I just found out there has been a prison uprising down in Georgia, albeit a peaceful one. Can't help but wonder, why hasn't it hit the mainstream media? This is a mater of dealing with privately owned and operated prisons, with our government paying so much per year to the corporation to house each prisoner. That could be a sweet deal. Inside the prison, the prisoners work 7 days a week w/o pay. All the prisoners have asked for in their peaceful demonstration is a bit of pay plus, access to education and counceling. I was under the impression the main prison populous had access to all of the afore mentioned demands.
Privatizing prisons has always seemed wrong to me. It seems like a form of slavery, opening the door to incarceration for profit. For someone who has committed a crime and therefore, has lost all rights, all credibility, and has no voice to complain, it could be a horror story.
