Hello All!

December 2016's thread is finally here! It's been a busy week for me and I wasn't able to post it any sooner, but here goes my friends. The month looks calmer overall than the prior 2 months we saw, and hopefully this means that no disasters will strike around the world this time around. November brought quite a mixed bag of calamities around the planet, most of which caused serious destruction yet low death tolls such as what occurred in New Zealand with the Magnitude 7.9 - 8.0 earthquake, and the major hurricane in Central America during Thanksgiving time. Will December really bring calmer times?? It looks likely, but as always I would caution that this month also has risk periods of note and it only takes one misfortune to have an event occur in a largely populated region, and we can have a severe tragedy. The month of December is no stranger to these kinds of instances, so watch the weather and especially the Earth which may continue to shake in spots following November's high quake activity. As always y'all, here is the month's predictions:

December 7

Most Likely Scenario: A Strong Earthquake could occur during these risk dates, possibly ranging around Magnitude 6.5 - 7.5, and causing moderate to significant impacts. A small to medium sized Tsunami cannot be ruled out if the epicenter is at sea or near the coast. Watch most closely those parts of the world's major earthquake zones and areas that saw significant earthquake activity in November.

2nd Likely Scenario: A Flash Flooding Event or Landslide could also occur on this date. This scenario could be product of a strong storm system, and would be likeliest to occur in Southern Europe or South-Central portions of Asia this time around.

Notable Risk: The chance for any of these natural disaster scenarios to strike during this risk date is 20 percent with a chance for the event to be severe at 10 percent.

December 10-11

Most Likely Scenario: Major Indian Ocean Cyclone/ Typhoon could make news in the world's tropics during this time, with a higher chance it is either an Indian Ocean Cyclone or a Strong Typhoon. These two risk days are fair candidates for a land striking storm, and the fact is that there are signs we may see such a storm form in the Bay of Bengal later this week and potentially strike either India or Bangladesh this weekend, coinciding with these risk days. Major impacts and casualties could be a reality in the worst case scenario.

2nd Likely Scenario: A Strong Earthquake could occur during this time period as well, possibly attaining Magnitude 6.5 - 7.5 and causing significant impacts. A small to medium sized Tsunami could be an issue if the epicenter is at sea or near the coast. Watch the world's major earthquake zones and areas recently seeing earthquake activity closely, just in case.

3rd Possible Scenario: A Major Flooding Event or Disaster could happen during this time frame as well, most likely caused by the storm system predicted in Scenario 1, or caused by possible frontal storm activity (scenario 4). Flash floods, and possibly storm surge, will be the main types of flood events to lookout for. Watch the weather news closely if your area becomes threatened by heavy rains around these dates.

4th Possible Scenario: A Severe Weather/ Tornado Outbreak could also happen during this time. This event, or events, could be a result of a strong frontal, winter-type, storm system, which may spark strong thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind, floods, hail and even some tornadoes in parts of middle-latitude areas of the northern hemisphere, like the Central & Southeast U.S. and Western Europe, Central Asia. Some severe weather in parts of the southern hemisphere is also a possibility during this time. The main natural disaster types to watch out for during this potential Severe Weather scenario will be tornadoes, high winds, flash flooding, and snow in the colder, northern portion of the storm.

Notable Risk: The chance for any of these natural disaster scenarios to strike during this risk period is 20 percent, with a 10 percent risk that the event will have severe impacts.

December 15-28

Most Likely Scenario: One or Two Major Winter Storms, with a possible Tornado Outbreak could strike during this time. This event, or events, could be a result of a very powerful winter-type storm system, which may spark strong thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind, floods, hail and even tornadoes in warmer parts of middle-latitude areas of the northern hemisphere, like the South-central U.S., Southern Europe, South-Central Asia. Some severe weather in parts of the southern hemisphere is also a likelihood. This time frame is primed for wild, severe weather that could make the news during what may be a busier 2nd half of December. The main weather concerns to watch out for during this potential Severe Weather scenario will be blizzards, powerful tornadoes, high winds, flash flooding.

2nd Likely Scenario: A Major Flooding Event or Disaster could happen during this time frame as well, most likely caused by the storm system predicted in Scenario 1, or caused by possible tropical storm activity (scenario 4). This long period is set up well for a potential river flood or other long-lasting flooding event.

3rd Likely Scenario: A Powerful Earthquake could occur during this period as well, especially during December 15-16, and especially December 22-28...possibly attaining Magnitude 7.5 - 8.5 and causing severe impacts. The earthquake scenario is particularly important to mention for this period, because the days around Dec 25 have been very eventful dates in past Years of the Monkey in the Chinese Zodiac (Dec 23-28 have historically been bad earthquake dates in prior Monkey years, such as 2004, 1932 & 1908). History tells this is a major earthquake risk period in 2016. Watch for a possible medium to large sized Tsunami if the epicenter is at sea or near the coast. We'll all need to keep close watch on the world's major earthquake zones, and also areas recently seeing earthquake activity, during this time! November's heightened earthquake activity may have a follow-up event in Mid-Late December.

