Okay so that's a cliche, but imagine yourself in that situation - a horde of gold or silver won't keep you warm, or feed you when you're starving to death, or save you from starving wild animals who would consider you a nice meal.
Myplanet2 is on the right track. Invest in survival gear. You can always use it to go camping afterwards if the 'S' doesn't hit the fan.

Agreed, thats why I have just left the city and am collecting survival camping gear.
If you want to buy into something that will bring a solid return for your investment and put you on a path of real wealth;
Invest in your health.
Invest in your consciousness.
Sorry that might annoy professional executive types but I think that is good advice.
Your spirit is the only thing you can take with you and your health is the only thing you have of real value while you are still here.
For purely material investment along the lines of what you are actually asking Ready2BPeaceful. Real estate - buy some elevated land far away from the ocean and any major cities, plant fruit trees and vegetables with organic seeds (use Anastasia's method).
A 'Radiant Zone' safe place will be the most valuable thing.
