I have here a thought written long before there was big pharma that expresses exactly this idea.
We laugh at the savage for his faith in the medicine-man; but how are the civilised less superstitious who have faith in doctors?
The savage finds that when a certain incantation is repeated, he often recovers from a certain disease; he believes. The civilised patient finds that when he doses himself according to a certain prescription, he often recovers from a certain disease; he believes. Where is the difference?
I found it quite revealing when I read recently that a certain mister Rockefeller in the very beginning of the last century started financing medical research; of course into the direction he liked and that the whole modern medicine as we know it today is very largely influenced by this given direction. Man how we have been played by these 'people', how much more of these things are we going to learn.
