While this is not a book, this site has a huge collection of books. There should be something for everyone here! My apologies if this has been posted already.

    Hello all,

I hesitate to post this, particularly since it's my first post on the forums, but in the interest of free and open expression, I'll say my piece.

I think it's wonderful that this thread was started and all of this information is made available. But--as a writer myself, I have to say I feel kind of queasy seeing the many, many (hundreds) of Copyrighted Books linked here for download, both directly and from other websites. It makes me wonder if any of these authors or their rep's were contacted and asked permission to post their works and make them available for free. I'll assume they were not.

I'm not trying to rain on the parade here. But think about it---someone works for years on a book, day in and and day out, often goes through hell to get it "published" legitimately and suddenly sees it made easily and instantly available for Free download. How would we all feel about that? Is that any different than posting Beck's or Prince's new album for instant download?

Now, some of these authors might say "sure, go ahead, I love the Avalon people". But others might not be so readily agreeable. Others still might say "well, okay, but make a small donation to this or that charity," for every download or every ten downloads.

I'm happy to be on the forum and hope to add another dimension to this thread.

    Hi poetbil,

Yes, there is that and I'm sure that's why a lot of stuff is allowed to stay on Youtube.

Still, there should be far more attention paid here--and more care and respect given--to the possibility that many of these authors may not agree to the completely free dissemination of their works.

    best,
    Caliban

Many thanks for this, and it's a tricky subject. In 95% (or more) of the instances of books referenced on this thread, the books are out there already in PDF form — somewhere on the net. What the contributors to this thread are almost always doing is linking to existing locations.

I have quite often re-uploaded existing PDFs of books to the Avalon server, but that's just after (e.g.) adding the cover to the text PDF. That's merely for presentational purposes.

In one instance, with Fritz Springmeier and Cisco Wheeler's seminal book The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave, I spent an entire day, maybe two, cleaning up the existing 800 page 'internet' copy, reformatting and editing typos after the fairly poor quality OCR (Optical Character Recognition). I posted that on the Avalon server, too.

Sometimes we receive e-mails from the authors or their representatives, asking us to kindly remove a link to a book. When that happens, we comply immediately — and I always send a gracious reply.

Thank you for that reply, Bill. I know you work very hard to put great stuff on the site - and it shows.

I just found it a little sad, for instance that link to a site in New Zealand I believe -- tons of copyrighted works by authors like Stanislav Grof, RA Wilson, etc. I'm all for making information available but again, we're talking years of work here and people scoop it up in one click.

Anyway, I appreciate your attention to this --- and your graciousness.
