The tests and the rewards..........
UK children in the 50's and early 60's did not have the quantity of sweets (candy) as latter generations, so a few sweets were a luxury to many, it was still an austere UK after the war even then. On the desk sat a plate with a few sweets, some small chocolate bars and others, these were the rewards for those whom concentrated and completed their tests in a satisfactory way. Each child wanted to pass their respective tests and be given a reward so each worked hard. Many failed and ended in tears as they were escorted out of the room, ready to try much harder next time.
