Default Diplomatic Documents revealed by Wikileaks highlight the UN's intention to set up a research committee on UFOs.

These archives, made public in 2016 by Wikileaks, show that the United Nations seriously considered in 1978 the creation of a committee of inquiry into unidentified flying objects (UFOs) before the project was abandoned for lack of agreement .

Eric Gairy, then prime minister of the island of Granada, in the Caribbean, was at the origin of this initiative.

According to one of the published diplomatic cables, US officials were humorous about the idea put forward by Gairy, referring to his "blitzkrieg project presentation," which would include a team of supporters ranging from scientist to astronaut, Supplemented by a Hollywood production team. "

It should be noted that until 1974, Granada was still a British colony and that the United Kingdom was not adept at the remarks of Gairy, recently elected.

Allen Hynek, Prime Minister of Grenada Sir Eric Gairy, Waldheim, Morton Gleisner of the Special Political Committee, and Lee Speigel. Speigel produced and hosted nearly 1,500 programs on unexplained phenomena over an eight-year period at NBC Radio, and previously worked at Westwood One Radio and ABCNews.com. He is the only person in history to produce, in 1978, a major presentation at the United Nations on the subject of UFOs. http://www.leespeigel.com/
