    Scary ? Exciting?
I've been tracking short term (or shortish term) technological advancements for a couple of years now.

This thread is mostly a collection of technological advancements and a few of my thoughts on how they will integrate into our current reality.

anyway, you can skim through and get a pretty good idea of where we area headed.

    but in short:

Automation: we haven't even begun to leverage it yet & driverless vehicles (the very soon "next big thing") will be one of the more drastic and heavily felt changes in the US. But manufacturing, automation, and 3d printing will change the "industrial" world so drastically that in 10 years we will already be forgetting gigantic "one off" machines that cost millions and can only do 1 thing ( aside from labor, this is the current limitation to production of any complex item at scale). and it will seem like 3d printing paired with robotic assembly was always the obvious choice.

For example, here is a map with the most common job in each state labeled

And this is 5 years or less away.

Bio-manipulation: China just used CRISPR on the first (that we know of) human in the world, reversing cancer. We have found what makes mice age... Living to 400+ is probably going to be an option in my life time.

Energy: We have a few good ideas in batteries (but they are a ways out from development) & we are getting much better at solar conversion, once these two things are refined power is going to be nearly free. (this isn't even taking into consideration the possibility of the E-cat and other ventures into cold fusion).

AI: Deep learning & data mining... machines will know us better than we know our selves and how predictable we are will be completely lost on most people.

Finance: Block-chain technology will drastically shift finance, eliminating most finance based positions.

the next 10 years will be pretty exciting, those with the right drive and ambition will prosper, those who try to hang onto the past will suffer.

Hard times create strong men, Strong men create good times, Good times create weak men, Weak men create hard times.

Living till 400 years doesn't sound too fun, and what are they going to do with all these people who are living that long? People will still be reproducing...yeesh. Population control will be welcomed.
