Gold! This has been a very weird week for news stories, one of them being the attention being given to gold, and in particular, the German gold repatriation, and Joseph is wondering about three high octane speculations...

I posted this on Tuesday, writing about the curious trip the Treasury Secretary going down to Ft. Knox to inspect the US gold holdings.

First time in 70 years, that a cabinet member took a look in the gold vault.
When in doubt, do the next right thing.

Mnuchin said that the "gold is safe" ... but he didn't say where it was safe. Those are the sorts of word games that raise my suspicions that Mnunchin was gaming us.

My best guess, on which I wouldn't bet a wooden nickel, is that Mnuchin was laying down the record for later claims that the gold is still there in Fort Knox, which suggests to me that whether or not the US has any gold left, and if so, how much, will become a bigger issue soon enough.

I remember Bob Dean saying that we had given a lot of our gold to the "others" who were helping us as they needed it for sustenance. Do we believe him?

Gov. Matt Bevin of Kentucky said on national news that the other vaults were sealed, there are many vault inside the depository quote: “It really is an absurd amount of it. I didn't see every bit of it but the amount that I saw--it's impressive. It's remarkable actually how much there is,” Bevin said. ....200 billion is the amount that's suppose to be there.

Just do a public audit, folks, and prove its all still there! And, while you're at it, how's about a public audit of the fed?
