Default Movie: Kill Switch (2017)... clean energy gone wrong

A pilot battles to save his family and the planet after an experiment for unlimited energy goes wrong.

If you have an irrational hatred of anything in first person, don't watch this.

That aside, it's a perfectly solid sci-fi action movie. The core concept is clever, though at it's heart it's just a flashy action movie. Don't expect this to be a thought-provoker like The Arrival, but it's not down there in the complete brain dead zone like a Michael Bay movie either. It's somewhere in between, with a decent plot, above average special effects, and the always enjoyable, though perhaps a little underutilized, Dan Stevens.

"Your planet is forbidden for an open visit - extremely aggressive social environment, despite almost perfect climatic conditions.Almost 4 billion violent deaths for the last 5000 years and about 15000 major military conflicts in the same period."

My take on the movie was, be leary of corporate greed, corruption, deceit, and power.

It seemed to me that it wasn't about 'clean' or free energy, or even corporate greed.

It's about the huge unknown danger of messing with parallel universes... which can effect our own, and vice versa.

    Off-topic but interesting note:

It's also a tiny bit like a very, very simple version of Primer (2004), which many have said is the best time travel movie ever made. One critic said they totally loved it, had seen it eight times, and STILL didn't understand all the complex paradoxes.

It was directed by Shane Carruth, who also wrote it, produced it, filmed it, edited it, scored it, and starred in it. Not just that, but it only cost him something like $10,000. It earned millions at the box office.

And it is the best time travel movie ever made. (And no, I didn't understand it, either. )

New thread about PRIMER here: (all discussion about that there, please!)

Arrival was corny and senseless to me. It took so long to get to the point for the communication, that I will never watch that again. Sheesh, they gotta do better. What's the matter the pedophiles too busy schtupping children, to produce decent movies?

I liked Arrival, just barely, but I liked it, probably because I've been caught up watching Amy Adams lately... and I think it was the hidden existential aspect they were trying to capture, played out in her relationship with Renner... but it will be awhile before I watch it again... but I am sure I will watch it again sometime... whereas Bladerunner I watched 30-40 times... (during my 'disenchanted' youth, studying psych at the time...) Looking forward to Primer ; )

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time
By faith we understand things which are seen were not made of the things which are visible
