If you want to know the history of the electric motor car then read Edwin Black's book Internal Combustion. He meticulously details how Ford and Edison were working on this a 100 years ago and how their work was thwarted (for instance Edison's lab was burnt to the ground). The next stage was the systematic destruction of all forms of electric tram public transport. Again he provides all the documentation to back this up. Anyone waiting for the big corporations to deliver this technology have missed the point that they (GM, Bridgestone, Exide, etc, etc) never wanted us to move away from oil-based internal combustion engines. I really urge anyone interested in this topic to read the book, well researched, informative, eye opening.
