Clearly, those among us who revile everything President Obama does - everything - have, like the members of Congress, fallen victim to the emotional campaign of the victims' families. So quick were they to gleefully take advantage of a perceived victory over "Obummer" that they failed to think through the ramifications of the veto. i.e. Americans overseas will now be subject to the laws of other countries, regardless of their 'immunity' status. They will be imprisoned for whatever charges foreign governments deem appropriate.

Now that emotions have cooled, the Republican leadership is having an "Oh sh*t" moment and are already back tracking on what they did.

Predictably, their go-to defence is to blame Obama for not stopping them. How's THAT for accepting personal responsibility for your mistakes? What part of the word "Veto" did they not understand?

So far, Obama has resisted the impulse to say :" I told you so." although he would have every right to do so. He has more class than that.

so i guess the veto was declared in the first place because every body knows that saudi arebia is not the one responsible for the 9/11.

The end of the cold war , 9/11 , the middle East , Afghanistan , North Korea ,
China , Ukraine , Russia are all linked and part of the neo -con continuation
of divide and rule , order out of chaos to stay in their eyes in control and
create a 'New World Order' also to benefit Israel , Saudi and other client
states in the disputed geo - political areas. This is mainly thru covert means
with Saudi money and Israeli intelligences and many more assets and allies
led by the Pentagon and the alphabet agencies, using NATO allies and assets
and most importantly al Qaeda ( the data base ) of freedom fighters/terrorists
complied during the Afghan wars against the soviets , Bosnia and other theatres.
This is an age old way of fighting wars usually termed mercenaries , which there
are still many some under the direct pay of the Pentagon and other sovereign states.

There is obviously a lot more detail in what I just wrote , but it leads into
this news item and shows Saudi and others links in the funding of rebels
and terrorist groups in Syria and also shows the type of thing that has
always gone on behind the scenes of these events. Thus to connect to
this thread Saudi probably had a large role with others funding the covert
side of the 9/11 inside job......Don't forget the neo - cons are all backing
Hillary to keep this agenda going.

No, Obama vetoed the bill in order to protect American citizens from being sued or prosecuted by foreign interests. It has nothing to do with 911.

Donald Trump: Only Explosives Could Have Brought Down World Trade Towers

Major media 'memory hole' regarding US presidential candidate's expert opinion on WTC
    By James F. Tracy

    Global Research, October 01, 2016

In an interview on September 11, 2001 swaggering-real estate mogul Donald Trump and
present Republican presidential candidate remarked that the World Trade Center Twin
Towers were likely brought down through controlled demolition. This prescient observation
has been intentionally overlooked by major media in the wake of 9/11′s fifteenth anniversary.

Many corporate news outlets chose instead to single out a off-handed comment by Trump
early on in the exchange where he momentarily ‘bragged’ that he ‘owned the tallest building’
in Manhattan next to the WTC– while failing to recognize and highlight his much more
important expert opinion a few moments later concerning the World Trade Center’s fate
    alongside those of its inhabitants.

1st lawsuit against Saudi Arabia over 9/11 attacks filed

    Published on 3 Oct 2016
Congress produced its first override of a presidential veto since Barack
Obama took office, effectively turned the Justice Against Sponsors of
Terror Act into law and allowing families of 9/11 victims to sue the
government in Saudi Arabia for its role in the attacks. Now, the first
complaint has been filed as RT America’s Alexey Yaroshevsky reports.

‘The warmongers in the US government have just had their fears realized as Iraq
plans to use the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), aka Sue the
Saudis Bill, to demand compensation for the US invasion of Iraq.

Last month, the U.S. House of Representatives, following the lead of the Senate,
passed a bill allowing Americans to sue Saudi Arabia over 9/11. When the bill made
it to the President’s desk, however, Obama quickly showed his loyalty to Saudi
Arabia and vetoed it. However, that was only the beginning of the rollercoaster.

Days after his despicable veto, the Senate stepped up and overwhelmingly voted to
    override it.’

Haven't seen the final version of this law yet.

Not sure what kind of brilliant strategy it takes to veto something that was unanimously passed.

If it extends towards other countries, and reflexively towards Americans, that sounds pretty fair. Bush and some of the others have immunity from criminal prosecution related to the events, but I don't think that includes civil lawsuits. Even if this results in a lot of out-of-court settlements--which is fairly normal for many suits vs. large entities--it sounds like a progressive twist to the mix. Saudi Arabia is going to "run out of gas" pretty quick as they get deeper into financial woes and pulled apart like a wishbone by Yemen.

Good. Maybe then we won't take it so lightly to just barge across another sovereign nation's borders and take their fate into our hands.

‘In a new Human Rights Watch (HRW) report released Monday, two former

Ridha al-Najjar, 51, and Lotfi al-Arabi El Gherissi, 52, both Tunisian men
recently repatriated after being in CIA custody for 13 years without charge,
independently described being threatened with a makeshift electric chair,

their wrists to the ceilings of their cells for extended periods of time, and
severely beaten. The executive summary of the U.S. Senate Intelligence
Committee’s still-classified torture report makes no mention of electric chairs.’
