Default Vinegar 4 Thieves/potent anti viral/anti bacterial

During the plague, thieves used to rob dead people and no one knew why they did not get sick. The answer was extracted from them by force when captured. I have prepared this blend recently.

The "Thieves" mixture can also be made by steeping herbs in vinegar.

Here is one recipe, posted by herbalist Elizabeth Kastner on Chet Day's website.

Vinegar of Four Thieves
Use equal parts of the following herbs:
· lavender
· sage
· rosemary
· thyme
· melissa (lemon balm)
· hyssop
· peppermint
· and a handful of garlic cloves

Blend in a glass jar and cover completely with organic apple cider vinegar; cold infuse for six weeks; strain off herbs and garlic. Use as a topical spray to disinfect surfaces -- including skin -- and take as a tincture. All of these ingredients are either potent antibacterials or antivirals!

A good website for herbs and their uses is:

Hyssop, rosemary, oregano, melissa and peppermint grow very well in dry climates.

this is a great blend

I have used it internally, for strep throat, soar throat, and skin conditions.

I would like to add a few thoughts on the 4 Thieves vinegar. My Great Grandmother was an herbalist in the Appalachian Mountains and always had strange things in canning jars and drying in the rafters of her modest home.

The apple cider vinegar used to infuse should be raw and unfiltered. Granny always had a batch of vinegar “cooking” in a crock jar complete with the “mother”. This vinegar has all the beneficial bacteria that add to the potency and success of the recipe.

You can also use the essential oil of each of these herbs (2 or 3 drops each in a quart of vinegar), remember to shake before each use.

Also consider the following for a more potent internal concoction. Put equal amounts of the herbs in a jar and cover with no less than 80% alcohol. Remember if it says 100 proof on the bottle it is only 50% alcohol. Let this infuse or tincture no less than 6 weeks and strain. Take a few drops a day to keep from getting sick and 3 to 5 drops 3 or 4 times a day if you do become ill. Remember to take a break from all concoctions from time to time. No “medicine” is meant to be taken continually.

Happy Healing
