A yahoo group was formed for the Texas Ground Crew, but it isn't being used much at present except swapping our individual research.

I'd thought that the ground crew effort was to organize an actual response plan in the event of one or more of several possible emergency scenarios:

1) Man or earth made weather catastrophe: best preparation; where to go if your area is hit; locate 'safe houses/sites', map out well equipped camping areas in alternative parts of the state

2) Disruption of food , water or medical supply lines: plan your own or how to provide alternative sources; work up naturally available food resource guides

3) Pandemic: what to do/where to go/how to keep underexposed/if exposed, how to respond; what are the available treatments/alternative treatments

4) Military: how to unobtrusively alert others/how to respond/where to go/what about your own gun's

5) Disruption of communications: telephone/radio/internet. How are a bunch of far flung folks going to connect? For what purpose are we going to connect?

A lot of this stuff has gotten covered on Avalon, and a lot of it on various other sites we probably all know about.

George Ure (urbansurvival.com/halfpasthuman.com) happens to live very close to me. When I searched out the local ham radio club, I saw where he was a member of that, also. Knowing what he knows, I figure he thought that was a real good idea. So do I. I pulled out my old CB (for me personally, it would be hard to cough up the bux for a ham radio worth buying) to see about getting it road worthy again. I also located an emergency band radio (battery operated). The solid state and CB radios I understand is are more immune to destruction than computers and cell phones should a solar flare zap us. Even walkie talkies will probably work, though they have very limited range. I've been researching 'repeater' antennas for them...
