Peppers can also be perennialized quite easily by bringing them indoors (if you don't have a greenhouse...), letting the leaves drop and not watering them. You can keep them in the dark! Then bring them out, water them thoroughly and put them out during the day when there is no chance of frost in the spring.
Bring them back in overnight and you don't even need seeds.

We've a seed from a 'tree pepper' that gets 7' high, and produces peppers year round if you pollinate the flowers by hand. Once fully grown...it'll produce a few pounds a WEEK. They have denser flesh than most and live higher up in the Andes.
