I hope some (if not all) of the "NOT the answer" folks are able to take the 13 minutes to see what can come from honest examination of Trump in light of what they would have gotten otherwise... and I don't just mean Hillary... I mean if any other GOP nominee had gotten the nomination and won the presidency.
All the above is all and only my opinion - all subject to change and not meant to be true for anyone else regardless of how I phrase it.

Actually, it IS about the money. I'm firmly in the "Not the Answer" camp, and my thirteen minutes of honest examination about Trump have already been expended in the task of reading the article at the end of the link I have posted below. Conclusion? He's dirty.

This recent (longish, but necessarily so) piece in "New Republic" is extensive, deep, and brilliant. They have followed the money - and connected the dots. Upon finishing the article, I am firmly of the opinion that it's the criminal financial dealings with the Russian mob that will seal T's fate. If a team of investigative reporters can put something like this together, then Mueller's resources and legal clout will make Trump's takedown a slam dunk.

    https://newrepublic.com/article/1435...rime-syndicate

The Russian mob has moved its businesses into Trump Tower. Literally under Trump's office, if not his nose.

From the article, which includes this caveat at the outset that its findings are only circumstantial:

The very nature of Trump’s businesses—all of which are privately held, with few reporting requirements—makes it difficult to root out the truth about his financial deals. And the world of Russian oligarchs and organized crime, by design, is shadowy and labyrinthine. For the past three decades, state and federal investigators, as well as some of America’s best investigative journalists, have sifted through mountains of real estate records, tax filings, civil lawsuits, criminal cases, and FBI and Interpol reports, unearthing ties between Trump and Russian mobsters like Mogilevich. To date, no one has documented that Trump was even aware of any suspicious entanglements in his far-flung businesses, let alone that he was directly compromised by the Russian mafia or the corrupt oligarchs who are closely allied with the Kremlin. So far, when it comes to Trump’s ties to Russia, there is no smoking gun.

However, it then goes on to detail the history and circumstances of Trump's dealings with the Russian mafia. There is far more to the story than I could comfortably cut and paste for the purposes of this forum. I recommend that everyone invest some time in reading it. By the end of the piece, those who use a "follow the money" approach to getting at the truth will be well satisfied that the circumstances are damning for the President:

But even without an investigation by Congress or a special prosecutor, there is much we already know about the president’s debt to Russia. A review of the public record reveals a clear and disturbing pattern: Trump owes much of his business success, and by extension his presidency, to a flow of highly suspicious money from Russia. Over the past three decades, at least 13 people with known or alleged links to Russian mobsters or oligarchs have owned, lived in, and even run criminal activities out of Trump Tower and other Trump properties. Many used his apartments and casinos to launder untold millions in dirty money. Some ran a worldwide high-stakes gambling ring out of Trump Tower—in a unit directly below one owned by Trump. Others provided Trump with lucrative branding deals that required no investment on his part. Taken together, the flow of money from Russia provided Trump with a crucial infusion of financing that helped rescue his empire from ruin, burnish his image, and launch his career in television and politics. “They saved his bacon,” says Kenneth McCallion, a former assistant U.S. attorney in the Reagan administration who investigated ties between organized crime and Trump’s developments in the 1980s.

It’s entirely possible that Trump was never more than a convenient patsy for Russian oligarchs and mobsters, with his casinos and condos providing easy pass-throughs for their illicit riches. At the very least, with his constant need for new infusions of cash and his well-documented troubles with creditors, Trump made an easy “mark” for anyone looking to launder money. But whatever his knowledge about the source of his wealth, the public record makes clear that Trump built his business empire in no small part with a lot of dirty money from a lot of dirty Russians—including the dirtiest and most feared of them all.

    In another section, later on:

Throughout the 1990s, untold millions from the former Soviet Union flowed into Trump’s luxury developments and Atlantic City casinos. But all the money wasn’t enough to save Trump from his own failings as a businessman. He owed $4 billion to more than 70 banks, with a mind-boggling $800 million of it personally guaranteed. He spent much of the decade mired in litigation, filing for multiple bankruptcies and scrambling to survive. For most developers, the situation would have spelled financial ruin. But fortunately for Trump, his own economic crisis coincided with one in Russia.

