Default France backs down, delays tax increases after Paris riots

The "Yellow Jacket" protests have evolved into an anti-Macron uprising, with many criticizing the president for pursuing policies they say favor the rich.

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced a suspension of hikes to fuel taxes in an effort to appease a protest movement that plunged Paris into chaos last weekend.

Philippe said the planned increases, which have provoked violent riots and were set to be introduced in January, will be suspended for six months.

Philippe said "no tax is worth putting the nation's unity in danger."

He added: "This anger, you'd have to be deaf or blind not to see it or hear it."

More than 100 people were injured in the French capital and 412 arrested over the weekend during France's worst urban riot in years, with dozens of cars torched.

The "Yellow Jacket" movement behind the demonstrations started on Nov. 17 as a social-media-organized protest group named for the high-visibility jackets all motorists in France must have in their cars.

It has focused on denouncing a squeeze on household spending brought about by President Emmanuel Macrons taxes on gas and diesel. The president says the increases are needed to combat climate change.

However, over the past three weeks the protests have evolved into a wider anti-Macron uprising, with many criticizing the president for pursuing policies they say favor the rich and do nothing to help the working poor.

Do we have anybody in Paris that can expand on this, a local's take on the matter?

We all need to take a lesson from the French.. Their riots/protests make changes happen. Every time I look at a photo of Macron, I can't help but wonder at the way he resembles Napoleon.

    Six months delay, huh . . .

That should be time enough for the dirty tricks department to come up with a crafty false flag event to tip things back.

To all French residents, I say "see something, say something". "The crooks in charge take no for an answer" doesn't sound like the planet I live on. Well, not while they are still perfectly free to operate.

Punitive measures leveled on a population that has done nothing wrong will never work. It does not take rocket science to figure this out. If the Paris climate agreement was about education, research and advancing clean technology the world would get behind it. Instead, it is about the distribution of money and redistribution of money. What is happening in Paris is about a "Carbon Tax" similar to a Carbon Credit or Carbon Emission Trading which hurts those that can't buy their way to a clean conscience for polluting.

Whatever Hervé posts, it is mainly in english already. ..

For google translate, you just copy the text and put it in google translare and voilà! But, warning: most translations from google do not make sense. Better to find an English newspaper that talks on the given topic, such As British ones.

For google translate, just google it, you will find it -it is also in the plus window of google, at least from Quebec

If this was the UK the Government (HM Queen) would never bow to the pressure from the people - they would arrest the ring leaders and keep increasing police and military presence until the people give up

If this was Washington state, they would just redistribute the same amount of taxation in multiple obscure taxes that make no sense.

I just got off the phone from someone I trust, and is aware of the bigger picture in France. He made me see things a little different, rising the taxes increased fuel cost is a direct effect of the socialism that exists in the country , ... they want there cake and eat it to. They want there free stuff and not have to pay for it . I know this is not a popular position but it does show the conflict .... somebody has to pay for all the state sponsored programs. It will be hard to wean the citizens off the tit. Think about it, if your use to all the free stuff and then you are asked to pay for it I'd be mad too. That dependence is an addiction that is hard to break. Yes this was done to them by the PTB, it was a trick . There will be a lot of pain to break this cycle, there is blame on both sides,... wanting cradle to grave Security is highly desirable ... but it comes with a cost .... Lesson don't let Uncle Sam or any other Gov't become your tit .The weaning is tough.

Oh please, give me a break ramus. This is literally an American speech, without much help to the poor. Your friend is American without a doubt. Or he is in the elite and profits largely from it. In either case, He is not French and he sees the world through his American brain washing. Even while living in France he cannot get rid of his brain washing -this shows you how persistent it is

And your lesson, I would spell it differently: persist not helping the sick, the underdog of any kind and the children, this is America and they are proud of it
