    Episode 3 ......About a girl.

Transgender morals with twist , interesting episode with a serious current Earth
tone set on an over industrialised planet with a engineered male population. This is
the type of ethical show that cropped up on Star Trek from time to time and they
did it pretty well over all.....43 mins does not seem long enough for these shows
any more imo , and they feel rushed setting up a scenario and completing it
neatly this could have easily been a two or three part issue with other threads
    intertwined.

Thank you Cider - didn't realise they were up to #3 until I saw your post. I've just seen it now... Loved it! IMO, best story so far, and worthy of any TREK episode. What a 'dilemna'! (or dilemma? - depending where you're from ). I think this series is really starting to find its feet and becoming more a comedic anthology. (And just 2-days before STAR TREK DISCOVERY's debut - can't wait!)

Episode #4 is a re-imagining of an original STAR TREK story, "For the World is Hollow & I Have Touched the Sky" (...and a few others...) - with a twist, of coz!

The Orville Episode 4 Review: If the Stars Should Appear
The Orville runs into a massive "eco-ship" (an entire city within a spaceship) adrift in space, and the story, although familiar in some ways, unfolds impressively. The "residents" - with the exception of a few "dissidents" - have no idea they are inside a gigantic space-ship which is on a collision course with a star. (full review at link)

I'm finding it a little bland actually. (but production wise it's great)

If Seth could just up the humour with more slapstick, off the wall and in your face stuff, while still retaining his altruistic approach on covering relatable current issues, it would be perfect!

As is, I still haven't abandoned it, but every episode leaves me longing for a little more of that humour that Seth is generally known for ...

I've abandoned it, same reasons.. Episode 1 to me was a ludicrous waste of airtime (as were the others).. I suppose don't get me started on the current "Trek" revival series either.. same watching paint dry in my awfully humble opinion... I'll go listen to some music instead..

Just watched episode 4 of the Orville and it is what it is , enjoyable throw away scy fy
a bit like Kill Joys and other second tier shows which are fun, though it is still introducing
the universe . After watching heavy weights like G O Thrones and the Expanse both
based off good novel series with continuing story lines and longer episodes the old
' Trekkie ' type shows feel nostalgic , but still enjoyable. I hope Discovery will have
more 'grit ' to it and compete with the many good shows available in all genres .

Episode 4 Orville had a good concept , but it was so rushed to fit into 41 mins imo

Most of the quips seemed lame in this episode especially the ref to 'Friends' in
the interrogation scene...." Don't hurt the monkey"...

For findingneo (...& other interested parties re streaming)

As an alternative to my earlier (and possibly "dodgy") streaming link, our local TVNZ On Demand might be an option. (However,... as I'm in NZ, I don't know if it will work outside NZ!) It's free, legit & shouldn't mess with your computer. All you need is a login, password and a reasonably good internet connection. Best of all, it's completely up-to-date with The Orville, - Episode #5 about to screen in a few of hours (you can also watch the last 4 episodes as well, any time you want, but they usually expire after a few weeks...). Due to the time difference, Friday here is Thursday in the US - works out to be about the same Good luck!

I wouldn't even try to compare the two (Orville vs Discovery) - I'm loving them both. The Krill are an interesting arc for future stories and it looks like their captive Krill female teacher will be a character to watch out for.

Big thank you to Cider for keeping up with the reviews of each episode on both threads - much appreciated

Worst away team ever , another old trope of the Star Trek world do not
contaminate a alien culture which always goes wrong, a filler episode and not one
of the better ones unfortunately....Grinding a statue in public when you just
arrive on a sensitive mission to find missing personnel was totally unprofessional
and stupid. He should be reprimanded when he gets back to the ship , even if
it is supposed to be a comedy , it has to make sense in the context of the situation.

The culture was an interesting concept reflecting social inter action which runs
everything in the city they landed in.

I found it too much a direct copy in concept of "Black Mirror" SE03 EP01, with the Black Mirror bringing a superior story. Had I not watched that though, I might have enjoyed this episode more.

Thanks for the heads up I watched all the shows you suggested over the last few weeks.

I enjoyed the 100 and the Expanse and would have missed if not for your suggestions to watch them.

I don't actually mind the New Star Trek although I need to "suspend my disbelief" regarding their "spore drive". I find the Orville to be amusing and about as serious as the Original Star Trek which seems a bit inane these days, but then again it never took itself too seriously. The Orville seems like it needs to find its' stride and will eventually be great fun. Something seems just a bit off about it, but it still fun to watch.

I'm, just happy that Space themed shows are back on the air. We went through a dry spell for quite a while.

The Orville ep. 8 this was straight out of TNG character building
filler episode type of show. The family break was believable until
they got on the shuttle and parental control was nil. It gave an
opportunity for Isaac to observe another aspect of human behaviour.
The story line was predictable and the rescue was the usual pattern
for this type of episode , it was ok but not one of the better ones imo....

There were a few light hearted moments and the Doctor was believable
as the desperate mother even though her parenting skills needs
reviewing which was part of the running gag as observed by Isaac...

''Isaac to chief Newton''...This was a fun episode and in a way one of the best so
far , it was a amusing romp explaining how the commander committed adultery
from episode 1. This had the feel of several SNG plot lines rolled into one with a
    cupid ending.