In 1998, Russia defaulted on $40 billion in debt, causing the ruble to plummet and Russian banks to close. The ensuing financial panic sent the country’s oligarchs and mobsters scrambling to find a safe place to put their money. That October, just two months after the Russian economy went into a tailspin, Trump broke ground on his biggest project yet. Rising to 72 stories in midtown Manhattan, Trump World Tower would be the tallest residential building on the planet. Construction got underway in 1999—just as Trump was preparing his first run for the presidency on the Reform Party ticket— and concluded in 2001. As Bloomberg Businessweek reported earlier this year, it wasn’t long before one-third of the units on the tower’s priciest floors had been snatched up—either by individual buyers from the former Soviet Union, or by limited liability companies connected to Russia. “We had big buyers from Russia and Ukraine and Kazakhstan,” sales agent Debra Stotts told Bloomberg.

    Later ...

Sapir also introduced Trump to Tevfik Arif, his partner in the Trump SoHo deal. On paper, at least, Arif was another heartwarming immigrant success story. He had graduated from the Moscow Institute of Trade and Economics and worked as a Soviet trade and commerce official for 17 years before moving to New York and founding Bayrock. Practically overnight, Arif became a wildly successful developer in Brooklyn. In 2002, after meeting Trump, he moved Bayrock’s offices to Trump Tower, where he and his staff of Russian émigrés set up shop on the twenty-fourth floor.

Trump worked closely with Bayrock on real estate ventures in Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. “Bayrock knew the investors,” he later testified. Arif “brought the people up from Moscow to meet with me.” He boasted about the deal he was getting: Arif was offering him a 20 to 25 percent cut on his overseas projects, he said, not to mention management fees. “It was almost like mass production of a car,” Trump testified.

But Bayrock and its deals quickly became mired in controversy. Forbes and other publications reported that the company was financed by a notoriously corrupt group of oligarchs known as The Trio. In 2010, Arif was arrested by Turkish prosecutors and charged with setting up a prostitution ring after he was found aboard a boat—chartered by one of The Trio—with nine young women, two of whom were 16 years old. The women reportedly refused to talk, and Arif was acquitted. According to a lawsuit filed that same year by two former Bayrock executives, Arif started the firm “backed by oligarchs and money they stole from the Russian people.” In addition, the suit alleges, Bayrock “was substantially and covertly mob-owned and operated.” The company’s real purpose, the executives claim, was to develop hugely expensive properties bearing the Trump brand—and then use the projects to launder money and evade taxes.

The lawsuit, which is ongoing, does not claim that Trump was complicit in the alleged scam. Bayrock dismissed the allegations as “legal conclusions to which no response is required.” But last year, after examining title deeds, bank records, and court documents, the Financial Times concluded that Trump SoHo had “multiple ties to an alleged international money-laundering network.” In one case, the paper reported, a former Kazakh energy minister is being sued in federal court for conspiring to “systematically loot hundreds of millions of dollars of public assets” and then purchasing three condos in Trump SoHo to launder his “ill-gotten funds.”
Felix Sater had a Trump business card long after his criminal past came to light.

And there is so much more to read.

The article is, as I noted, extensive and eye opening, even jaw-dropping, but very worthwhile reading for understanding at least some of the machinations of the mob and how it arranges its support for the Trump business empire. He's dirty.

Like I said, Mueller will have no problem piecing together a case of criminal involvement for all concerned.

Well, given Trump's open threat today to Mueller about even considering an investigation of the circumstances surrounding any Russian/Trump family financial ties, I'd say the odds just went up in favour of indictments for the kids & associates. Big time. Trump himself, of course, can't be indicted while he's still in office.

How one can think that threatening the F.B.I. will make them go away? Astounding. WTF Donald? What are you thinking?

As for myself, I'll not be placing any money down, but I will be expecting some fascinating entertainment with MiniTrump's testimony next week.

    Credit where credit is due:

Stopping the arms to "moderate" syrian rebels was absolutely the right move. Well done POTUS.

Seeking deescalation in Syria and peace and good terms with Russia, also the right move. Well Done Potus.

Allowing the afghan girls to come to the robot thing, well done POTUS.

I think you should applaud the man when he does good/well, and chastise when he does evil/poorly.

No he is not anti war or we would leave Aghan and Iraq. Full STOP. There is no win condition we just need to leave. That is anti war stance. Nobody is talking about our two occupations that have gone on for over a decade now. Dont tell me he is anti war until we get COMPLETELY out of those two countries.

Still selling weapons to ANYBODY, but especially The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. IF I were president, I would stop ALL military aid to ALL countries. I would stop all weapons sales to ANY Country. Full stop. That is anti war.

