A tsunami warning has been issued after a powerful earthquake hit southern Chile.

According to US Geological Survey (USGS) preliminary data, a 7.6-magnitude eathquake hit southern regions of Chile at 14:22 UTC on Sunday. Earlier, the USGS reported that the magnitude of the quake is 7.7.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for areas within 1,000 kilometers of the epicenter of the earthquake.

The quake struck near the coast of Los Lagos, 40 kilometers southwest of Puerto Quellon in Chile, its depth is some 33 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of any damage or injuries as a result of the quake. Earlier in the day, a 5.4-magnitude quake struck northern Chile near the border with Bolivia.

9 hours earlier, 'hearing' or feeling rocking and rolling in mid Colorado .. got the cats all upset too .. the 'effect' was coming from the sky .. not from the earth .. assuming the trigger then was charged electrical/magnetic .. It is strongly conjectured solar activity will trigger volcanic activity and earthquakes ..

Quote THE SOLAR WIND CONTINUES TO BLOW: For the fourth day in a row, Earth is inside a stream of solar wind blowing out of a large hole in the sun's atmosphere. This is causing magnetic unrest and bright auroras around the poles. Wind speeds are expected to exceed 600 km/s for at least one more day..
    Note 14:22 UTC on Sunday:

At the event time, the coupling from the sun to earth's magnetosphere polarity shifts - which such activity then, considering field dynamics that is... polarity shifts induce strong electrical fields.. the resultant current could induce heating and slippage of faults under stress.

Quote When the north-south direction (Bz) of the the interplanetary magnetic field is orientated southward, it will connect with Earth's magnetosphere which points northward.

Think of the ordinary bar magnets that you have at home.

The opposite poles attract each other!

With a southward Bz, solar wind particles have a much easier time entering our magnetosphere.

From there they are guided into our atmosphere by Earth's magnetic field lines where they collide with the oxygen and nitrogen atoms that make up our atmosphere, which in turn causes them to glow and emit light.

For a geomagnetic storm to develop it is vital that the direction of the interplanetary magnetic field (Bz) turns southward.