4th Possible Scenario: Major Cyclone/Typhoon could cause trouble in the Eastern Hemisphere tropics once again during this time, with a higher chance it is either an Australian Cyclone or a Strong Typhoon. The La Nina global weather pattern we are entering as we near 2017 could lead to more activity than usual near Australia, and their storm season could ramp up this December before peaking in January-March.

High Risk: The chance for any of these natural disaster scenarios to strike during this strong risk period is 35 percent, with a 25 percent risk that the event will have severe impacts.

December 31

Most Likely Scenario: A Strong Earthquake could occur during this lone risk date, possibly attaining Magnitude 6.5 - 7.0 and causing moderate impacts. Watch the world's major earthquake zones and areas recently seeing earthquake activity closely, just in case.

2nd Possible Scenario: A Tornado Event could occur on this day, possibly triggered by a strong cold front in the Southern US or in Southern Europe. Severe weather could accompany a strong winter storm to the south.

3rd Possible Scenario: A Flash Flooding Event or Landslide could happen during this time frame as well, most likely caused by the weather event in Scenario 2. This date by itself is fair game for a sudden event, and landslides/mudslides could be an issue on this date. However, the date is not as risky as the days before, so hopefully things go well and quietly as the year ends.

Moderate Risk: The chance for any of these natural disaster scenarios to strike during this date is 15 percent.

Floods and/or Landslides: December 7, December 10-11, December 15-28, December 31.

Main Areas to Watch: (1st place) India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Philippines, China, Italy. (2nd place) Arab Peninsula, Mediterranean region, Japan, Western Europe, Central America, Australia, Northeastern South America. (3rd place) Central & Southern US, Eastern Canada, Caribbean Islands, Pacific Northwest US & Canada, Brazil.

Earthquakes: December 7, December 10-11, December 15-16, December 22-28, December 31.

*Special Note*: *Earthquake magnitudes are likely to be above M 6.5 on the more earthquake-favoring dates in red and orange, with possibly significant impacts occurring if earthquakes indeed become the manifested events this month. all dates mentioned here under 'earthquakes' have the potential for seeing Magnitude 6.0+ quakes, which could all result in some sort of impact. Watch out for a possible tsunami in case one of the quakes surpasses M 7.0 and has the epicenter at sea.

Main Areas to Watch: (1st place) New Zealand, Mediterranean region/ Italy, Japan, Indonesia. (2nd place) Pacific Central & South America coasts, Himalayan region, China & Other parts of Southeast Asia. (3rd place) Western Pacific coast of North America, Philippines, East Africa, Middle East, and other world areas recently experiencing EQ activity.

Severe Weather & Tornadoes: December 7, December 10-11, December 15-28, December 31.

Main Areas to Watch: (1st place) Central & Southeast US, including Gulf Coast. (2nd place) Western Europe, Northeast Australia, Midwestern & Eastern US. (3rd place) Western US, Brazil Northeast South America, South-Central Asia region, Japan, Mediterranean & Middle East.

*The Month's Most Intense Risk Days are: December 24-26 in first place, seconded by December 15 & December 22-23 for 2nd place. Third place is held by December 7, December 10, December 16, December 18-19 & December 27.*

The Month at a Glance:

December 2016 could still be a fairly eventful month around the world, yet chances are that it will seem quiet compared to the active November that just passed. The world was fortunate in that relatively few lives were lost in November's natural disasters, despite the damages. Hopefully that same luck will continue in December, and any events that do occur will strike remote regions with no populations. Overall, Expect a near-normal month for natural disasters in terms of the expected amount and severity, with 1 to 2 notable natural disasters possible this month. One event may be weather related and the other an Earthquake or similar land-based event such as landslide. There is a strong probability that the earthquake event could become the main centerpiece of this month's events and it could be severe, so this would make it or break it in a way, possibly making the month seem more eventful due to the magnitude of the event should it happen. On the contrary, there is also some chance that nothing significant occurs anywhere in the world this month.

Update:
There was a 6.5 earthquake in Sumatra on 12/7/16...mere hours from the time of this thread's start. Unfortunately, the earthquake (which struck the Aceh province, the same one that got struck in Dec 2004 by the 9.1 ironically) has killed nearly 100 people and destroyed about 200 buildings. I sincerely hope this is the last of December's possible earthquake dangers, but now must warn more than ever that a repeat of 2004 is a real possibility...a repeat in the sense that we could see a Major Earthquake and Tsunami around 12/26, mainly the dates spanning 12/23-12/28. Sumatra is now among the greatest risk areas for this month.