What about Yemen which he is helping the KINGDOM bomb the **** out of? So anti war. Just because he is doing good things in Syria(good being super relative) doesnt mean that he is anti war. Look at the totality of his foreign policy not just one theater.

If he was anti war, he would back off the aggressive posturing against North Korea. Do you realize why NK does what it does? They have been basically surrounded by enemies their whole existence with america and SK doing battle exercises right on the other side of the border, on land and water, for the last several decades. Imagine if Canada and England constantly ran invasion and war prep drills to attack america, how would we respond? I dont like NK and I think there should be Unification of the koreas. But from a real politik point of view, NK is just doing what america would do in the same position, yet they are crazy?

What people fail to realize is Trump is the deep state at the next level. We have been metaed. Is the left or MSM talking about any of the things I mentioned? Are they discussing POTUS policy and actual government changes? Or just constantly Russia this or Russia that? Now it is the left calling for war and what not. That is exactly what was supposed to happen.

Are we addressing a massively inflated military and intelligence budget? Are we addressing the two Occupations? Are addressing holding people in Guantanamo Bay unconstitutionally? Are we addressing the fact that we crushed Libya? Are we addressing the inherent problems of the Federal Reserve System? Are we addressing the loss of Privacy via NSA and the Intelligence Community? Is POTUS decreasing or increasing the national security state? What happened to the outrage about Snowden revelations? Are we addressing the fact that we have more prisoners than anyone else? Are we addressing the fact that WE KNOW major financial institutions launder billions in drug money to this day? IS he pushing the release of alt energy? Is he pushing for disclosure?

It is not the areas he does well or the left is harping on, it is all the areas BOTH the MSM and POTUS are NOT talking about/working on.

We have been metaed. The presidency is now a reality TV show, and we are all buying into it.

Am in the 'not the answer' camp on the grounds that one man cannot make a difference on his own.

However we have a tough bloody minded individual, and a presidential system that gives a lot of power to that one human- semi royal - as inspired by France. Could that be enough to perform the Herculanean task (the one with the Augean stables)? Parhaps, I dearly hope to be wrong-and clean up succeed.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand done ...

Special counsel Robert Mueller is expanding his investigation into the Trump campaign’s possible Russia ties, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, and is now looking into the business transactions of the president and his associates.

According to the report, Mueller’s probe includes apartment sales to Russians at Trump properties, a development deal with Russian associates, the Miss Universe pageant President Donald Trump held in Moscow in 2013 and the 2008 sale of a mansion in Florida to a Russian oligarch.

Investigators have reportedly subpoenaed bank records as part of the probe.

The report comes a day after Trump warned Mueller not to look into his personal finances.

“If Mueller was looking at your finances and your family finances, unrelated to Russia — is that a red line?” New York Times reporter Michael Schmidt asked Trump on Wednesday.

“I would say yeah,” Trump replied. “I would say yes.”

Trump added later in the interview that if Mueller expanded his probe into Trump’s finances that it would be a “violation.”

“Look, this is about Russia,” Trump said. “So I think if he wants to go, my finances are extremely good.”

When pressed by New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman on whether he would fire Mueller “if he went outside of certain parameters,” Trump demurred.

“I can’t answer that question because I don’t think it’s going to happen,” the president responded.

Well. 24 hours was all it took. Nice work there Mr. Smartypants.

To me, the greater issue is not financial malfeasance and conflict of interest violations with regards Russia but the continuity of the warfare programs and an expansion of the military under Trump. Syria is but one country where Russia and the U.S SEEM to be on the same page.

However, there is a tie in here between Trump and Russia and what is happening in the Middle East, perhaps. Some key Russian oligarchs, nominally Jewish, hold dual Russian Israeli citizenship. They were massively enriched by selling off Russia's assets under Yeltsin. Everything was up for sale and cheap. Oil contracts, armaments, etc...They are neither what you would call fully Russian, nor fully Israeli. They are gangsters who have formed very strong alliances with Netanyahoo.

Am not sure about Putin, but think he is rather antagonistic towards them, considering Podborsky's incarceration and Putin's real, honest to God patriotism.

Anyway...it looks to me like the oligarchs, working through Netanyahoo AND Saudi Arabia want to kneecap Iran. They just might try it...and if they do... make darned sure you are holding as few American dollars as possible.

So the whole affection for 'Russia,' by the Trump administration is not what it seems. Watch Netanyahoo and Israel to get a real feel for what foreign policy actually is.

Thanks Anandacate for the vid. Since the peer pressure amongst celebs to hate trump is intense it's interesting to see one of them break free, actually think and have the courage to go against the hive.

