist Amy Goodman alleges. They are pro-government and anti-corruption. Big difference! And also note that Goodman does not use the term "anti-government water protectors" which by the same token could be equally applied.

So is Amy Goodman no different than the mainstream media that is owned and controlled by the elitists? Is she a wolf in sheep's clothing?

Also, for anyone who is paying attention, it is cattle ranchers who have been bringing back the buffalo population. So let's villify and violently attack the cattle ranchers and let the Clintons sell uranium deposits to the Russians and let the Reids sell solar farms to the Chinese?

The solution is for ALL people, regardless of the silliness of "race" prejudices, to work out solutions that can be win-win achievements for all. It is a complex problem but not impossible to resolve if we do it without the WHITE House and their corporate controllers.

I am reminded of the words of the Seven Fires Prophecy of the Anishinabe People and the Process of Reconcillation:

"At the time of the Seventh Fire, a new people will emerge. They will retrace the footsteps of their ancestors and will try to find those things which have been lost along the way. They will approach the elders in search of guidance. It will not be an easy task but if they are of good heart and pure intentioned they can prevail. Some elders will be sleeping and have nothing to say, others will say nothing out of fear.

The New generation must be fearless in their quest.

The Light Skinned race will be at a crossroads. If they continue down the road of Materialism, it will be their destruction and for all humanity as well. But if the Light Skinned Race chooses to join with the Natural People of this land on the Spiritual path then they will again have the chance to create a nation, the greatest spiritual nation ever to have existed.

Two other races will join these two races. Together, they [we] will together light the 8th and final Fire--an eternal fire of Peace, Harmony, Brotherhood and Sisterhood."

"President Obama addressed the Dakota Access Pipeline controversy for the second time Tuesday, saying his administration is looking for way to reroute the pipeline.

“We’re monitoring this closely, and you know I think that as a general rule my view is that there is a way for us to accommodate sacred lands of Native Americans,” Obama said in an interview with Now This, shared with MSNBC’s “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” Tuesday.
“I think that right now the Army Corps [of Engineers] is examining whether there are ways to reroute this pipeline.”

Tensions in North Dakota are rising between police and pipeline protesters, who have been demonstrating for weeks.

The Standing Rock Sioux tribe says the pipeline, which would cross the Missouri River upstream of the reservation, would contaminate drinking water and harm scared lands.

Were going to let it play out for several more weeks and then determine whether or not this can be resolved in a way that I think is properly attentive to traditions of the first Americans,” Obama said. "

"I was just shot. Militarized police fired at me from point blank range with a rubber bullet on the front lines of Standing Rock.
My body will be okay, but I am hurting, I am incensed, I am weeping, I am scared. Peaceful, prayerful, unarmed, nonviolent people on one side of a river; militarized police with armed vehicles and assault weapons occupying treaty land on the other, where sacred burial grounds have already been destroyed. What is happening here in North Dakota is like nothing I have ever seen in my life, anywhere in the world. This is a fight to protect and defend the water for 17 million people in the watershed downstream to the Gulf, for a livable planet, for Native and human rights, for the lifeforce of us all. We are at the confluence of the movements for civil rights, for the environment, for peace, for justice. I am proud to stand in solidarity with our Native brothers and sisters – alongside the water protectors and land defenders – who put their lives on the line and are facing excessive force, pepperspray and mace, historic trauma, brutal arrest, imprisonment in dog kennels, felony charges, and callous destruction of sacred objects. This is not about me, but I am here – and will remain here – to cover and amplify truth and bravery on the ground with my colleagues Josh Fox of Josh Fox Film, Josue Rivas of Josué Rivas Fotographer, Jordan Chariton of The Young Turks, Evan Simon of ABC News. Standing Rock represents the exploitation of a long-oppressed people, illegal land seizure, crude oil transport, media censorship, national security threat, public health crises, and more human rights violations than I can count.
It is inexcusable for the President Obama to say he will “let it play out for several more weeks." It is unjustifiable for the Attorney General to not be here. It is unconscionable for mainstream media to not cover this. It is indefensible for all politicians to not condemn what is occurring here. It is disgraceful for more people to not speak out and show up to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Pray for the water protectors, for justice, for our people and our world. #NoDAPL #StandWithStandingRock #WaterIsLife"