I just laugh now at trump haters.
There's no slander, ill-will or spin too low for them, no delusion too ridiculous for them to chase. Meanwhile the world goes on, with or without the small, angry, vicious folk that didn't get their way.

"vicious folk that didn't get their way." Seriously? You're still on the "attack" with that dried up old canard? Things have moved far beyond the point where anyone can blame criticisms of Trump on poor losers. Way beyond. Trump's now trying to find ways of pardoning himself for crimes. He's not blaming Democrats anymore for the vote fiasco. He's investigating the FBI for Democratic sympathizers to try to torpedo the legal process that is consuming his presidency and, I predict, will ultimately scupper it.

Laugh if you can, but please read the piece in New Republic. Trump is going down, not because of small, angry vicious folk but because of small, angry vicious and greedy folk that he has surrounded himself with; people who agree to taking part in criminal activities if it profits them and they think they can get away with it. Those who are doing the taking down are doing their constitutional duty.

The "slander, ill will and spin" experts of the Trump team and supporters will not get him out of this mess he has created for himself. The more he struggles in this quicksand swamp, the faster he will sink.

    He's dirty.

So don't laugh. Just wake up.

Trump is Mr. Clean compared to Killery and the rest.

Fine. Have Mueller put Killery on notice that she's next. But he's got a pretty full plate for the next year or so.

They are going to restart civil forfeiture without a conviction again. That means, POTUS and his Dept. of Justice are going to TAKE private property from its citizens without even convicting them of a crime. Is this something that the government should be doing?

If you really care about stopping drug trafficking then they would look at the CIA and the major financial institutions we know are laundering drug money. The report on correspondent banking clearly states this in 2001. This is a government produced document. https://www.imolin.org/pdf/imolin/CPRT-107SPRT69919.pdf

I can not stress enough how important it is to read that document and understand what it is saying and the implications of what they are saying. The drug war is clearly a sham and this administration is ramping it up?

    Do you support this?

Why will nobody address policy issues I raise, about Obama too. Think about what Guantanamo bay being opens means about US as Americans? What does it say to the world that we abduct people and hold them without trial for decades

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._Bay_detainees

Really go to that list and look at the notes of some of them. Do some of them deserve to be confined for crimes? Maybe, I would be willing to examine the evidence of it and that is exactly the point. They should be too and we can do it in a thing called court WHICH if you recall correctly is kind of a thing in the United States, or at least it used to try and be anyway.

They all have the same problems and that is the point.

If you support them taking property from citizens who may have only been suspected of wrong doing then I think you really should go read the Declaration of Independence and Constitution again.

Being an American is not a birthright as some might believe. Yes you are born inside the border and you granted citizenship but that is merely it. Becoming American requires accepting as your personal constitution, code of conduct/ethics, the ideals that America is supposed to represent: Freedom, Justice, Liberty, Equality. It is the belief that all beings are endowed with inalienable rights and those rights have implications that come with them. These rights are merely recognized by governments and others not granted to them. The right of free speech, right to life, right to education, right of association, right of free religious expression, and that all interactions are voluntary.

If you believe in these things which are so eloquently spoken in the Declaration and Constitution, then you are American and not until before then. Are they perfect? No, but they are a great starting place, we just need to refocus our collective intent into a new path.

We can disagree about some specifics in how this all shakes out, especially the voluntary interactions part as it is where most problems arise, but I think it is imperative that we agree on the foundation I have just laid out to being American.

Then you have to ask yourself one question of all politicians: Are they American or merely citizens trying to use our great nation as a means to an end and not the preservation of the American way of life. There are actions are the confirmation of their words.

We should be the people upholding these ideals out in the open with overt positive actions instead of the national security states puppetting these ideas from the shadows with covert actions. POTUS overall has not changed the status quo of government policy, in some places making them worse as with this new case of civil forfeiture.

Look at POTUS actions and judge them. As I stated earlier, I think some actions POTUS is taking are actually the right ones, but his overall rating is still so far in the red it is not even funny.

Yeah, this is a little off topic, but still points to the twisted thinking of the Trump Admin. Specifically Jeff Sessions, who just yesterday reinstated the full prgram of civil forfeiture. It had been reined in by Obama. Now the police are able to get back to their illegal seizures & auctions of private citizens' property and auction it off for their own gain. Appalling. Just Google "civil forfeiture horror stories" to get plenty of examples of how some 'law enforcement' agencies are literally destroying the lives of innocent citizens.
